My Ural. Fabricated some adapter plates for the BSR33 CV clones and their intake boots, the PWK32 were supposed to be for the 750 OHV engine, but I might end up using the CV carbs instead, will see what I'll come up for the PWKs. Might have to buy another Ural.

Why are you "upgrading" from a CV to a flat slide? For the low end grunt?
And I have a couple of those rubber couplers along with bolt down boots. Been experimenting with carb adapters for a bit with the Urals.

The issue is that OG Ural carbs are mounted with nuts, with just a gasket between the head and the carb. Even worse is that the studs have a 52mm spacing which makes things more difficult as absolutely no one makes a boot that fits that spacing.
Optimal route would be a slightly longer intake pipe between the carb and head, would both insulate the carb from heat and allow you to make all kinds of wacky adapters. The issue is space constraints, even with stock carbs your leg is rubbing against the carb and filter hosing, space is a premium and with the PWKs I ended up kicking them by accident a lot.

just finished my first riding lesson. first day of sitting on a motorcycle too. we were all on 500-600 pound harleys. heat index is 107 fuck it was hot. one guy who brought in his own helmet with skull graphics on it pussied out and quit at noon. mid exercise i just see his bike stopped and he's off it and an instructor tells us all to stop and talks to him for a sec and he goes and walks inside, then he was gone. dude gave up i guess, said he doesnt think this is for him. he was all scared after the first exercise with his voice shaking badly. maybe could have made it if he wasnt sleep deprived, running on a monster energy drink and trying to learn this in this heat

my bike was sportier than the others and 1st gear would bring it down to 5mph quick so when going in big ovals and switching between 2nd and 1st i quickly started smoothly rev matching to use engine braking instead of slowing down with the clutch because it felt a lot more natural. thats ok right? they didnt tell me to do that but we were supposed to go down to 1st gear every lap and that felt way too slow on that bike (they told me the 1st gear ratio was kinda way too short on it). didnt seem to say anything or didnt notice even though it should have been obvious with the sound. maybe they thought i was just being retarded

The guys on the DR forums claim the pumper carb upgrade totally changes the bikes and makes it feel way faster.
The bike has an aftarmarket piston and cam so I'm thinking the pumper might be more suited to it.
Sounds like you're dealing with some insane specifics. If you ever get it figured out you should sell a kit lmao.

Absolutely not, they're a god damn treat to work on, jap i4 bikes in comparison are a nightmare to work on. The beauty of boxers is that there's absolutely nothing under the tank, everything is out in the open.
>>
>>29060332

So I've tried three motorcycles by now, two naked and one picrel Versys. The two naked were providing almost zero wind protection obviously, but then the Versys feels surprisingly very similar. Except for the hands which are fully protected, the helmet is being blasted by the wind turbulence in both windshield positions.

Now my question is, will it be better on Vstrom or Tracer which look very similar? Or it's the same for all motorcycles except full touring options like Goldwing, Harleys etc?
>>
>>29060532
Question everyone asks: How tall are you? A $40 fly windscreen may solve your problems.
>>
>>29060554
178cm (6'5)

So the wind protection issue can be generally solved, with either those deflectors or bigger screens?
>>
>>29060557

>>
>>29060557
Also changing your riding position. You may just need another helmet as well.

They make aftermarket deflectors for people around 6' tall since most bikes are made for people 5'6" (average human man height)

Buells are pretty sick. I would support American manufacturers and buy American if the bikes they made weren't just complete boomer slop. Imagine how great Buell could be if Harley just let them cook. We could have a real competitor for Japanese sport bikes.

Anyway, probably gonna take this ancient old thing to work tomorrow. Hard to believe, it's turning 20 next year. I remember having the image of a green one of these burned into my memory as a 14 year old. My mom was driving me home from school and some black guy in full squid attire whipped between us in traffic and the cop next to us took off after him about as fast as he could considering the conditions. I remember thinking, God speed my dude, git gone.

can indian please develop a division for sports bikes and touring/adv, or at least a chassis that they can work with for either? Indian clearly cares about performance more than harley does, and they have the capability to be what buell couldn't. Even now with the newer separate ebr, the bikes have terrible build quality. Indian could really make american ducatis if they wanted to, and they could already segway their marketing through their performance at the AMA stuff and flat track racing. Think of how good a lighter and fully faired ftr would look

So what's the deal with these throttle cable elbows?
They have an M5 thread with a 0.8mm pitch on it instead of having a regular inside thread for an adjustment screw.
With a quick google search, I couldn't really find any adjustment nuts off the shelf either.
I figured the cable for these things has 2 covers and an adjuster piece in the middle like on some dirt bikes.

Is this some jap only thing? Because I'll just rip them out of the "Mikunis" and stick in regular cable elbows with adjustment nuts instead.

i think the elbow screws into the carb and then the adjustment happens in line up the cable.
I did some googling, and I can find this similar elbow, which has an adjuster that goes up the camble

I do agree with him as far as theft goes, cops genuinely do not care at all about motorcycle theft. Do not go motorcycle only unless you have a locking garage and an immobilizer bolted to the floor. You can get those absolutely massive chains that tear up angle grinders, although usually people are looking to steal motorcycles with big bolt cutters, since most people choose thin chains.

According to Bennetts, and my bike has survived an obvious theft attempt with some of the products listed in this article (formerly he recommended this giant chain from kryptonite), if you put a chain on your bike (in the UK) it's statistically less likely to be stolen than a car. So you can do a lot with very little effort to protect yourself.

Pic1: Spark plugs on Monday after riding extensively on high-RPM.
Pic2: Same spark plugs today on Thursday, after 3 days of stationary idle RPM tests.
I didn't clean them or anything.

Is it fair to assume that some shit is wrong with my ignition timing so on high RPM when O2 sensor stops compensating - two outer 1&4 cylinders start to get rich af mixture? Should I be blaming Camshaft Position Sensor or CU? CPS measures on-spec in resistance, but It needs oscilloscope to properly measure while running. I ain't have one.

Them 1&4 cyl exhaust header pipes are also 40% colder than inner cylinders 2&3, consistent since lean runs hot and rich runs cool.

that left one is extra crispy, bottom row looks normal. It may be running a bit rich but I'm not sure it's THAT big of a deal. Oxygen sensors are a bitch to replace, CPS is literally just a magnet, it's one of those things that if it fails it's usually a broke wire or something obvious. If you're going to feel paranoid about it, replace all the sensors as much of a PITA it is.

>CPS is literally just a magnet, it's one of those things that if it fails it's usually a broke wire or something obvious
Something is making cul1-4 richer than cyl 2-3 by a lot. It can't be fuel since fuel rail is common for all 4 injectors, it can't be injectors since I swapped them around and replaced them, it can't be the coils or caps since I switched them around too.

In my mind, it could only be fucky ignition timing from ECU or CPS. I can't think of anything else.

>>29061497
Previous owner had it for 11 years and NEVER changed spark plugs and air filter. I really doubt he flashed anything.

They look fine, the leftmost is maybe a tad dark, but they're largely okay. I'd go take a pic of my plugs, but it's pitch black outside and I just came out of the sauna, so I can't be bothered to go pull plugs right now.

If your ignition timing was fucked, all plugs would look like shit and the bike would run like crap too.
If the EFI is fed from a single rail to boot, I'd suspect injectors first. Aren't the injectors fired in pairs anyway?

> I'd suspect injectors first. Aren't the injectors fired in pairs anyway?
Yeah 1-4 and 2-3 are injected, sparked, exhausted together, in pairs.

I did run a diag test on injectors, they do in fact, inject fuel. I have two sets of working injectors now: original that came with bike and cheaper chinese. There's power on all of their connectors and they all pass the diag spray test in pairs.

I don't know how well it can be seen in this scrunched up webm, but they do spray fuel in pairs from diag test. Spark plugs spark too, from nearby test.
>>
>>29061513
Have you bench tested the injectors? They might spray, but do they spray enough and how fucked up is the spray, you can't really tell that by eye.
You can nigrig a homemade injector test bench and shoot fuel into cups to measure the flow.
>>
>>29061516
I kind of did that when I cleaned old injectors that came with the bike. I've used piece of hose with welded bicycle nipple to put good carb cleaner pressure into each and tapped contacts to battery. They were spraying fine. I don't know if it was ENOUGH, but at least it was even for all 4.

>>29061412
Agree and disagree. It's totally location dependent. If you live somewhere with no snow, it's very doable. I was bike only for years when I lived in SoCal. I have since moved somewhere where we get pretty frequent snowfall in the winter. Is it doable on a motorcycle, yes, and I have. It's a whole lot nicer to have a car in the winter though, especially when the roads aren't really plowed yet and you're trying to get to work. Sliding a little when you don't want to isn't super fun in a car. It's less fun when it's the front wheel of your bike. There WILL be ice in those conditions. It's just a matter of where and when.
>>
>>29061526
AFAIK you're not supposed to power injectors solenoids for whole-ass 10 seconds, only to pulse them. They can fry. But seems superficial considering swapping them around or even replacing them with new ones, changes nothing.
>>
>>29061532
Of course I didn't mean to shoot them full blast for 10 seconds, that's not how injectors work anyway.
There should be youtube tutorials how to make an el cheapo injector test bench.

That being said, you got something really fucked up going if swapping coils and injectors around does nothing.
Have you checked valve adjustment?
>>
>>29061522

Eh, I feel like Honda's starting to do a decent bit of that too. >>
>>29061591
That's a wild take. Kawasaki is probably the most premium, although I could accept an argument for Honda based off of the Goldwing alone, even if the rest of their bikes aren't particularly premium. Suzuki is far and away the cheapest.

cagie here

had my first encounter with a retarded biker a few days ago
>1 lane road that enters a 2 lane roundabout
>see bikefag long before I reach the roundabout
>I enter the roundabout into the inner lane as I want to leave at the 2nd exit, a single lane
>see him enter same time as I do from my right, as he is lane splitting, he goes outside lane, think he will take 1st exit
>he doesnt
>I almost reach my exit, indicate
>he is still on the outside
>I have to "cut" him off, as he doesnt indicate or slow down or whatever and I dont know what the fuck he wants to do
>slow down a bit, he still doesnt really do anything
>he suddenly speeds up past me and exits the same way I indicated to

what the fuck was trying to do? if I was some boomer I would have side swiped him into the ditch, fucking retard
who the fuck lane splits going into a roundabout then stays in the blindspot of the car he just "cut" off? god damn if I didnt notice him beforehand I wouldnt have even noticed him enter the roundabout with me, as he went in from my right, and I was looking at the oncoming traffic (left)

Be an absolute sick cunt and make you seethe

But in all honesty, we need more information like where this is and the approximate age and race of the supposed rider in question
What color was his helmet?
Did he have stiggers on his helmet and or bike?
What kind of bike was it?
Was it even a fast i4 screamer or some lame learner bike?
Why does a roundabout even go from 1 lane into two; make it make sense
Let me guess, you saw a canadian on a kym duke 390 doing hooligan shit for the insta updoots?
>>
>>29061636
90 degree v twin is just better as far as balance if you specifically want a twin. Primary balance can be corrected perfectly instead of just redistributing part of the vibration. Secondary forces are already distributed along perpendicular axes.
>>
>>29061631
I see people use the outer lane to take the second exit commonly in Portugal. Cars and motorcycles alike. Often people who are nicer will indicate left if they are not taking the first exit, and right if they are which helps.

Hi, me again.
I decided on a VTR1000F.
I got two options and I want to hear your opinion what you'd go for:

Option 1
>Local private seller
>9000km very clean
>€2300
>Year 2000
>Gen 1, Carburettor and smaller 160km fuel tank.

Option 2
>Dealer seller but very far away. Would buy it sight unseen online
>11000km very clean
>€3500
>Year 2005
>Gen 2, fuel injection and bigger 200km fuel tank

Not necessarily buying to keep forever, just want a taste of a VTR and have it as a fair weather 2nd bike. I'd be spending €400 on an exhaust system for either option.
>>
>>29061650
I should add, option 1 needs a pair of new tires while option 2 is good to go
>>
>>29061650
>buy it sight unseen online
This is the only thing that would worry me about bike 2. Fuel injection is nice.
>>
>>29061642
As much as i agree and dont care all that much about traditional cruiser design decisions; we're hard pressed to find anyone making proper vtwins like you said other than ducatti- who doesnt make any cruisers anyway (diavel? Lmao even) and suzuki v stronk
Moto guzzi made like one cruiser and nobody buys their bikes, everyone harley has zero issues with aftermarket and parts availability
Which is a shame because i really like soVL twins

I had high hopes for the buell super cruiser
Someone should make a cruiser with the perfect engine balance like you just described

I feel like pretty much all helmets don't have the sound isolation I want for higher speeds though, and just wear foam ear plugs when I ride.

Just get a taller aftermarket windscreen, they go from 40 to 100usd depending on the model. KTM ADV windshields are pretty from stock, yet not the same can be said for their bikes as a whole, or better said, customer service since it depends of your dealership, and 99% of them are fucking kikes.

>>29061306
>>29061435

RE are very torque-ish bikes, yet past 5K RPM they barely do any pull, KTM are the complete 180, they dont pick it up until you reach 5K onwards, at 7K RPM they take up quite the speed.
Guerilla 450 is the perfect starter bike imo if you will use it mostly on road, just make sure to change the CEAT tires soon since they are total shit, Michellin ROAD 5 or similars will do wonders for that bike for street.

For a street bike I would go with either this one or a CB750 Hornet, rest simply doesn't make sense mostly due to pricing. Cruisers aren't bikes I would suggest as a first, its either a naked or a dual sport, or at most a light ADV bike if you have the money and want a mix of 50/50 of those two. 400X will feel pretty meh since you already tried the Guerilla, Bear should be fun, yet you will indeed notice the weight difference. V7 is a high contender though, also best looking one of this list.

Suggest you give a dual sport a try anyways, if you have a place to practice offroad, then you should highly consider one of these since it will help you hone your riding skill by a milestone and make asphalt a joke.

This, also bring a fucking bike cover with a cheap bicycle lock to keep it in so people don't remove it, best concealment is keeping the identity of it hidden. Temptation is the biggest draw for thieves, if they see shit covered they avoid cuz its another step for something now unkown.

>I'm install a android auto/car play screen to my bike
So here's the thing about that: Those usually communicate with the car somehow with a standard that is not found on bikes. So unless this is just a head unit for carplay with no interoperability, then who cares?

The reason they're telling you to tap off ignition instead of a bulb is because of the fuse sizes. The bulb fuze sizes are precise and usually small because how many parker bulbs you have is a known quantity. Your starting current isn't, and thus it's certain your starting circuit is fused to support that + a little more while also having a wire harness that's beefy enough to run the starter.

>can't I upsize the fuzes?
If you want water inside of a bad bulb to potentially melt wires, sure.
>>
>>29062339

>>
>>29062378
You already got your answer, nigger. The installation guide for your unit says to put it on the ignition circuit. The posts online say to put it on the ignition circuit. The diagram for your bike's fuses tell you that the fuse for the accessory lights are small compared to the ignition circuit, and when asked to provide your bike's model; you give the wrong model because you're a stupid cunt. It's not the service manual, the posts online, and the instruction manual for your head unit that's wrong.
Why did you even ask us? You clearly made your mind up that you were going to do it the wrong way.
>I'm fucking done in here
So long, retard. Good luck melting your $15K BMW's wire harness and getting someone with a brain to fix it for you.
>>
>>29062314
The other guy is harping on fuses but there's a much bigger reason: Light bulbs in series in a DC circuit act as a big resistor that only output the wattage of the bulb. So your circuit only has the wattage of the bulbs in series, but if you wire it in parallel - this happens:
https://web.physics.ucsb.edu/~lecturedemonstrations/Composer/Pages/64.36.html
tl;dr lighting circuits are limited not by their fuses but by the bulbs themselves. That's why they're saying use another circuit.

>>
>>29062331
>its all 12v. i just want to know why people advise cutting into something important on the bike than auxiliary.
Anyone who says it's "Too Important" to "Cut" into the starter system shouldn't be doing electronics for their bike. Your starter system is a series of wire blocks that connect to either a switch or a start system. It's not a precise piece of engineering and if you aren't comfortable with that, don't do the job.
>>

Electrical engineer here. I don't really know how electricity works, but I guess my main concern would be the size of the wire going to the bulb. It would probably be sized for the load, and if you add another load on the same wire then you could draw more than it can handle. I don't know how much current a head unit draws, but I'm imagining a tiny little gaming PC so it would surely use a reasonable amount of power, even if it isn't wired up to any speakers. Just run a new wire, don't be lazy.
>>
>>29062716
I'd say 40W is a reasonable expectation for a smallish head unit. 20W if you get something that doesn't even have a screen. But the thing to also remember is the fuse is sized to protect the wires, not the components. So in theory, if no other modifications are done, the fuse would go before the wires. Again, this is assuming the person in question doesn't have the fuse pop, and then upsizes the fuse to keep the load. The danger of that being the same as anyone who upsizes a breaker in their house to fit a new entertainment system: It looks like it's working at first, and then over time, you start to smell something burning.
