You're thinking of full time 2WD which is stupid, you only send torque to the front when you're actually traction limited and Yamaha built exactly what >>28980828 was about and finished 7th at Dakar with a 450 back when you could still run big displacement enduros. Max 15% front power only when the back wheel is spinning faster than the front, there's current chain drive FWD systems with similar settings.

About plugs:
I had an old big single shitbike, no matter how fast/slow I go, no matter what earplugs I use, I get that EEEEEEEEE quite soon after riding it.
But on MT07 that I used before that I didn't get any audial fatigue even when I went on the highway without earplugs.
It's clear why an old loud thumper would damager my hearing, but why doesn't wind bother me when I'm riding MT07?

hypothetically speaking would a R1200R be a better "multi use roadster" than say a r9t?
i like that the r9t seems very small (at least in person) but i heard it's not exactly comfy and the suspensions are a bit basic, on the other hand the r1200r would be cheaper and have better components (and that comfy AF telelever on the gen that i like, 2014 model) but it "looks" quite bigger.
If i wanted something smaller that has a lot fo the same vibes would a new guzzi v7 be comparable? those seem about the same size of the r9t and while it's no boxer it's still a transvers V twin and still has shaft drive and the clunky gearbox.

i would say more "practical"?. so something i can commute on, have fun day rides and occasionally strap bags on it and go for a long summer vacation tour, a jack of all trades as long as you stay on paved roads but with that bit of character from the boxer to not make it souless like a normal middleweight two cylinder naked bike.

i was just wondering if there where any anon that had an r1200r or an r9t and wanted to give me their experience

Is cheaping out on track gear a bad idea?

Have my first track day at the beginning of July. I've been pricing out gear, and I honestly cannot force myself to spend $1k just on a race suit. A local dealer has the current gear and it seems like it'd be OK.
>Z1R Talon Helmet (DOT & ECE 22.06)
-$95
I need a new helmet because my main has stuck on camera mounts they said I have to remove and I don't want to take them off for one day at the track.
>Noru 1-piece race suit (CE Rated)
-$250
>Noru Tsua Boots (CE ankle protection)
-$50
Touring boots, but my riding sneakers won't work as anything with laces is a no go. Not the best for overall protection, but they also cover up to the lower shin and would be accepted by the track.
>RST Axiom (CE knuckle protection)
-$25
Covers up my wrist, so it will be accepted.

Any issues with any of this gear? They do offer gear rentals on suits and helmets, but it's $300, so I'm not saving that much. I tried it all on at my local dealer, even let me put it all on together, and it all fit fairly nicely. I could be otd with it all for under $500, and that's enticing.

Jesus, what sludge did you have building up in that thing? If you're changing your oil AFTER you notice a performance change, you're doing it too late.

Also, give it a flush when you're changing it. I do that with cheap motorcycle oil and the old filter by running it for 10 minutes and then draining that too. Might be pointless to do, but sometimes it kicks something up that you could miss in your first drain.

Every 3K miles with Synth-Blend (that's all they sell at walmart near me), flush with conventional and seafoam, all using cheap filters I bought in a multipack I bought off eBay. That's what I do and my Honda is running just as good as the day I bought her 51k+ miles later.
>>
>>28981329
>>28981518

>>
>>28981514
Dude, it's a 400lb, 471cc "scrambler." If you're being bothered by the wind and air that much, then a windshield isn't going to solve your problem. It will just act as a sail on something like that anyway. If you're riding so much at speeds that are making the bike uncomfortable, it may be time to get something bigger, heavier, and/or faster.
>>
>>28981521
I just wanna move the wind off my head when I'm going 80.
>>
>>28981514
Don't listen to that retard >>28981521 he didn't have to ride in cold and doesn't understand what stupid amount of layers you have to put on to protect your core versus just a good touring windshield and having now warm core pump blood through your limbs. To say nothing about cold wind getting under your chin curtain and freezing your face, and making shit noiser than it should be.
>>28981523
>off the head
That gotta be quite tall touring windshield then. I used to have them and I had no complaints other than at 100+ mph they might lift your front wheel in strong headwind.
>>
>>28981519
If it's not totally tar colored than it is probably ok. I just follow my rules because I'm paranoid, and I've drained oil that looks like it could go back into a bottle for more use. However, if you're noticing issues, even when the oil looks pretty clean, might be time to change oil brands too.

>>28981524
Fortunately this bike can't do 100 so I don't need to worry. I ride year round in ohio so anything to warm up the ride is a perk. I'm not that tall and I'm okay with a bit of wind on the head. I just wanna take some of it off. I really can't think of a reason not to put a windshield on this thing.
>>
>>28981509
Instead of Z1R or whatever, get a KYT or LS2, I'm sure you'll find a helmet in your budget. HJC probably doesn't make a lid that cheap. Rent your suit. Buy gloves and boots anon. Possibly gaerne boots and RS Taichi or Five gloves.
>>
>>28981523
>when I'm going 80.
If you're regularly going 80 on a SCL500, you bought the wrong bike. Not what the bike was made for, and not the bike for that job. Great little starter bike, but not one made for 80mph stints down the interstate regularly.
>I just wanna move the wind off my head
Then get a better, more aerodynamic helmet. Most windshields don't go up high enough to effect anything but your torso, which is very useful itself. As a taller rider, I need to have an aerodynamic helmet because any and all wind protection doesn't reach my noggin. A better helmet is the solution, outside of a bigger bike with a better riding position and airflow. I hope you're not one of the retards that bought the "retro-styled scrambler-ish" bike and got a 3/4th or retro styled full-face that all suck for actual riding because it matched the style you were looking for.
>>28981524
>he didn't have to ride in cold and doesn't understand
Dumbass, it's summer and he said nothing about "the cold." You also, just as I don't, know where he lives and if it even gets cold. Weird assumption you made, and one that was proven wrong in a post you also responded to, and then sort of agreed with when you said
>they might lift your front wheel in strong headwind.

Good. For cold weather I recommend putting modest handles protection (plastic one) and over them, waterproof warmers that would keep wind off. The warmers without plastic protection are not rigid enough and would dig into your fingers and block operating controls properly. A chin curtain that straps directly to the helmet were a life-changing find for cold weather riding. The ones that mount with adhesive velcro pads directly onto helmet shell, under the padding. E.g. The Original Quiet Rider Helmet Skirt on Ebay. Highly recommend getting dense windblocker west yachtsmen use or similar, that is if you use textile and not leather. If your arms are cold - you can carry warmer sleeves bicyclists use, and put them on as needed. I also use heated USB insoles in my boots that to powerbank which feeds from USB on my bike, though wires are a bitch to pass through the pants and out under the belt.

With windshield, hand warmers & helmet skirt you've got most of the stuff covered. I rode roads in +0°C using this setup.

>>28981540
>Dumbass
>>28981531
>warm up the ride
Dumbass.
> As a taller rider
He's not.

There's no reason not to put a touring windshield on a bike that's not a supersport. It not only cuts the cold, but a lot of the noise as well. In the end you end up with a ride that is quieter, allows you to dress lighter and reasonably protects your core from rain on the go.
>sort of agreed

3. Certainly nothing as retarded as "a sail" like you claimed

Another thing is that tall windshield protects your gear from giant-ass bug splatters in the summer. Especially if you wear something breathable like mesh. Downside is you need to wipe bugs off of it after every ride or they'll solidify like concrete on it. But that's just carrying wet car headlight tissues with you on a bike.

>>28981549
>Never thought of getting a chin curtain though.
Neither did I until I saw Glovo couriers sporting some. It completely prevents cold wind from getting under your helmet.

>1. Dude said he doesn't need to go that fast
He's going 80 on a sub-500cc, lightweight cruiser based bike. That's not fast to riders on most other bikes, but it is on what he's riding.
>2. It's nothing catastrophic
No, but it's not a solution to the problem either. It won't solve his problem, and on a light bike at highway speeds it could cause handling issues. Enough to cause him to crash? Probably not, but enough to make it uncomfortable and cause a new problem
>3. Certainly nothing as retarded as "a sail" like you claimed
Does a sail implicate it being catastrophic? Bags and boxes act as sails. It just means something that can catch the wind and affect handling.

Brother you said yourself he's riding a cruiser. Why do you think worrying about microne tolerances introduced by windshield in cornering is necessary on a cruiser? Yes it affects the handling. I rode 200km in rain once and I don't want to repeat it. In summer, it's fine as long as you DON'T TURN. Also albeit much more brief, I rode like 20m in a shower last year, and it warped my rear brake disk.
>>
>>28981778
I've been in some pretty bad rain before and I avoid it if I can help it. I'm not brave enough to ride aggressively or brake too hard in the rain. I think my longest ride in hard rain was maybe 10 miles.
>>
The weather says it's going to rain, but the sky is pretty clear so I'm taking the bike to work anyway. If I get wet, I get wet. Any day I can be on two wheels is good, the shitty winters make me crazy and I need to ride.
>>
Why are you posting cruisers? I thought it's gay.
>>
I like riding in the rain. I like the sound the rain makes when it hits your helmet. I like the way road spray looks in the mirror. I rarely ride aggressively so I have plenty of grip anyway. I like the way that people react when I show up having ridden in the rain “wow you really must like riding to ride in that!” I do like riding that much.
I like the way it smells when it’s raining out, and I like the way it smells just after it finishes raining.
I do NOT like that cagers aren’t expecting you and frequently try to merge into you in the rain, way worse than normal. I’ve been in one minor accident because of it.

That's the stator, part of the generator. A magnet inside, attached to the crank, spins in the center of it and makes electricity by passing its magnetic field over those, which stay stationary. This charges your battery or just keeps spark on the engine.

tldr fucking miracles

>>28981929
Despite cruisers being called that they are only good for cruising downtown for 20 minutes to get attention. Not to actually do comfortable touring, unless back pain is a definition of "comfy" nowadays.
>>
I don't respect anyone on a harley. I know they're just doing it to cultivate some boomer mindset of what TRUE MURICANS look like while riding something that costs as much as a small car without any of the luxury of even a low-range Japanese or European bike.
>>
>>28981933
It's the closest thing you're gonna get to a touring bike that's still okay to commute on.
>>
>>28981933
Cruisers are incredibly comfy, the problem is finding one that fits or adapting one to fit. I love my Shadow 1100 but it's a midsize cruiser made to fit manlet sized 5'6" humans like me, if I was any bigger a proper fitting cruiser would be a heavyweight instead of a middleweight. The problem with the Shadow 750 is having a middle weight chassis with a weak 750 instead of like the 1100 which is a proper middle weight cruiser with an almost heavyweight engine.
>>
>>28981924
>ninja 650
>2 cylinder
>sportsbike
?
Just cause it has fairings doesn't mean it's a sports bike.
It's a 2 cylinder with good gas mileage, it has an upright sitting position, and fairings to block a lot of the wind.
It's mainly a commuter but it wouldn't hurt to do a decent amount of miles on it. A true touring bike would be better yeah but it he didn't just ask for that.

kawasaki creates the classes, they let suzuki have the 750 class, they created the 250cc RR and 400cc RR class, they created the boosted 1000cc class. they dominate the 600cc class with a 636cc engine, they brought back the past with the W800. Kawasaki quietly rules the motorcycle industry.

Picture is unrelated, one of three military sidecars assembled by Harley Davidson (HYB) for WWII before war department decided that if you need to drive through mud they’d prefer four wheels. This was two wheel drive, the book makes it sound like it was a solid axel with no differential.

Don't get a good bike cover, just get a construction tarpaulin. Most people shouldn't guess that there is a biku underneath.

IMO, the first mod you do should be for ergos and comfort. If you feel pain in wrists, or ass, figure out if you can swap out for adjustable levers and adjust the angle of the levers. Better bars or bar risers for comfort. More comfortable seats or shorter seats if required. Wider foot pegs or bigger brake levers for your foot.

>>28982635
HYB

>>28982640
No actually you're confused about the timeline
Matt Levatich was CEO from 2015-2020, and he started the "more roads to Harley Davidson" initiative, which lead to Livewire and the development of the RevMax engine platform. The board was not happy with livewire, which still operates at a loss, so he was replaced with Jochen Zeitz. Zeitz came up with the "Hardwire" plan, which revolved around focusing even more on the "core" Harley Davidson products, the large touring bikes and the cultural output. This is where the "Icons" collection came from as well, which ran from 2021-2025. The Superglide is close to an icon model - special look, limited number - but it's not listed amongst them on their Icons page
Zeitz announced his retirement, officially, in 2024, but the rumors were that he was pushed out because dealers did not like the premium pricing push. And the numbers show dealers were squeezed. So you're one behind - flood the world with boomercruisers guy got fired for that move.
Artie Starr, the new CEO, has a plan to differentiate more within the lineup, he's got a plan for more models without adding much cost.

The position is somewhat difficult, isn't it? Motorcycle sales aren't just down for Harley, in the United States, they're down for everyone. From the peak 20 years ago motorcycle sales are down about 60% per capita, and they remain flat or slightly down every year as the population continues to grow. America is fundamentally becoming a different market. Since we don't structure our taxes and other laws in such a way to give motorcycles many genuine advantages over car ownership, and since people continue to grow in risk aversion, it's difficult to see that market turn around. It's possible that Harley, as a predominately American manufacturer, has no choice but to shrink, and to be managed as a more luxury brand.

Tigers are pretty cool. Go with GS if you want to tech maxx, literally all of them are very nice baiks. Go test ride and pick the one you like best.

They STILL made the XT250, nvm jk, they discontinued it two years ago

now they make an ACTUAL ugliest bike ever made that isn't even a 200, it's a 125.

>>28982912
>125
I thought that was a cool bike, in its own merit, not as a replacement to yz250.

>How much do I have to worry about hearing loss when riding?
decent helmet will cut down the noise level to acceptable leves so no hearing loss. If your bike is that loud get a muffler
>>
>>28981833
KLR650 and h2 mang. Both utterly iconic.
>>
Do any of your roadtards every change the oil in your suspension, or not even know there is oil involved?
>>
>>28982956
wind noise is usually loud enough to cause hearing damage
https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/advice/biking-tips/best-motorcycle-ear-plugs
maybe its minor damage, and maybe you dont really ride that often so you find the tradeoff for comfort acceptable, but especially if you do a couple hours on the highway, i would recommend ear plugs
its even truer if you have music playing in helmet, since if you have music playing, you naturally will want to hear it over the very loud wind noise. to get clear music in my helmet, i have to have it set to maximum volume if i'm over 70mph, which is downright painful without earplugs.

It would be fine if it were a 250 or god willing a 350.

Why we can't just get bikes that are the size of a bike someone would buy in this country instead of the third world's discarded trash is anyone's guess.

>>
>>28982922
It's a cool bike, but it's not the Serow. It's also not the Serow 225 which was the perfect low-range bike with six gears and 100% Made in Japan parts on Yamaha's own factory lines.

The yz125 is a frankenbike made out of every cheap factory Yamaha outsources to in the philippines and malaysia.
>>
>>28982560
For me
-GP shift (aka reverse shift) it just feels more intuitive to me so makes QOL better
-Nicer grips, they're comfier and look nice
-Aftermarket seat, 99% of oem seats are wood boards so swapping them is a buff
-adjust the suspension to me specfically, makes bumps and spirited riding better
-oberon slave clyinder to make the clutch even softer
Aside from that and tires I guess adjusting all the controls to me specfically is another thing but tires are kinda a no brainer mod.

The Super Cub was super price gouged, the CT has legs. It's reasonably priced for what is offered and they can barely keep them on showroom floors.

No I encourage wrenching on your own stuff, scooters simply aren't worth anyone's time in america. Maybe they make sense if you live in Croatia or one of those old European cities that hasn't been overrun by brown people yet, but in America if you can't do highway speed you aren't gonna make it.

Idk, the wrenchlet supremacist that i said had the inferiority complex to wrenchlets keep telling a guy off for wanting to fix his motor
Its pretty cring and gay, thinking that youre better than someone else and then add insult to injury asshole timeline by called them poor
So there i was, flipping him off with a gatto-glockko

I disagree with the method and the intent
If youre gonna hate scooters, its because theyre not bikes, fundamentally, within interlinked pills
