There's a Honda NX500 for sale used pretty close to me. I don't know too much about the CB500X/NX500 other than they are kind of like "Halfrica Twins", little half-sized adventure bikes that are mostly for road but you can customize to make for dirt. I'm probably going to be 50/50, so what do you think? I mean it is a hondr no matter what.

Update from previous thread, went up from 38 pilot jets to 40 and 110 main jets to 112. Now it pulls better from low RPM/light throttle, no more flat spot. Plugs are a little darker now but it's not at all fouling them, and the idle quality is improved as well. All in all I'm very happy with it, new exhaust sounds mean, ready just in time for riding weather in Aus.
>>29088230Probably unimportant, but your post means a lost to a carb tuner like myself.

>>29088236I guess I can list everything that got me to this point, just for full context.>old plugs were pretty black, not totally fouled but close to it>had the occasional stumble when accelerating from 1/8th throttle under 2.5k rpm>did valve adjustment (had a few tight ones)>removed and cleaned carbies>original jets were 35 and 108, noted the needles and emulsion tubes were different for the inner two carbies>replaced factory exhaust system with the Dominator one in the pic>airbox mod (drilled a bunch of holes in the filter housing lol)>4 degree advanced ignition timing plate>bench balanced carbies with a piece of paper, which ended up getting 95% of the way there>got it all back together and it still had a bit of a stumble, takeoff from idle wasn't quite good, plugs were showing a bit leanThankfully I was able to get the bowls off to put the bigger jets in without taking removing anything. Also ended up replacing the idle mixture needle screws and putting some grease on the threads for them, that let me dial in the idle a lot better. I've done my time as a car mechanic, we had a workshop dyno and did the occasional bit if tuning on stuff like Holleys and SUs - I figured bikes aren't too different to get dialed in.

I made a post about learning wheelies on my own 800cc bike. Finally I gave up and bought stunting lessons in a nearby town. They provide their own Duke 390, I hope it'll be good.I got two unrelated questions:- Any cool apps to find nice roads in your country? Installed a few ones but the ones I opened are lame.- And is there such a thing as track suit looking bike pants? I'd like some that you can wear and train with at the gym?
>>29088334I am overjoyed to see wisdom has found you anon. Let us know how the stunting lessons went.Ask the other bikers about good roads, they'll know. And no, bike pants are made to stand up to the friction of a paved road against your thigh at 60mph, they will never be comfy gym wear. The best thing you're going to get for mobility is stretchy kevlar jeans.

I have a squeaky brake issue and lever suddenly felt weird. Been told I need to take pads out of calipers, squeeze lever just enough to get the cylinders out, clean everything with a toothbrush + brake cleaner, then apply very thin red grease around the seals. Sounds good?

>>29088364>squeaky brake issue and lever suddenly felt weirdExpand. This sounds like they want you to do a caliper rebuild anon. It's not difficult but you'll have to bleed the brakes as well. Why not try cleaning the calipers, greasing the slide pins and putting some copper slip on the sliding surfaces of the pads before you do all that?
>>29088341>I am overjoyed to see wisdom has found you anon. Let us know how the stunting lessons went. Thanks anon, yeah I'll let you know. > hey will never be comfy gym wearWell, it doesn't even need to be comfy, just comply to the style of gym wear so I'm not that guy who comes and train in jeans. >>29088364When I rebuild calipers, I just put a little bit of brake fluid on the seals to get them on.
>>29088374Oh no i won't actually take the cylinders out, just make the protrude a bit and clean them.Noticed it coming back from a ride where i heard a strange sound and felt like lever had less pressure. Went somewhere the next morning and had same issue, no fluid leaking and noise went away after riding slowly.

Looking VFR800 at a marketplace starting 2005 and sorted by lowest price they all have like 25k-40k km on them and occasional 60k. When I do the same for BMW GS's they all start with 60k km for the lowest priced ones and for beyond 100k.Apparently anon hating VFRs is correct nobody ACTUALLY rides them touring bikes, people just love owning them in their garage for some reason.

Recommend me please a first beater bike for this fall and early spring, so I can use it to gain some experience after the driving school and not destroy my dream bike right away. I got a full A category, so it needs to be 400cc+/50hp+ with at least two cylinders, plus ABS. Also I will need to sell it, so old unpopular bikes probably will not be good.

I will get my girlfriend to hold the feeler gauge when i redo this to make sure i am not tightening and loosening a million times. All in all a gpod learning experience. I rate 7/10 and hope to improve.
There's a Pan America near me for 9K, I am so fucking tempted. I do not like Harley products, however: That is an underrated bike.
why isn't there a le mons-like race series for bikes? 8-hour endurance race with a 30 minute break in the middle, buy a ratty bike for $200, fix the brakes and the fire hazards, get a full set of certified gear and you're good to go. solo only, no mechanics, you both ride and fix shit, refuelling included.
>>29088970>Just find an actual foid maneven the bike thread is a constant reminder of my loneliness and ineptitude as a functional human being god I wish I could kiss my bike and she would turn into a beautiful princess like the story with the frog but I tried it and got paint around my mouth
>>29089587MotoGP really isn't that popular. Not compared to cars. There are Enduro races like that which are off-road, but there's a much lower audience for a touring race.
>>29089587It actually seems pretty stupid that Harley doesn't sponsor something like this since they should clean the floor for cruisers but the problem in general is that almost every sportsbike CEO is an out of touch boomer selected because they were friends with someone and not because they have creative ideas. I like Yamaha's CEO but he is fine with things the way they are because his bikes win every race.
>>29088930have you heard of our lord and savior cfmoto?
>>29088930saarSAAARRConsider Royal Enfield for cheap, reasonable build quality, silly but funny aesthetics. Do not buy these bikes or CFMoto bikes second hand. Always buy Japanese or German bikes second hand. >>29088879>>29088930>>29088679We have some funny posters who will tell you to go with their brand loyalty till the end even if it's not for you or in your budget. Best to ignore them. The best bike is the one you can find that you are most likely to ride and afford. VStrom is a pretty renowned beginner bike because it's a very cheap V-twin. Which typically have very forgiving power curves while also being extremely durable with very promising performance. Really, the only downside for a beginner is the fact that it is not a light bike. It says adventure but it's still a 500 lb bike. It is made primarily for touring. Think sitting your ass on a seat for 6+ hour rides. Start and stop in the city may be intimidating for that reason for a beginner. That said, in terms of touring or adventure bikes, it's the most forgiving of them all.
>>29089609Oh and remember, the new Vstroms, the 800s, are not V-Twins. They are Parallel twins

Alright, anon, what are your thoughts on the z650rs? I was looking for bikes that I could buy with just the insurance check, and it seems to fit what I'd like as far as looks/power/ride type goes. I see a lot of "it is dull" comments, but I also see a lot of people saying it is their favourite bike, so I'm not really sure what the takeaway is. I enjoyed the scrambler, but I did end up riding on highways more than I expected, and a little more power really would have helped there (and I don't want to spend the money on any of the big scramblers atm.) I was also looking at a gsx8-t (which would cost me a bit more than the check), and there is an older rninet nearby that my buds want me to take a look at.I'm going to keep looking around myself, but wanted to consult the brain trust as well>>29089512>he didn't ask if I was okay or somethingI often think about stopping to help people trying to fix cars on the side of the road, but I'm always nervous that I won't be able to help the. "Oh, damn, I don't have my tools with me so there isn't anything I can do. Guess I'll be going now" That situation freaks me out. So, maybe the harley guy was really friendly but just a bit autistic and socially awkard
Total fucking newfag here. Do we respect moped riders? Are we brothers? When I was a carcuck I always looked down on moped riders even when I thought actual bikers were cool, now I like moped riders just because they're one less car on the road but they do seem to be browner on average than motorbike riders>>29089675Cute Hikari btw

>>29089678Daily /n/obike General
It calls to me, I can feel it.Why would I ever even bother to buy anything else?
>>29089678>. Do we respect moped riders? Are we brothers? It depends.e-bike faggots are always faggots moped riders CAN be cool. It really depends on the type and the reason they're riding it. Scootbros are bros except the 50cc ones. Remember, DUI licenses mean that anything above 50cc is outlawed but not at or below depending on the state. So most of the 50cc moped/scooters you see are drunk/DUI drivers with suspended licenses. They do not deserve respect.
>>29089361Seafoam was just to see if it improved. You need a full carb clean. That means taking it off, maybe shipping the carb off since you probably shouldn't work on a carb if you can't identify carb problems, and seeing if that improves. That acceleration stall from a light is it becoming so rich that it chokes when you dump throttle into it. Second thing to check are your air filters. idk which bonneville you have but the T120s use a screen that's on the bottom of the throttle body. The older ones use the cartridge type air filters. Check the entire airway passage to the carb to ensure you're also getting proper airflow. Running too rich may have also fouled the spark plugs, worth a look if you have the time.
>>29089716Seafoam is a great solution to troubleshoot. Same with gumout.
>>29089722looks like a pig, get it
Someone took my half-cover off to look at my bike. I only know because they put it on backwards. I'm not upset because they didn't do anything to it, only reason I even have a cover is to keep bird shit off of it. It made me question how many times it happens though, because there are a lot of times it's not on correctly and I never know if it's me or not. I just hope it's not people who see my bike do something stupid on the road and confirming that it's me. Thanks for reading my blog.
>>29089744>Someone took my half-cover off to look at my bike.kill themif not doing that, then the low-tech answer is to tie a piece of twine or rope over and around the bike + cover in a knot that only you know how to make, such as a bowline knot. The kind of drug-addict who is scoping out people's bikes isn't going to know how to make decent knots. Classic anti-theft system. Thieves will always try to case your bike before stealing it and this gives you advance knowledge if someone has taken the cover off that you can tell from a glance by just looking at the knot. Only problem is: Since you caught them this time, they have now cased it. So you should invest in more proactive security measures like the beepers, airtags kept under battery trays, and disc locks.
>>29089572Harley makes really good bikes, you "don't like Harley products" because boomers are annoying. The Pan America is excellent, I think, and I've ridden them all now, either the best or the second best large adventure bike.

nobike new here, middle aged portly gentlemen, not much over 300 pounds. Looking for first bike - test rode the Ninjer 650 and it felt really good, but the got comments from the guys like "it's a girls bike", "it's ok, but you are too fat for it" and so on. Any recommendations? I'm bearded, fat and middle aged, last thing I need in my life is a cruiser to complete the stereotype.
>>29089769I would put it over the GS1300 personally, but I very recently rented a GSA for not quite 1000 miles in 2 days and it's a better paved and gravel road tourer imo. It's also ten thousand more dollars in real life vs bogus bmw base msrp, but credit where it's due. I was flabbergasted by how different it felt from the non adventure GS. Speaking of BMW, the Burgerking edition M bikes in green look amazing. Really good looking special edition.
>>29089782First lose weight okay, got that out of the way. the "guys" need to fuck off. they aren't riding your bike. I am going to guess those "guys" are the people trying to sell you the bike. Am I right? If anyone has any interest in the money you spend on the bike, they are the last people you should be listening to when it comes to the bike YOU want to ride because dealers, showmen, group riders, all of them are in a scam to make people spend the most on a hobby you may not even enjoy. I ride a KLR650, slow pig nobody thinks is speedy or maneuverable, nobody shittalks the KLR650 despite it being a way less powerful bike. Get the Ninja 650 and enjoy yourself if that's what you want, anon. The person you buy the bike for is you.
>>29089789Thanks anon. I'll send a message over marketplace to them and see if they respond. I'm in the market for an adv-tourer and just never considered it an option because I always figured I could get cheaper touring/ADV bikes. But 9K is a hard deal to beat on a 20K bike
>>29089792Nah surprisingly the sales person was super distant and just let me test drive the thing. The "girl" comment came from a younger rider I know and the "fat - you need something more substantial" came from my instructor so I thought he must know game.
>>29089799> The "girl" comment came from a younger rider biketok zoomers can be rightfully ignored >"fat - you need something more substantial" came from my instructorNow that's surprising, they're usually the ones trying to keep new riders from buying over 600cc bikes. For good reason: Once you cross 1000cc, the accident statistics jump substantially. https://www.iihs.org/research-areas/fatality-statistics/detail/motorcycles-and-atvs#motorcycle-type-and-engine-sizeWe call them "Squids" because they leave big black marks on the road when they crash. People who buy sport bikes and ride way too fast as beginners are endemic among every crash and fatality statistic on motorcycles. Here's the truth though: The Ninja650 has 68 horsepower. There is no size short of being too fat to roll out of bed in the morning that is going to stop it from going ~100 at a brisk speed. An instructor should know that. 650s are a break point for motorcycle engine sizes for a reason: they're more than enough to accommodate everyone and do it in every category. That sales guy sounds like a bro tho. Rare type to simply back off and let people do their business and make their decisions.

My little SL70 project has come to a grinding halt. The issue with the brakes not working turned out to be a broken brake arm on the front drum, and a brake arm that doesn't fit on the splint on the rear drum. After taking apart the rear drum, I noticed this y*maha logo. Apparently the previous owner just threw on whatever garbage he had lying around and attempted to make a farm bike, failing miserably because the rear sprocket situation is also incorrect, and the rear tire rubs on the swing arm.

>>29089818They had electrical problems. My local HD quotes under 1000 for full replacement with factory parts, the upgrade is backwards compatible. The kick stand thing I haven't heard of, I don't think that's correct off hand... The electricals were definitely a problem though. None of the rev max engines hold their value, and it doesn't make any sense. I know for a fact none of my local dealers have many problems, and people are pushing 100 at the wheel from the nightster with a tune, 150 from the sportster, which has the same size engine as the pan america, 175+ from the pan am. Why are bikers speeding in cities? I don't mean speeding by 5 mph like everyone does but speeding by 30-80 mph. Can't they just go on rural roads with no pedestrians?

Most tank slapper crashes happen after your hands come off the bars and you lose balance falling off. Or veering off the road while the tank slapper is happening. The idea that you can have any control of the throttle once it gets bad is fuddlore best thing you can do is either lay on the tank to keep balance once your hands come off the bars or if they dont keep your weight off the bars trying to balance squeezing the bike with your knees.
>>29090348You are dumb as nails. You should buy the ability to think from Sam Altman since you don’t have it yourself. Your stance against AI is poorly thought out, disconnected from reality, and worse, extremely Reddit. >>29090409You need to gently load the front while getting off throttle. The problem with wobble is every wobble adds energy. You need net energy to be negative, and you do that my gently loading the front, increasing friction, and getting off the throttle, decreasing total system energy. Although if you can power wheelie the throttle can fix the problem.
