i prefer the WRX/STI sedans. i've had a VA WRX for a few years and it's been great. doesn't have the aggression or glam of the older models, and desu it looks pretty fucking plain other than the hoodscoop.i'd love to see a resurgence of subaru in WRC and them making cars that aren't ugly as fuck... but idk that it's gonna happen. idk but they're not good looking hatches.fortunately Toyota is swinging with the GR hatches. hoping subi stops neutering the sedan and make it aggressive again.

The biggest problem is the engine, with the required 1.6L I4 being to totally alien to Subaru. Luckily, Toyota has the best engine right now and they could just leverage their partnership and buy some of those. Idk if STI has any of the in house know how to make a chassis though.

If a Mustang GT with a performance pack starts at $55,000, pricing a Corolla or Yaris GR at $45-50k is how they're pricing it based on comparative performance. Same for the I6 Charger. Similar numbers, worse car overall. So a Civic Si type R at $50-60k also tracks. Kinda sucks but it also makes a little sense if Subaru did the same thing. Realistically however if they were smart and gave 85% the performance for 70% of the price, they'd simply sell more units, but thats the gamble. If its a knockout shareholders will be upset there was missed profit left on the sticker. If its a dud riddled with problems, shareholders will also be upset but not because it was too expensive. Honda pricing the Prelude where it is today makes zero sense, none of the performance for the same price.

BUT: Why on earth would they release a car within spitting distance of another "performance" car but with 100 more horsepower and 3 more doors? I know manufacturers have a bit of overlap between cheaper models in top trim to nicer vehicles in mid-trim. For example a Ford Ranger Lariat is priced similar to an F150 XLT. Would subaru really do that for a "performance" model? I kinda doubt it.
