My ce04 is still fun, but I discovered one more downside of going electric: it's too easy.
On a normal bike you have no choice but to be engaged in the ride. No matter how exhausted or bored you are, no matter how terrible you feel, you are active in your ride. And if you are not in a condition to be active in the ride, you don't ride.
But with electric, being a bit sick, a bit sleepy, and riding on a boring highway it's easy to switch off. The windblast still keeps me away, but overall todays' ride felt like one time when I had to drive an electric van at night and almost flew off the road missing the tight bend with speed limit going from 100 to 50. Nothing terrible happened only because the road was wide and empty, but it still was "fun" to get asleep behind the wheel, and flying on this sofa today felt dangerously close to that.

Maybe not the worst idea but idk what the electrical charging situation is over there. Over here in America we're still pretty paltry on new EV stations. >>29063073
they stopped making the rc 390 in 2024 and it hasn't shared it's engine with the other ktm 390s for a while. the backlit controls and cornering abs are nice, but the maintenance is steeper.

the vales need to be check ever 9k and they have a tendency to actually go out, so you need to check them. a yamaha r3 though has intervals of like 25k miles and are better about holding spec. the rc390 also just had like a dozen recalls, including a new one where a bad throttle sensor bricks the bike.

>I can just buy something with all the fixings when I go up
yes. you're going to move on beyond a bike that has trouble passing on the highway pretty quickly. no, you're not going to turn it into a lightweight track bike: it's cheaper to buy a built bike and the light weight classes are ruled by r3s and ninja 400s right now. the rc 390 used to be popular, especially since ktm would sell you a factory race bike, but its been displaced due to simple reliability.

Anyone with more than two braincels know which brand is good.

Don't fall for yamajew's tricks.
>>
>>29063073
There are lots of known issues with KTMs, water pump fails and so many more. You are lucky if the RC390 goes beyond 30k km. REs are understress and RC390s is just being held by hopes and dreams. Atleast the parts are cheap for a KTM.

Well this is the thing: apparently that is only true if you try to corner like a 2 wheeler. If you approach corners at car entry speeds however and do appropiete push/pull handlebar turning with waist weight shifting they handle fine.

Or if you do a reverse trike arangement which is still legal under a car loicense they handle the exact same as a 2 wheeler around corners. Apparently there are quite a few reverse trike kits for hayabusas which just so happen to be me one of my favorites (although I think it might be suicide to go with one).

I crashed between 30-40mph. I was in rain mode on Sporter S, I knew it was slippy and was riding cautiously but didn't help, did something wrong and the bike may as well been on sheet ice just flopped right over in a fraction of a second.

I'm all ok besides some bruising, grazed up right arm and hand. The bike is mostly ok, the right foot controls are perished but it doesn't look any frame/bars/shock damage at all. I rode it afterwards about 2 miles to my sisters place, no warnings or fluid leaks. Ill need a tank respray too but it isn't dented, just some deep scratches.

I had a AAA textile/kevlar shirt near enough brand new from a known brand (stocked in Harley dealers in UK) and I am really unimpressed with how it held up - what do I do about that? The forearm has completely shredded through from a slide in the wet. Not only that, the zip+button fastening the wrist might as well have not been there as they failed immediately, and the shirt rolled up to my elbow in the slide.

Icon boots completely protected by foot/ankle from a 220kg bike landing on it so will be buying them again.

>>
>>29063369

>And orange lights that stick to the sides stay unlit?
We have orange reflectors that aren't lit but are there to make the bike more visible at night
>>
>>29063307
First off, you're only bruised so it's not as bad as you think it is. That shirt did its job, believe it or not. There is no kevlar or resistant material in the universe short of leather or metal that would keep the scratches or bruises from happening.
Second, don't shop harley dealers, shop online. Revzilla has reviews from people who have been in crashes with certain kinds of gear, and they have generous sales on it quite often.
Thirdly, get an airbag. Icon boots were a good choice tho

And I think your bike came out great so it doesn't seem like a 30 MPH crash, you probably slowed down to 20 MPH before it truly hit the ground. Riding in the first 15 minutes after it rains is dangerous, the oil pools to the top of the asphalt and pretty much any tire that is not specifically a 50/50 tire is going to slip once it hits any large pool of oily water, it's inevitable.
>>
>>29063442
50/50s won't do shit. Oil gets on the contact patch, and 50/50s have less contact patch with the road than slicks.

What's up with that? There's also
- BMW M1000XR with 50hp more

- Suzuki GSX-S1000GX with better K5 engine

andssome more. Any reason to want specifically the Honda?

you do have a friend who can press a pedal and pull a lever while you're bleeding the master cylinder, right?

>>
>>29063508
Yes, but if a mechanic who has done it for 10000 bikes cant get it right i probably also cant
>>
V3R when?
>>
>>29063523
You have to remember Mechanics are looking at like 20 bikes a day, they get paid per bike. So they could do it, and do it right, but doing it right takes time. For every brake-bleed there are two-three other "I wired a cigarette lighter to my neutral light circuit and now it won't work :^(" fuse replacement that takes him 20 seconds to do and he can charge $400 for.

I wish this were not the case, but you have to find a mechanic you can be a friend with if you want sane or fast service. You can never expect it to happen with McGarages.

>still on my quest to find my first bike

test rode a Triumph Scrambler 400X. after testing the Royal Enfield Guerilla 450 and not being happy with how hammering it was, I was a bit worried about the 400X.
but the Triumph was surprisingly smooth all the way. it didn't have the low ref punch the Guerilla has, but overall a better ride.

yesterday I visited a 50-60yo man to look at his RE Bear 650 and it was in flawless condition, but he didn't let me test ride it with the explaination 'what if something happens'. well, good luck finding a buyer willing to blind buy a 8000€ bike off you

on Monday I'll ride a Guzzi V7

You are middle age. Most people don't live past their 70s. 45-55 is called middle aged to psyop people into working themselves to death. If you have no interest in off-road and aren't scared of a weird oil change + doing your own valves (dead simple on those bikes), a V7 would be a great bike.
>>
>>29063689
>V7 would be a great bike
The only thing great about it is the shaft drive, everything else is mediocre at best. But the guy buys it for how it looks so nothing else matters.
>>
>>29063689

>>29063693

who the fuck said that? my top priority is how I fit on it and how it feels to drive, but I also want to like what I see.
or do ride a bike that you think is ugly?
>>
>>29063693
If someone doesn't want to go fast then I really see no other issues with it. They're not that expensive, they have a fucking huge gas tank due to the engine design, they cool both cylinders equally due to said engine design, they're Italian so they're a bit more designed for corners than the average cruiser/standard, and they have a recently wide seat.
>>
>>29063641
If you're interested in off road at all, don't fall for the scrambler meme.

I don't think I would go proper off-road with it, just pic related at most and only once in a blue moon if I feel like having that sort of fun, but most of the time it's going to be the road - realistically. commuting to work for me are hilly, twisty roads; up and down and up again, serpentine roads. that sort
>>
>>29063696
You are coping my friend. It has a old classic geometry that was good 70 years ago to sit and drive on, but times have changed and motorcycles improved a fuck ton in comfort and dynamics. There's a link in OP post where you can compare seating positions with your height, check that out.

I get your point, but aren't these ADVs a bit cumbersome to get around with for daily commute and 'I'll quickly jump on it to go to x'?
it's my first bike and I don't want to overdo it with the power until I'm confident with biking in general. The Honda NX 500 looks fine and I sat on it today, but they're so massive
>>
>>29063747
OK now it's finally a good and fair argument. I personally can't sit on smaller bikes because it feels too restrictive, but you might feel different and need a smaller bike for a city.
>>
>>29063757
>need a smaller bike for a city
>>29063706
that's actually my daily commute. I'm not sure why, but in my head I'd rather swing on a smaller nimble bike to go to work (25min ride) than on these big chungusses.
I would definitely get one as a second bike for longer trips, but I don't know about as a daily commuter

i went down this road that was gated off and had a sign prohibiting it for motor vehicles. but i was on my wr250r and i figured it would be ok. it was really pretty and i decided to stop and take a photo.
it was kind of damp and dark. paved asphalt road with a layer of pinestraw over it.
i was going probably 30 mph and as soon as i touched the front brake, the front wheel kind of just fell over and i dumped the bike.
everything was fine but what was i supposed to do there? rear brake only? it didn't even feel like a dangerous situation. everything was normal and then "am i falling? yep im on the ground".
>>
>Be me
>Forget I'm an idiot

Use more engine braking. Youre basivally riding over what appears to be "natures clibbins" and it doesnt matter what tire you have. Same with ice etc.

>>29063706
desu that's perfect scrambler ride as long as it's dry and not too ruined. i took mine to a muddy hill and got it stuck and recently took it to do some light mountain enduro. a simple unpaved scenic road like that is where you can have some fun, slide the rear a bit and get it dusty and then ride it back home in a couple of twisties after inflating the tires back but everything more and you have to be a bit of a masochist or mod it quite a bit (especially suspensions)

Learner here. Looking for first bike.. Lots of talk about "might be small for a big rider" etc. What does that even mean? What is "big"? Is if fat? How fat is fat? Is it tall? how tall is tall? Is it both?
I'm 6 foot ultralardass, should I even take it into account or just get something I like and feel comfortable with? The only reference I have will be my learner bike though.

define ultralardass. how many burgerunits or kilos are we talking? because I started with 120kg, same height two months agon (now down to 111kg) and it's perfectly fine. even the smaller 40hp bikes will move you around no problem.
at this height you may find smaller or sportier bike uncomfortable because of the angle of your knees, but that depends on inseem length
>>
>>29063910
300 pounds. I'm working on it, but if I finish learning this season I'm thinking of maybe buying something right away.
I'm not worried about power, but I get confused when people in social media (beginner bike videos etc) mention "it's a small bike so you might feel cramped if you are big" etc. I just don't know what to do with that information.
>>
>>29063916

Get a 1000, your weight will cancel it out and it'll feel like 300-500 and you'll love it.
>>
>>29063916
go to dealerships and sit on them, you'll notice soon enough. some bikes are just physically small and have high foot pegs and they might feel cramped. you won't know unless you sit on any of them.

you listen to queen a lot or why do you want another one to bite the dust?

Always lead with the rear brake off road. Not that this was really off road, but the pine straw probably had a greater effect on your traction than you anticipated. Honestly I'd probably make the same assumption, but leading with the rear brake is always the right call in these situations. Front brake is the enemy

Im saying it does t mattwr what tire tou have because those are grade doomsday tier clibbins, it means avoid riding through that, your tires dont matter when its a layer of loose shit over a large tractionable road like surface of asphalt underneath
It would be different if you were on those clibbins within the forrest or a clearcut logging patch lets say, and had moisture or a base layer of different terrain
Obviously dont take your slicks through either of those instances, wtf who does that
