You can't do the stop slide with ABS enabled, but in theory you can do the power slide on any bike with enough lean angle.
Practice on dirt before going on pavement, it's easier to break traction on dirt and you can get comfortable doing the power slide where it's easier, pavement grips a lot more and if you're not comfortable or dont give enough power it can grip and send you flying worst case scenario.

Most cafe racers here aren't even street legal because these fuckwits screw with the frame, seat, handle, and whatnot and that warrants special inspections for which you NEED to prove that your bike won't just under go an unscheduled spontaneous deconstruction on the roads but especially the Autobahn.
You cannot do that with a one-of-one unless you're willing to shell out insane amounts of money because you fucked with a lot of things (at the same time).
I know what it is like to mod a motor vehicle in Germany, because I've modded my E36 and done everything the "correct" way. It is not cheap and the bureaucracy will fuck you up if you don't know what you're doing. Most people don't, so these morons
>Buy (rare) bikes
>FUBAR them
>Cannot get the TÜV to approve them
>Despair at the costs for proofs
>Put them up for the price of they paid for the bike
>PLUS the prices of their fuckass mods
>PLUS the labor they put into them
>Try to find a bag holder to not just cut, but recoup their losses
>Shit up sales portals this way
Again: Absolutely Disgusting.
If *I* did that, you bikkers would call me subhuman until the sun burnt out.

Anon, reliability after 30-40 years is going to be questionable at best. Just get a later model viffer or a cbr650r. A Vstrom 650 is also going to be equally reliable. Or, if you only want bimmers, any of the GSes are going to be equally reliable. There are way too many reliable bikes. But, I don't think there is another i4 on its side. Is there. Yeah bros, i also inquired about the shoomers can finally be habby timeline mr.harley davidson
He said there may be issues with the evo motor and that would be where to start- theyre not as reliable as everyone shills they are unless you got the modernizations of something like a S&S built motor, better oil pump and some cams etc. Just odds and ends for what to lookout for if i ever did chance upon owning it
So, good to know, but helps to know, and knowing is half the battle of shoomers finally being habby timeline involving a mr.harley davidson

Idk bros, i just really would like to enjoy the harley vtwin all american heritage experience at least once before i become a nobike forever again

But asides from that, new crf450rl tires are here, time to remove the whols this afternoon

I havent actually removed the front tire before for a wheel swap, only the rears, but they dont have chain sliders or alignments so is that an issue or is it one of those set it and forget it after torquing the nut?
I know thats a dumdum question, but remember who youre replying to
>>
>>28979516
>not as reliable as everyone shills
Well, compared to other HD engines, they are
>S&S built motor
Made in Korea, so at least as reliable as a Hyundai.
>Front wheel swapper
You can just torque it and be happy, that is perfectly OK. The super-lux treatment is finger-tighten the nuts and bolts (including front fender) then loosen the lower triple clamp pinch bolts, then take it off the stand and pump the suspention up and down a few times, then tighten everything to torque specs. This lets the front end put itself in alignment, you get improved fork action this way.
But again, it's optional but not much more work and makes for a comfy front end.

I think Palomar is the first time I’ve actually had a road that I’ve done a significant amount of reps on that I can almost remember it turn for turn and I’m getting a lot faster than I used to be on it which is weird.
It’s an extremely confidence negative road with a lot of corners that are very unpredictable and confusing but it makes really getting it down a lot of fun.
I have a fear of downhill riding because it feels like my rear is always gonna slip on me but riding here enough has really helped me regain that confidence and corner so much faster than I thought I could
The riders out here are super kind and helpful too, I got to shadow an ex-racer guy on my downhill run and it was nice being able to see different ways to approach the same corners. I had always been practically parking the bike for corners on the downhill but after watching him I’ve been focusing on dragging more brake through the corner but scrubbing less speed and it feels way better
Wish I could get a pic done by the other photographer up here to see my progress because I feel much faster and my tires definitely show it

I already crashed on Palomar once, safety takes precedent of course, I can’t afford another crash
> Also what you mean by dragging the brake in a corner??
Starting your braking off hard(er) and then as you tip in slowly letting off the brake but not entirely letting it go. It makes the suspension feel much more stable going through corners. Particularly this is great on downhill corners where not using it at all makes the bike feel unpredictable and wild
TL;DR revmatch your tendies on your drum brakes
>>
>>28979662

Yeah im losing the ability to do complex maneuvers like thst because of the tendon severance package on the throttle hand
Ive noticed im more jerky on my dual snort because of it, and id rsther not hamfist an assload of brake and yeet into doom

Sup, any OTHER ideas why Yamaha XJ6 inline four would start to violently vibrate on revs after 33K miles? Even while stationary on neutral. I ran out of money for the month buying & ordering wrenching stuff, so valve adjustment will have to wait till July. But I got the gauge for compression at least.

Done:
>air, oil filter & oil are good
>engine mounts tightened to spec
>injectors spray is even
>no vacuum leaks
>throttle bodies sync
>spark plugs are new, good gap, little residue
>caps & coils resistance on spec
>HT leads re-cut & clamped against cap boots
>no misfiring
>cam chain tensioner is still good (not on last tooth)
>cam position sensor resistance on spec
>intake air sensor resistance on spec
>exhaust headers bolts to spec
>muffler mounts rubber is good, bolts to spec
>peg subframes mount bolts to spec, rubber washers still good
>checked steering bearing (fluid, no play)
>checked radiator & fan mounts (on spec)

TO DO:
>open up right side alternator cover to see if anything came loose (magnets, bolts)
>measure cylinder compression
>swap injectors around just for the sake of it
>valve clearance

My wife has trained some smaller dogs and she's a dedicated dog person, she'll be home to work with him at least for the time being. He was scheduled for euthenasia in two hours anyway, so fuck it. Thanks anons! Did a lot of research leading up to the purchase. At least in my area it's pretty much impossible to find an F4i that wasn't completely clapped/stunted, so when I saw this one pop up I knew it was the one. First big/proper bike after years of running around on a Grom and scoot (also Honda), so definitely taking it slow and respecting the power. Also thinking of grabbing some frame sliders just in case since the plastics are so pristine.

(shitty photo since autofocus on my phone went out)

yeah especially coming from a Grom I noticed immediately how much more it was at the pump. 1/3 the mpg and 4x the tank capacity really gave me a reality check. Still much better than my cage tho.

Very pretty bike. Rare to see them that old and so clean. Barn find? Meticulous boomer?
>Frame sliders
A must have imo. I have them on most of my bikes. I haven't dropped a bike a yet but they really come in handy if you do. You just never know. Your foot could hit and gravel at a stoplight. Shoelace catches. Whatever.
I haven't dropped a bike at a standstill but I laid my zx6r over doing parking lot drills trying to drag knee. The frame slider bolt broke off and it scraped the fairing but the initial hit on the slider will still break the fall and lessen the damage if you go down at speed.
What kind mpg did that Grom get? My cbr250 gets about 60-70 but I hate that I don't have the power to accelerate out of bad situations with it.
>>
>>28979967
Oh yeah, forgot to note. On that f4i you may have to drill holes in the fairings for frame sliders. Sometimes you can get "no cut" sliders that have a relocation bracket, and sometimes even those require a little trimming.

2nd option. Got it from an older guy that aged out of sportbikes. Pristine California garaged bike (had to ship it to the PNW), new Michelin tires, sub 20k miles, could go on. Honestly the perfect F4i.

The Grom got well over 100mpg with the stock exhaust. I ended up adding an aftermarket exhaust and intake and did an ecu flash so that dropped it down a bit. Before gas went up in price I could fill it up once a week from literal pocket change. Few more bucks now but obviously still a dirt cheap fill up.

No front end feedback and accordingly inferior. If it was good racing teams would’ve adopted. I admire the autists at Bimota for sticking with it but it’s meme suspension
>>
>>28980125
>>28980091
Also, conventional telescopic forks do offer a level of rudimentary damping on the side of the tyre just due to the slight amount of flex in them. Apparently this also makes a difference in handling. The consensus just seems to be that they feel strange to ride and therefore ppl can’t go faster on them than on a traditional setup

It's a solid frame bike where the rear differential/final drive unit has suspension travel, the rear wheel moves up and down with the final drive instead of a rear fork.
Basically the shock absorbers are connected straight to the rear wheel axle.

when you are removing the plastic fairing on the right side of the bike
be super careful cause you will break the plastic hinges on it (i did)
my other suggestion is that
you might want to replace the kickstand or just always use center stand
because the OEM kickstand is too short and it will tip over at even slightest of recline, especially when you are carrying 2 case of beer on the back
some people suggest getting Forza 350's OEM kickstand or adjustable aftermarket one
but I havnt get around getting those yet so Im just sticking with using centerstand when in slope
also just finished install the new camshaft, air funnel, sprocket and fuel controller
now my cub reach 114 km/h topspeed, could probably get more with ECU Flash but I think this is enough for now
I might get new gold oring chains but will see
anyway what pipe did you get?

you can find 20-30 year old harleys that look and ride as good as new, but the new shit is trash so in essence the boomers are fighting the right fight, but in reality they dont actually care because their old boat still works just fine and they have 0 reason to get a new one

Love my harley.
Simple as
>>
>>28980234
moving production overseas was always meant to be a temporary move while redoing the plant in York.

>>28980274
The nighster is an affordable domestic bike. 10k sounds like a lot because we destroyed the money supply, but its the entry level for a full sized bike these days. Rebel 1100 is 10k, ZX-6R is 11.6k, MT-09 is 11k, down the line. The sportster costs 10 grand in 2020 too, which would be 13k today adjusted for inflation.
What they don't have is a truly BUDGET bike, and in the budget realm I don't think anyone cares about motorcycle origin. With appropriate styling and marketing, the sprint should do well.
What's become clear to me is that Harley's problem extends to their relationship with journalists and content creators. Harley makes stylistic choices, such as transmission feel, which are out of step with the modern journalist's preference, which is snickety smooth transmissions. In a Harley review, they lampoon the transmissions as agricultural. In a BMW retro review, where they make the same stylistic choice, they call it soulful.
Don't get me wrong, because cruisers aren't for me and I'm always going to be a HONDA man, just what I've noticed. If Honda made bikes here, I would never spare another thought to Harley. But since Harley makes bikes here and Honda doesn't, I think it's important to be fair to the company.

>>28980193
The REs and CFMotos are proof that budget bike buyers don't care about origin.
Harley made a mistake with Buell that they are not making with Livewire. They need to have more seperation between sub-brands so that they can market without diluting their main and most profitable brand. Imagine a Harley davidson that had kept their imported italian dirt bikes under one brand that was still an option (dirt bikes are a huge percent of all sold motorcycles), or that kept their four wheeled vehicles under another brand and now would sell you a SxS, or that really separated out Buell and now would sell you a sport bike.

I think they are just restarting the old Rev Max production line after using the Thailand factory as the testing ground. There is no point in removing an already running factory just to move it back to the US. they can now make US made Harleys to sell domestically (or maybe CVO versions) and keep the Ladyboy Harleys as cheap bikes to sell globally.
