You're in for a lot of grinding and milling a bike frame to make things fit. Be prepared to buy braces to hold the engine, too. The supplied kit will not fit most conventional bikes.

I cannot because I do not know fuckall about body position.
>>
>>29068944
it could just be the exact moment the picture was taken but you look too upright, almost body criss-crossing
its great that you can get a knee down but the bike is unnecessarily low at this point. the ultimate goal is bike as vertical as possible - which results in the body hanging off as much as needed.
the inside arm (if turning left) should be bent at the elbow, the outside arm should be straight. like you are dabbing, like kids used to do 5 years ago
one ass cheek off the seat, done prior to turning the bike in
kiss the inside mirror with your helmet, head up as far forward as possible

Curve your upper spine by pointing your chin (head) at the exit. Also, don't grip it like a hammer. Hold it like a icecream cone.
>>
>>29069097
But also body position is dynamic so you could be fine for the circumstances taken within the moment. For example, that is actually a good position if the corner you're entering is obscured/blind or if you know there's cars further ahead and need to be ready to stop mid corner while having fun. (A sudden shit falling in the road, some dipshit slamming their brakes, etc)

Got my first bike last week. Didn't ride for a year (last time I did was for the first half of the licence), passed my riding licence, got it, bought the bike and gear in less than 4 days.
The day I got it, it was raining like crazy and the tires were brand new... anyway, I thought I was gonna die that day.

Please recommend me a closed helmet that goes hard with these types of bikes (neo-retro).
Also any modifs in mind I can make on the bike, I'm really new to this.

Buy a helmet for your head shape. Check if you are long oval or intermediate oval or round oval and try helmets that way. Also look for one with ECE 22.06.

If it doesn't have adjustable clutch and brake levers, get those. Also, steel braided lines and sintered pads would be a good addition if it doesn't come with it. Just ride the bike as is for 3 months and modify for comfort.

Also, you are not allowed to look for farkles before you have all the gear, that includes an airbag vest.

Sexy baiku btw.
>>
>>29069326
Basically anything with a simple shape and flat colour. Something like an airoh commander 2 or arai tour-x5 if you want more texture on your silhouette

Do not bother with mods unless it's something you absolutely want or need. If you ever plan on selling the bike on 9/10 buyers won't gaf and then you're just sinking money for genuinely minimal benefit

i am partial to grip wraps tho

> All the gear.
Yesterday while I was trying to fall asleep, I realised how reckless I was for a new biker when it came to gear. I was riding home from the gym and tried to push the bike a little bit more. I was wearing nothing but a hoodie, the gloves, long shoes and my helmet.
The issue being the clothing (pants and hoodie with only a t-shirt underneath. It fucking strike me during the night that I was being a moron. At the same time, wearing all that shit is so annoying. Lifesaving I know but damn.
Don't know if they make riding hoodies, do you know ?
> Sexy baiku btw.

>>
>>29069418
Buy a bike with lift control. I can't wheelie, but my MT-09 can.
>>
>>29069420
My rule is I always wear a a helmet, since I always wear a helmet on my bicycle, and if I'm going over 40mph - strict limit - I put on all the gear. Since 40mph is the fastest I go on my bicycle down the biggest hill on my route.

Okay Italian anon, explain this. South Sicily, my speed 83km/h outside of a city where the speed limit 30km/h on and off for some itailan god reason. How crappy are those enfield 411? Ideally I'd want a dual sports but where I live a 30-40yo clapped out DT sells for 4k+. CRF250/300 and the new DRZ4 are way out of my budget. Just want something to ride in town and on some very light trails.

Bike looks sweet. That half-yellow, half-chrome gas tank is wicked cool.
my tip for a new biker is
>always be in the powerband
when i started i tried to cruise in low RPM, to save gas, and be less obnoxious
that was DUMB. you should make a LOT of noise. it's safer, your bike is much more responsive and as a bonus, way more intimidating AKA cooler for girls.

Not even true. RE is just supreme at paying people to talk good about them.
I swear they pump more money into advertising their bikes than they do on R&D
If you start looking into RE failures they start to become obvious. They have a terrible power/weight ration and you're almost always better off just getting a DR650 or something.
Triumphs seem to be doing okay I guess.

How a bike handles rough terrain depends on a handful of things: suspension travel, spring rate, ground clearance, weight of the bike, and in the case of your question, body position. I would say a naked would handle a rough road, think pot holes and speed bumps, a bit better than a sport bike. The sport bike will typically have stiffer suspension and a hunched over body position.

Throttle feels flat for the first, like, 1/6th of input. Tried swapping around the pilot jets but doesn't seem to change much.
Bike pulls hard when you get on it, but maybe I'll try putting a bit of a shim on the needle to see if it helps with the flat feel with consistent/small amounts of throttle

I owned both and I'm a burger. Vino get 125cc, but they are old and the one I had was 50cc, it would die a lot on lights and I wasn't fast enough for a drunk Mexican and he ran me over. The only reason why I wasn't maimed or killed as I was sitting(not riding) I flew off 20 feet like a hockey puck, i. I had broken ribs and fractured foot but since I'm American I skipped going to the doctor as I have no insurance, luckily I healed fine. I got a red super cub, a few months after it. I haven't ridden much as I'm neet can't find a dead end job, well because immigrants stole all of them and my last job I suffered from carbon carbon monoxide poisoning so nobody will touch me, so I can't afford insurance (no way i'm I risking getting hit by a immigrant and losing my cub because I got it for 1500 bucks) or a new helmet as mine from the last crash is smashed but it still works.

The cub is fun to drive, feels like a nimble bike more nimble than the vino. The only down side is the weird shifting(honestly wished it was fully auto or standard clutch) and it gets some time getting used too. Also I have only ridden it about 50 hours, not much unlike the Vino. But its also too slow for roads in America, so I'm thinking the next bike I will get is a Vespa 300. I know its a blog post but I owned both and driven both.

>>
>>29070247
if you dont know anything about engines or bikes you shouldnt buy a motorcycle you could put a classic plate on. In my state 20 years is knocking on the door of being defined as an antique. Buy something 5-10 years old tops if you're new to bikes and wrenching.

but they have 2k to 5k miles on them for $2000

>>29070251
More likely youll be spending 2000 to learn to fix every part of a bike rather than spending 2000 to ride. Depending on which ninja and how exactly you meant 20 years old, we're talking getting to know how to rebuild and synchronize carbs too.
This could be a really fun learning experience and mechanical project. But it probably will not be a really fun motorcycle.

this is good advice IMO, I bought an older bike as my first bike and basically everything is wrong with it:
>muffler totally clogged, $100 to buy a new one
>brakes fucked
>brake cables fucked
>throttle cable loose
>tires fucked
>battery dead
>spark plug rusty and black
>torn gasket on the carb area
>probably some more rubber stuff fucked that I haven't found yet
>all the fluids were old and needed to be replaced
>rust in the fuel tank (not terrible compared to others)
>wheel bearings shot
>leaky forks
Buying a new bike would've been a bit more expensive but much less headache.

I have started having more rear brake engagement and habitual useage than before when i stattrd the practice wheelie arc
But i gigafugged my fork seals on the mud express, so im probably going to have to rebuild both those, probably going to pickup neoprene sleeves for them too, those things look cool
Sgould i get front fork shocks? I kinda dont care and just need to rebuild and refill the fork seals and oil, id rsther not spend money on costly upgrades which it seems fine sprung in the front, i rwally like my rear shock now tbat it stiffer that was worth it

Also dang bros, harley evo sporty is the way to go?
What years sporty are the best? I think ill pass on the 883 bore out timeline and look for a newer chopper type without peanut tank; finally get the king and queen seat locked and loaded on a baik perhaps?
How does the production of the sproters evo engine work even?
They stoppes making evos for the bigger pigs ebcause they werw obsolete but kept them on the sportster? Am i understanding it correctly?
I heard somw places that the sportsters also sound different, i need to fins harleys side by side and compare the potatoes like an irish monk would prior to setting sail to new hampshire aboard the HMS Montgomery; its basically a boat filled with potatoes to accurately and metaphorically describe how much i already like shoom sounds- let alone soVL twin sounds

This is sick, but there's no way I would trust this place not to collapse. Also, what's the warning light that came on a little before 2 minutes?

I don't have any more underwear with holes in them, threw them out few years ago. Yes, senpai, I don't use it more than a day, it's always fresh ones too. I'm feeling confident this time.

What is your head shape? Intermediate oval? Long oval. Look for your head shape. Brands to get:
Cheap: LS2, KYT
Budget: HJC
Expensive: Arai, Shoei, Alpinestars

Also, helmet is like batteries, do not buy old stock, if its more than 6 months old, run. Or negotiate heavily.

Fit is more important than anything, if there are any hot spots, just get a different one. Get a balaclave and wear the helmet and sit in the shop for 30 minutes. It should be really snug. Good luck anon. If you have chosen a helmet, post here, we'll give opinions.

Its got an external voltage regulator, battery fired ignition coils and lights, that's all the electronics you'd realistically need in a bike.
I'd personally use a magneto instead of battery ignition, but understandable why the Soviets and Germans went this way instead.

>>29070819
Upgrades for Urals usually consist of finding a 750 OHV engine if you want to stay Ural or a BMW airhead engine if you just want a reliable boxer bike that looks good, BMW clearly is unable to deliver that.
I've seen one example of a BMW GS engine stuffed into an Ural, but that involves a lot of chopping, welding and fabricating.
There's some small quality of life improvements brought by the advancement of technology like CDI and contactless ignition systems.
Urals don't really have any kind of off the shelf aftermarket like Harleys do, it's all do it yourself stuff.

There are idiots out here buying miku helmets, gundam helmets and ADV dads buying high viz helmets. Buying a helmet that matches your baik is just cute. Go ahead. As for the date of manufacture, it was written in the helmet, one of the tags on the padding or something. Search for it. Or it must be present somewhere on the packaging.

You need to go try them on in person. My favorite helmet is my Bell Moto 3, my least favorite helmet is my Bell Qualifier. The Bell Qualifier is so bad I didn't even realize how bad it was till I tried other helmet, Shoei street helmets, etc.
Never buy a bell Qualifier.
As much as I love my Bell Moto 3, I'd never spend big money on a Bell helmet.

Final (hopefully) question - i've only ever owned one helmet so I don't know if it's just the way things are or not, but mine seems to let a lot of wind in - above 65km/h I can't even hear the engine anymore because the wind is so loud. Will more expensive helmets be more closed off or is that just the way things are? I wear earplugs so it's not a biggie, but if I'm getting a new helmet I might as well see if I can get a quieter one.
>>
>>29071225
Better helmets should be quieter.
Some helmets are just poorly designed, and some helmets just don't fit your head properly.
Chin curtains significantly reduce wind noise but also reduce air circulation in the helmet.
>>
>>29071230
theyre literally all the same and you are a fucking retard and a wrenchlet
>>
>>29071230

>>
>>29071225
Yes, more expensive helmets are generally quiter, but that is not always the case. Touring helmets are quiter than adventure lids, racing helmets and dirt bike helmets, checkout champion helmets, they have detailed review of what the decibels are at particular speed. I think the perfect trifecta of motorcycles is true for the most part, sportybike, offroad, cruiser.
However in practice I've found 3 bikes to be impractical. Maybe If I had more money, space, and time.
>>
>>29071251
There are also some budget ways around making a helmet quieter like taping bad spots where air whistles and wearing a balaclava.
But I still think it's worth buying a helmet that fits you properly.
Cheap helmets are often overly heavy and cumbersome (many exceptions, but still)

>>

You don't really need the time, even if that makes 3 arguably a waste. Money and space, yes. I've got 3 myself. ADV, superbike, and 70s standard bike. ADV gets 90% of my miles just because it keeps working with simple maintenance and is comfortable.
>>
>>29071256

It has to be five bikes for me.
- GS for touring
- Scoot for bopping around
- Dizzer 400 or some other light dirt bike so you can have two bikes in one. A sumo and a dirt bike
- A sport bike

But knowing me, I'd only use GS and scoot, so two bikes should be enough.
>>
>>29071263
With 3 I always felt as though I was neglecting one.
With two I'm at least always giving one maintenance and riding the other.
When I had 3 I was mostly riding 1 and fixing 1 other.
Could just be my taste in shitbikes thoughbeit.
>>29071264
Yeah I'd love an old cowboy cruiser to get out on the highway. Could never do a real chopper with the lack of rear suspension, but something with some rear pillows would be nice.
>>
>>29071267
scooter almost shouldn't be considered because it's too reliable and basically a backup utility vehicle lmao
>>
>>29071274
>With 3 I always felt as though I was neglecting one.
Oh I'm definitely neglecting one. I started out from my second bike onward always owing a supersport or superbike, so it'd feel wrong to sell it.
>>
>>29071283
So the real solution is to pawn a bike off to family so they have to take care of it while you ride the others.
Also they can't sell it or crash it
>>
>>29071274
>>29071283
The bike I'm neglecting is my first bike. It's a 300cc sporty bike. It's a brilliant bike and after buying two more, I realize bigger is not more fun and I can't let the little guy go.
>>
>>29071306
I am in the exact same situation.
Lucky for me insurance is cheap on it so it will continue to sit.
>>
>>29071303
I don't trust my family to even ride my bikes for a moment. My dad is the only one who really rides, and I don't need him dropping my S1KRR like he does all of his.

>>29071306
If you have more fun on it, why's it not getting the time?
>>
>>29071314
Riding posture is a bit uncomfortable when compared to scoot and GS and I'm a weak bitch and my wrists start hurting after riding for a few hours.

I remember when I was younger I wanted to look cool by smoking. Outside a nightclub watching some chicks dead into the eyes I flicked a cigarette, tried to say something but the butt somehow rolled back onto my chin and then onto tshirt instantly making a hole. I understand maybe next time I should not do that when I try to talk to a woman.

Eh, definitely a mix of both. Yeah, I know that a lot of it is just an issue that I'm making up in my head, but I'm still a very awkward guy. For the most painful time, it was definitely the one time I can recall a woman every trying to hit on me. The highlights of that were: her asking if I was gay, me forgetting my age (this concerned her), and me not even considering leaving with her because I went out to listen to music and it was barely the second act on stage. I am not exaggerating when I say it was like picrel at a point. Anyways, I can laugh at how funny that situation was now, but it still hurts. My general anxiety was far worse in college, and I have managed to work through a lot of it since then, but I'm still not all the way there yet.
13 months until I get my wizard powers, btw

>>
just finished day 1 of 2 of my msf course, my helmet is very tight in the cheeks and it was honestly starting to hurt my teeth, will that go away once it breaks in? I heard you can change the cheek pads.
>>
>>29071780
It never goes away, it will be even worse. You can change cheek pads, but that will most likely not help. I did order slimmer cheek pads for me, had the same feelings as before. What I did, I literally pulled the foam from those pads out by cutting the stitching and removed half the foam with a blade.

Or just buy another helmet. Apparently it's a trap manufacturers use to get money from you by refusing to indicate what head shape the helmet suits. Welcome to the world of motorcycle products.
