>>29079810I'm tired of stuff being hard to repair, I'm tired of not having parts or even tools or at least access to tools, and I'm tired of tools being expensive. A lot of the stuff we all work with is hundreds of years old, well understood, and shouldn't be so hard to find parts or tooling for. Even if the tooling has to be made by hand, we're stopped by abusive landlords and HOAs from manufacturing at home. The daily commute where my 2smoke gets to fall silent as a hub motor takes its job, it's because I can't get parts for it and can't bodge shit for it because even the tools I can get have so much play that they're useless for machinery. The one weekend it gets to roar into the night briefly before choking on itself, it's because I had to work overtime on it to fix something any other retard should have diagnosed and fixed in ten minutes.Even at work, I get made fun of for it; that it doesn't work. It's not in good fun. I think even the guys from other buildings are starting to see that it's a bit of a shambles. I'm not good at this kind of thing. Nothing can just work, and I can't make anything work. They all have harleys, or at least honda shadows or some other ape-hanger. There I am on my dogshit cobbled e-bike with the world's simplest engine on it, and I can't even help them within my own job as a tech, after locking wheels and shearing gears and shit.

I am fucking retarded bros. Crashed my baiku last night in a local suburb speeding over a blind crest where the road dipped away to the left. Went over the crest, up on the curb on the right hand side of the road where I've put the bike down on the grass and then smacked straight into a parked car on a driveway. Don't remember fucking anything except coming to and ambos and police being there. >>29079961>>29079963Do not listen to this heretic! He is no Mechanical Cleric—he is a Money Worshipper, devoted to the false god of New Things and the filthy doctrine of Planned Obsolescence.Every machine possesses a sacred soul, and that soul must be appeased through the Rituals of Maintenance. Oil must be offered. Filters cleansed. Bolts tightened. Strange noises investigated before they become expensive noises.Neglect these sacred rites for too long, and the Machine Gods may curse the machine spirit. Sometimes temporarily. Sometimes permanently. And sometimes the machine simply makes a noise nobody can identify—which is arguably worse.Do not believe the heresy that Newer is Always Better. An ancient machine, properly maintained and treated with reverence, may possess a soul so experienced that it can outlive several generations of younger machine spirits. Some say an old machine spirit, having survived decades of abuse, questionable repairs, and operators declaring “that sound is normal,” develops a resilience no new machine spirit can comprehend.Ultimately, the machine's fate rests with its operator and its Mechanical Cleric—whether that cleric is professionally hired, self-appointed, or simply the poor bastard who owns a toolbox and has watched enough YouTube tutorials.Praise the Machine Gods. Change thy oil. Heed not the warning light. And NEVER ask what that mysterious bolt was for.

I covered exactly 500km in 24 hours, with the first leg being exactly 100km (mix of 30/50/60/70/80/100 km/h roads) and still having 17% battery left. The claimed max range of 120km sounds realistic as long as you don't ride fast.It feels like the optimal speed to minimize the charging time overhead lies between 66-68 km/h.Riding this thing for so long feels like I'm sitting in an airplane, hearing nothing but the turbine whine and wind turbulence, exactly the same impression except you get to see the scenery.Compared to my last long trip that I took on an ICE bike (which was a loud old thumper) my head feels more fresh, as I no longer get fatigue from engine noise.Compared to any decent modern ICE bike I'd rather take an ICE for this trip. It wouldn't take 24 hours to get this far then.

If a Japanese motorcycle company were starting fresh in 2026, **they almost certainly would not set up a traditional dealership network.**Instead, they would likely follow the electric vehicle playbook (like Tesla or Rivian): an online direct-to-consumer app, a few regional corporate "experience centers" for test rides, and mobile service vans for repairs.Your instinct about **tort law and regulatory creep** is spot on—it’s not just paranoia; it is a massive driver of modern business architecture.---### Why the 1970s Model Is Dead to New EntrantsIn the 1960s and 70s, Honda and Yamaha *had* to build physical dealership networks. The internet didn't exist, freight logistics were primitive, and local dealers were the only way to market, distribute, and service bikes. If a brand tried that from scratch today, three major legal and financial walls would stop them:#### 1. "Franchise Protection" Laws (The Dealership Monopoly)Over the last 50 years, auto and motorcycle dealer associations lobbied state legislatures to pass insanely strict **Franchise Protection Acts**.* Once an OEM signs a contract with a dealer, **it is almost legally impossible to fire or replace them**, even if they do a terrible job.* The state forces the manufacturer to give dealers exclusive geographical territories.* Legacy brands (like Honda) are trapped in this system. A *new* brand entering the market in 2026 would run as far away from traditional franchise agreements as possible to maintain control over their own sales.#### 2. Strict Product Liability & The US Tort SystemYou're right to feel uneasy about how corporate legal exposure works. The US is the most litigious market in the world, specifically around **strict liability**:* **The Law:** Under US tort law, a manufacturer can be held strictly liable for an injury caused by a defective product, even if they weren't negligent in their manufacturing.
>my mechanic told me that someguy is selling cb1300>it cost more than a brand new africa twinjesus fuck whats so good about this fossil?
>>29080546* **The Corporate Shield:** A traditional US dealership is a heavy, visible target with brick-and-mortar assets, massive insurance policies, and local corporate presence.* **The Direct Importer Loophole:** Overseas budget brands bypass this by staying completely out of reach of US courts. They sell to a middleman entity that imports crates. If a string of lawsuits hits the importer, that middleman files Chapter 11 bankruptcy, dissolves, and a new LLC takes its place tomorrow—leaving the factory overseas completely untouched.#### 3. Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) RiskWhen Honda ships a bike to a dealer, the dealer performs a PDI (filling fluids, checking torque specs on bolts, testing brakes). The dealer shares the legal liability if the front wheel falls off. With direct-to-consumer crate bikes (like X-PRO), the importer shifts that entire burden onto **you**. By uncrating it and signing the waiver, you essentially act as your own certified mechanic and assume the assembly liability.---### Has Tort Law Gotten Out of Control? From a business manufacturing standpoint, **yes**.The cost of product liability insurance, state franchise compliance, EPA/DOT certification, and legal defense in the US is built directly into the price tag of every product.* A **Japanese/Western 250cc Dual Sport** costs **$5,000–$6,500** largely because you are paying for corporate legal shields, extensive EPA testing, 50-state franchise compliance, warranty reserves, and dealer profit margins.* A **Chinese Crate 250cc Dual Sport** costs **$1,700** because it strip-mines every single one of those legal, regulatory, and physical safety nets away. It's disturbing, but it explains the price gap. You aren't just paying for higher-quality metal on a Japanese bike—you're paying for an ecosystem backed by US consumer law.
>>29080551>The dealer shares the legal liability if the front wheel falls off.It would be a cold day in hell the front wheel falls of a Japanese evike, this is actually how jews legally stole the unboxing experience from you and you are too chicken shit to buy NIB (New in box), I bet you wouldn't buy your little 1000$ I phone without a box huh little bitch

good morning /dbt/just got my full license and upgraded from a little 300cc sportsbike to a big 1050 sports tourer. rides beautifully but i had to go interstate to pick it up yesterday and my neck and shoulders are sore all over from riding at 110 for six hours. anything i can do to avoid this? would a new helmet help? or should i just keep going til my neck muscles are strong enough to handle itpicrel, not my bike but same model and colour (i love this thing)

>>29080960Eh, really boring as far as crashes go. Straight 2 lane road 40mph with a center turn lane for the intersection. I could see two cars in the turn lane, and the first one went through with no trouble. I thought to myself "what are the odds this guy just follows and I have to brake?" so I was already slowing down a bit and watching the guy. The guy started edging forward, then stopped, edge forward, stop, so I thought maybe he was just trying to get a better look? (A better look down the straight road, idk) Anyways, dude just decided to crawl through his turn, which means he was fully blocking my lane by the time I was up to him. I tried to avoid him to the right (since I didn't have time to check if the opposite lane was clear or not) and he hit me. Tried to jump from the bike at the last second to avoid getting caught with it (unsure if this made a difference) but the bike got sent over the curb and I flew some down the road. Looks like the guy collided with my engine guard, since that was caved all the way in. I'm sore and have minor road rash, but otherwise no worries. Police deemed the guy at fault at the scene, and I'll deal with insurance in the morning. My pants and jacket wore through and my helmet is cooked, but at least they did their job. Bike is likely totaled. I think the internals of the bike are fine, since it was on when I got back to it and I don't see any leaks, but I haven't tried starting it yet. Shift pedal and clutch lever are fucked, so IDK if I could start it without disassembling stuff anyhow. All things considered, though, I got pretty lucky, so it is what it is.
>>29081039Here is diagram if shit didn't make sense. Bike followed red, I followed blue. I almost avoided him, since I collided with the driver side of his bumper, so the adage of "always speed through an accident" does remain true this time.I wasn't even speeding or anything when the dude turned in, which is the real bullshit. He tried telling the police officer that "he didn't see me until the last minute since I was going really fast" but they were clearly not having that, since the cop laughed as he told me that and that the other guy was deemed at fault. But, hey, that's life for you. I'm sure you all have come to terms that it can happen any time before.

>>29081039At least you're okay, other scrambler guy.
>>29081045>"he didn't see me until the last minute since I was going really fast"That's what drivers always say to try to lie out of it, in reality in my country only 7% of all collisions with a car are because a rider was going faster than the speed limit and 70% because of car's fault. They literally see your always-on headlights 10 meters away, their tiny brain just ignores them. Next time also get dashcams front-back.

>>29081069I always told people that, if I get hit, it won't be because they didn't see me, it'll be them not looking. It was a fucking straight road for a while, there is no way I snuck up on him. I was only hidden because the car in front of him was blocking his view, and he never checked if the road was clear after he could finally see the road. I'll probably look into getting a cam now, but at least the police weren't having any of his story and made it easy for me. I'm sure he'll tell the insurance the same thing, so I'm just hoping they can see the "driver failed to yield right of way and drove into the side of the motorcyclist" and realize he's just being a rat.>>29081086I am clearly ready. how do you attach shit to your bike?i don't want to buy a whole luggage setup or anything but i do want to try motocamping and see what i think of it. i figure i could get everything into a duffel, but how do you secure that to your bike? i was experimenting with a duffel full of towels, ratchet strapped to my passenger pegs, but the bag gradually slips off to one side. i don't want to be constantly stopping to check if my bag is melting on my exhaust. pls advise

>>29081326Cargo net.I know this because I'm going camping tomorrow.I got my tent, sleeping mat, tarp and chair in this bag.
>>29081329It's a neat bike, it just didn't align with what I want from a bike very well. The engine sounds and feels great, but with increased power comes increased fuel consumption. With fuel prices in Europe being what they are, this is a constant stress factor. Add the fact that bigger bikes are geared longer, and that maximum efficiency is achieved in the high gears, it feels like the bike demand you break all speed limits and that's not relaxing for me.Handles fine when riding (you don't even feel the weight once it gets moving), but at slow speeds it's a fucking whale and has a massive turning radius. Having to deal with fairings before and after wrenching is annoying and adds cost when you bring it to the shop. I didn't have the garage space for a car, 3 bikes and a home gym. The car can't go, the other 2 bikes are 500s that are exactly what I want from bikes (nimble, light, naked, almost no electronics, frugal, happy to putter along at 80 km/h).
