what makes it so good?
>>
-Goes to negative camber when compressed so it can be designed to hold maximum contact patch on outside tires
-Compresses well and quickly on turn-in, you sometimes want to steer a little, let the suspension settle, and then go all in. You don't want to deal with it bouncing back on you.
-Maccas tend to be bouncy, they don't settle as well so cornering isn't as consistent and smooth. If you mash the throttle at the wrong time in a maccas car it can upset the car's balance. If you drive RWD you'll notice this more, you want consistency.
-It absorbs bumps on the street well, my miata is a lot more comfortable on the road than my wrangler (for example).

>>
>>29104575
Based, I dunk on MccyDs cost cutter deluxe suspensions as well, nice to see we are driving things forward.
>>
In this order
Durability
Simplicity
Adjustability

Multilink is getting more common and it will offer more precise adjustments, but in turn it almost exclusively require specialized machines to achieve that precision. No suspension setup can really compete with bones in durability and simplicity.
>>
>>29104588
But please add the downside of packaging requirement. GT3 with wishbones has zero luggage space
>>
>>29104743
>Muh trunk space
The real killer of wishbones.
Fuck trunk space in a sport compact.
>>
>>29104744
>Fuck trunk space in a sport compact.
Agreed for a track weapon. But most people have multiple uses for their car, especially if they can only afford one.
Don't forget that packaging also affects front-engined cars, with structure required to support the lower pivot points, the upper pivot points (all of which need to react a load towards the car centerline) and possibly the spring & shock upper mounting points
>>
>>29104749
I was born in the '80s. I can fit a shocking amount of stuff in an NA/NB. I've mostly only had a miata or maybe an Integra. Desktop, monitor, guitar, amp, and a lot of clothes, it fits. It's not like trunk space matters.
I choose my car for how it drives. That's it. I'm not into having a big house and such, you don't actually need it. If you like cars, having a smaller trunk to have a good suspension isn't a big deal.
Picrel has wishbones on all 4 yet is a famous car for being utilitarian. It'd be considered a compact today for sure. How'd that happen?
>>
>>29104756
You're missing the point completely. All designs involve compromise.

True, the '89 Civic had twin wishbones, but if you look at the length of the upper wishbone and of the upright, (pic rel) it's not exactly an F1 set-up, or even a 1970's Triumph Spitfire and I wonder about the real-world benefits over a strut.

And a Civic today would be a sub-compact. They went strut in 2001
>>
>>29104756
>>29104770
(cont)
Pic is a Mk3 Spitfire from the 1970's - now that's what you call double wishbones
>>
>>29104770
I fully understand that a Civic’s wishbones aren’t ideal.
I’ve designed suspensions in CAD and made the suspension by myself for my unit’s FSAE car that I drove.
In terms of production cars, it’s better than the alternatives, every time.
>>
File: IMG_0388.jpg (27 KB, 400x267)
27 KB JPG
>>29104780
The only reasons not to have bones are saving $25 a car or trunk space.
My last car was a base 5spd Impreza. It would’ve been garbage without those rear wishbones. Yeah it took up trunk space, but how much do you really need?
Picrel, how much space do you really lose?
>>
File: 44682766.jpg (168 KB, 1024x768)
168 KB JPG
>>29104784
And that rear suspension design actually saves room over the inverted strut the previous gen Impreza/legacy/forester used due to the upper half of the strut/spring intruding high into the cargo area.
>>
>>29104775
Ahem....
>>
>>29104814
>Ahem....
Yes, very good. Now think about context - I was offering the Spit as a comparator to the '89 Civic. You posted an image of a double wishbone set up that is materially inferior to the 1970's solution in that it seems to use a flexible rubber bush as a top link rather than a ball-joint.
>>
>>29104770
Alfa Romeo also used that setup, Audi too. It's a good way to do it given the packaging constraints of a modern car.
>>
>>29104823
No. Thats a balljoint.
They can be press-fit, screw-in or use c-clip retainers.
And the previous suspension setup is from a pinto btw.

>>
Quick reminder that if the car has donald's struts it's designers meant for it to be a cheap rental car.
>>
>>29105692
At the very least they didn't care enough about you having a nice driving car in order to not sacrifice the fucking suspension to keep costs down, Honda back in the 90s would strip out A/C, power windows, the fucking radio, the side mirror, rims, painted door handles, storage compartments, but they wouldn't sacrifice the fucking double wishbone suspension, and yet you have rather expensive fucking cars that don't have it being sold as not only decently equipped daily drivers, but even enthusiast cars like the FT86 don't have it, it's all Crosstek partsbin shit.

Then objectively, you are looking at the wrong segment. And hence bones on both front and back are reserved for cars built for a very specific purpose.

Subjectively, I never understood the luggage thing. I can pack 2 people worth of camping equipment or go grocery shopping for 2 just fine in my Miata. Anything bigger like ikea trips, you either rent a uhaul or have them deliver because the typical SUV isn't going to fit any furniture in them either let alone any GT cars regardless of its suspension setup.

Oh no looks like I found another retard!
The way to make mcdonalds gain camber is to run the control arm at the correct angle, just like every other suspension needs the arms to be set up at the correct angle, which every manufacturer does.
>>
>>29105731
The manufacturers set it to their desired rate and they could easily increase it if the wanted to, but you're too much of a brainlet to understand how that works.
>>
>>29105736
Yeah, you can do the same shit with ricey ass camber plates, but then your wheels are cambered, a double wishbone suspension is perfectly flat when the car is just cruising and it will gain camber like crazy when the suspension deflects, that's what being dynamic is, Anon.

I have a strap in the trunk of my accord that clips onto bith sides of the latch to hold the trunk lid down. I was driving and saw a big rocking chair on the curb so I stopped and grabbed it. Slid it 2/3rds the way into the trunk and attached my strap and went on with my day.
Would it have been easier if I had been driving my pickup? Sure.

I actually get the Deluxe Quarter Pounder from Maccas. Big mac is their flagship so I said that. I don't think I've even had a big mac.
I get this deluxe QP and 50% of the time there isn't even tomato, which is what I choose it for. It's always dry with almost no ingredients, just beef and bread. Their whole day menu is bread with a little bit of meat.
I get a whopper and it's fucking loaded with toppings, nice lettuce, green lettuce, real onion, juicy tomato cuts and enough sauce. Very rarely does bk shaft me like mcd, it's happened but not often. They actually resemble the ad pics.
Maccas hasn't had good borgers since ~2010 when they had 1/3rd lb angus borgers.
