I don't ride, so I'm asking you all. If I really fucked up, let me have it and I'll do better in the future. So I was just mowing and it's been a while because of daily thunderstorms. Most of my yard is a flood plain too so that causes problems with mowing after heavy rains. That's my problem of course. But the grass was pretty tall and even with the deck at the highest it stalled out several times. So I didn't do my usual practice of blowing in away from the road for my first few passes. There was clear pavement, I didn't cover the lane with clippings. I also always stop when any traffic is passing to avoid kicking a stone or anything into the road. Anyway, a biker came past and definitely cussed me out. I couldn't hear what he actually said, but it was obvious he was very angry. He was riding in shorts, a Tshirt, tennis shoes, and no helmet. So he clearly isn't big on safety to begin with. But that doesn't excuse me if I created a serious hazard.

should I buy F800GSA?
I tried asking in the last thread but I'm 6'1 buying my first bike. I found a hornet 500 with a good price but I'm worried it would be too small for me. Should I spend a bit more and get the NX500 or a v-strom 650xt instead? Tall anons, have you ever had a hornet 500?

It's true that the big touring bikes push 35k very quickly, but Harleys writ large are not extremely expensive. They're more expensive than the low end Japanese, Indian, and Chinese made bikes, but they're solidly middle priced these days across most of the range. Hondas (Rebel 1100 is 10k, Africa twin 15k, Gold Wing 30k), Kawasakis (ZX-6R 12k, Versys 1100 20k, Ninja H2 35k), Suzukis, Yamahas, Triumphs, KTMs, BMWs, excuse me for not providing examples for each one, all of their mid range and above models run similar prices. >>29022288I feel exactly the same way, I've taken the big faired touring bikes on test rides and it's just not for me. >>29022471The engine. Also the electrics.Didn't like the transmission either. The engine was just shit, it was awkward to work around with, had a lot of dumb bullshit going on, not that much documentation online, specialty tools here and there and to top it all of, everything costs an arm and a leg on it if you can find the parts, a lot being NLA.I went through 2 cams and did the chain plus guides during one year of ownership. New alternator, pistons and bearings too. Sunk about 2 and a half grand into it and figured that I don't like the bike at all.It was also kinda awkward to ride due to the transmission, it's a big fat cruiser so you'd expect to ride it out with low revs and let the torque handle it, but the engine wants you to gun it like you stole it, making it a very awkward experience to ride.I'd unironically pick an Ural over it, the only advantage the gucci had was its top speed, it could actually reach and maintain highway speeds.
>>29022487Oh yeah and the oil filter is inside the god damn oilpan.Yeah sure they make aftermarket oilpans with the filter on the outside, but come the fuck on.Even Urals once they got oil filters had it easily replaced as it's a cartridge under a big cap

Now I have a cushy work from home job that I do maybe for like 2 hours a day if that while doing all my passions and hobbies and having lots of extra money. Age is irrelevant to living life to the fullest. As long as you're not unhealthy you'd need to be like in your 60s for shit to be an issue for enjoying life at all. If anything our generation is going to be the first to truly enjoy our lives without the crushing weight of work now that remote work exists. I'm not sure if it's that I the person am so disgusting or that what I'm riding manages to be worse. i have probably become a known road hazard in the neighborhood either way. Even at my local bar, the one thing people say I'm foul for is my bike; I'm not even allowed to talk about it in any of the bartenders' presence. People are there to abandon their problems, not take on anyone else's. Especially so when it's stuff that no one should be doing anyway.I will continue to ride regardless. It's fun and I like it, and I take its lack of reliability as a personal insult I made myself against myself. The closer it gets to being reliable, the more maintainable it becomes, the more I am able to maintain it and make it reliable, better I am as a person.

Would you say you'd judge the bike differently in that context or is it shit on the riding experience alone already?
>>29023073I ride an Ural, breakdowns and it being a piece of shit is not an issue to me.The riding experience while awkward wasn't a deal breaker either, the biggest issue was that I just didn't like it on a personal basis.Once I started thinking about putting an Ural engine and transmission into it, I figured it was time for it to go.Also Urals have oul slinger plates on the crankshaft that act as oil filters, ecen nowadays.I meant once they got external filter cartridges on top of that

>>29023073>any decent dealership will give you 12 months warranty on used purchases. ohoh you have no fucking clue how bad it is in the US.the powersports dealer near me won't give 12 months warranty on new purchases. UNLESS, you pay up for the "extended warranty" (which makes it a 24 months warranty, and it's not through the dealer, but through the manufacturer, so they wash their hands with it the second it rolls off their showroom floor)You have no idea how exploitative this third world country known as Burgertown can be.
>>29023119>>29023073This is also why you're going to see a lot of posts about "wrench culture" and "wrenching" in this primarily American threads. If you don't know how to wrench, dealers WILL ignore literally all agreements you made with them to gouge you for wrenching it, and they won't even do a good job. You'll see literal high school kids driving teslas pulling up to go work at their wrenching job where they still put imperial unit wrenches on metric unit bolts because "WELL ITS CLOSE ENOUGH, RIGHT?" and later go "Uhhhhh sorry we ummmmmm found a stripped bolt and ummmmmmmmmmmmmm need a new head on your cylinder uhhhhhhhhhh $2000 please." without a shred of remorse. We have wrenching culture in the USA for the same reason third world nations have a wrenching culture: everyone is trying to fuck us at all times and it's for a job most people can do themselves better by reading the manual. That's all the shop techs are doing. They don't have any experts who know what the fuck they're doing, they'll hire high schoolers and Indians in a second. This is ON TOP of them also fucking us over on dealership fees. Most people want to never look at or enter a dealership ever after buying anything, used or new. Check out this guy spending almost twice what a Super Cub is worth in just doc and title fees alone.https://youtu.be/LQ39z6ymT90&t=30This is just normal here. >>29023142With bank number I mean my account number, you can't do anything with said number except send money to it.Ian the card number more useful for scamming purposes anyway
>>29023145Oh, that's a fairly sane system then. With Yamaha when I asked for an OEM replacement, they asked for my credit card number and that was on top of filling out multiple forms (I didn't get it in the end.)

>>29023156I would be cautious about 'breakfast' drinks, they have loaded with either protein or caffeine and will make the problem worse. That's why I like apple sauce, you just want things that boost blood sugar.
>>29023119>>29023126Damn, that sounds pretty grim. I mean you still need to be careful and attentive even here, not all companies/dealerships are good, sometimes the mechanics will do a shoddy job or leave things unfinished and reviews (from real people) help separate the good from the bad a lot. But it's nowhere near as bad as what you are describing.I am wondering though, does all of this come with a lower price? I recall america having much lower prices for used cars (and I assume bikes too) in general though maybe that's just because of tax/the market there? How much would you be expected to pay for a used 'ku in decent condition (so no crash damage or big flaws, mileage around 50k kilometers/30k miles and 10-15 years old at most). Here the prices for that hover around 4-7k eur, higher if you want something fancy of course. To give a concrete example, I paid 4750 for my 2008 GSX650F and it had 30k kilometers on the clock at the time. Part of the deal was 12 months warranty, new tires, and fluid/filter change

>>29023166ive always heard these horror stories about dealerships but in my own experience its the independent mechanics who are looking to screw you. dealerships might have a slightly higher price on the face of it, but things always go well. Across both cars and bikes this has been my experience. It's a bear to find an independent mechanic who isn't trying to screw you. There's little incentive for them not to, since they have contracts with tow trucks and have a constant flow of captured customers. But if I go back to the chevy dealer or the honda dealer who i've bought more than one vehicle from before they really do not want to screw me, since then I won't buy another car from them.

>>29023166Well it depends, not all dealership/companies are good here but not all are bad, either. There was a nice family-owned Honda dealership that I wish I gave every fucking cent in my bank account for a CRF250L a few years back, but I didn't. The problem is: It's way too easy for big, exploitative companies to get away with everything and way too difficult for good companies to be rewarded for being good. That family-owned Honda dealership? It got bought by a larger, regional dealership and is now one of the worst places on planet earth to buy a bike from. And that's pretty easy to see why: Being a nice, family-owned business doesn't earn checks, fucking people over earns checks and you have to REALLY fuck someone over to get to the point where the lawyers get involved. In America, fucking people over is just the default state because good customer service doesn't pay. >I am wondering though, does all of this come with a lower price?kek, no.> I recall america having much lower prices for used cars (and I assume bikes too) in general though maybe that's just because of tax/the market there? This was probably true at one time, but as time as gone on: It's less and less true at any time post-covid. Covid was the turning point where every industry realized they could make worldwide standardized prices and people would just put up with it. We're seeing it with computer parts, now. Cars and automobiles in general was one of the first things to have massive price hikes around the time of covid, the explanation being 'it's inflation' despite no period of inflation prior to this requiring such massive price hikes. It was basically the end of any real perk of owning a car or a bike in America. All this, and it's still not a requirement to come with any sort of guarantee or warranty, so we get fucked out of that, too.
>>29023260Most people don't know what bikes are or aren't knowledgable enough to understand what they have or what they ride. They just know they 'own a motorcycle' and maybe think the number is the ccs or have some stupid idea planted in their head about what the specs are.

I want to learn more about the nuances of racing Twin engines. What should I consoom? I see a lot of inline 4 related content discussing all the little things that goes into managing the revs but I don't know what I can listen to that goes in depth on twin shyt. Any suggestions? Ducati stuff maybe?
>>29023377I can't help you with knowledgeable resources but my general experience is big bore twins have a more momentum style where average speed is more important than point and shoot style that prioritize peak speeds like an i4. Point and shoot doesn't work so well on twins because they run out of horsepower on the top end, meanwhile all their mid range torque can make for high average speed with good momentum management
>>29023377A long time ago I read a track test of all the current superbikes that went into the nuances. In short, twins win bigly in medium speed and corner exit situations. On the way out of a corner twins are already in their powerband and making more torque than fours, so maximise your gains there. IIRC in the test, the KTM RC8R was pulling 2-3 bike lengths out of a bend before getting mogged by the Gixxer and Ninja before the braking zone. The 1098 was like the KTM but less minmaxed, and the big-bang R1 was middle ground. So basically carry speed, get on the throttle early and avoid tracks with mega- straights.
