You have a seized piston and/or too much fluid in the front brake system. Fix this IMMEDIATELY before it kills you.

It turns and battery is OK, on a tender. I found out the left carburetor was disconnected from the choke and i got that fixed but no dice.
Tomorrow is the day for me too, i’m going to:
>pull the plugs, check for fouling and crank the engine a couple times with the wheel to clear out any gas
>wait, then do it with the starter to check for spark
>pull and examine the carbs
>check/adjust the valve head clearance
>do a compression test
>change the oil/filter/related gaskets
Good news is the bike is clean and appears well maintained, i assume the problem is something stupid like a plugged jet or a deteriorated gasket in the carburetor.
Worried it’s going to be
>do all that, still have low compression due to cylinder heads are fucked, need to pay $3k for total engine rebuild or $1600 parts and try to do it in my driveway
I rode it about a hundred miles on saturday.
>>
>>29124509
idk why my pic is sideways?
Anyways, the front locks up but it's not immediate. That would be terrifying. It starts heating up and the friction builds and builds until moving the bike is impossible, even in 1st. Then wait like an hour for it to cool down and get moving again. Sad part is my mechanic already "fixed it"
Bike was sitting for 15 years, what can you do

>>29124576
For the SV1000 and Vstrom 1000 engine there are two things:
1. The charging system rotor magnets can come unglued and migrate around the rotor to the heaviest point, creating imbalance as well as not being nice to the charging system electrically. This can be fixed DIY, no parts, just some kind of high heat JB weld. Stromtrooper will have a detailed guide.
2. The infamous clutch basket. I believe the sv1000 and vstrom 1000 use different clutch baskets, BUT, if they are compatible, there's a good chance the 1050 clutch basket (2023 or so?) drops in, and THAT is supposed to be the fix.

Yeah i know ive read abouth it. Im currently planning to fix the magnets with JB weld fixing them in place. But the gearbox there is some discussion abouth in the SV forums, since yes you can replace the OEM gearbox for the vstrom one, but it is doubtfull it will stand the force the SV1000 throws at it.

Finding your size with things like racing suits is almost out of the question unless you ride a r3, fz6, or now triumph 765
Theres a couple of options for used gear
1) mx gear like pads and chest protectors are pretty universal fit under minimal clothes
2) leatherdaddy stuff tends to be ovwrsized and hardly ever worn outside of a roadtrip for the boomer wife- good for ladies i guess
3)used boots are gross but thats easy savings on 75%+ upfront retail costs, clean them good and its fine who cares
4)helmets expire and you never know what hit em/dropped em; unless i know the nobike bought it the same year he sold he and never rode on it, Ill just pass on these offers
4) riding jeans are a meme which only last about a year or two actual riding and abuse, you will contract handlebar herpes on a highside and they offer no testicle protection
5)textiles are likewise a useless meme and synthetic fabrics will dissolve and melt into your skin during abraison slides etc.
6) bare minimum you want/need is helmet boots and gloves- leather jack not that far off from obtanium within the same budget
7)airbag vests are cost effective, very useful, and underrated as much as expensive- this and a helmet will be the one piece of gear actually saving your ass
8)gloves are disposible, dont get fixated on cost, get mechanix impact gloves for $30 and upgrade to motogp gauntlets if youre going speeds above 120kph regularly
9)if you buy a cheap blank aolid colour helmet, you will inevitably take the stiggerpill with all that free real estate: add at least $200 in stigger costs to the price of a blank helmet, otherwise buy one with bold new colors and forget you even knew what a sticker was after
10)mx boots are the best, adv boots are a meme which offer no protection in critical areas
11) dress for the slide, not the ride, ATGATT, its all about the respect, ask permission to pass every harley rider
12) dont forget bearmace for shitbulls and/or a 9mm with 21+1 hollowpoints
>>

I cant believe i double 4-posted and fucked up the count

Anyways, to add some anecdotal experiences to the list regarding brands and some niche things:
I really like revvit gear and especially their gloves; its a good mid tier option for affordable quality, but some of their adv and racing leather stuff can be on the luxury side
And since im impartial/ignoring textiles for my riding gear, the only exception to that i would make is a klim suit since you can find those used and cheap easily, and aerostich monosuits because theyre the exception rather than the norm, buy one for 2k that lasts you a lifetime philosophy
Motorcycle hoodies is also a meme, past 150kph that shit flaps and is an annoying turbulent shitshow in a tuck, avoid other loose bits of shit on your garments also
I have no experience with heated gear outside of heated grips which is all you really need for those frisky temps, hippo hands another good addon worth the investment if you need em
And at any rate, if youre destined to crash and its at the point of the unavoidable mental calculations; lowslide with intent and ride your 'ku like a surfboard; this is the easiest way to avoild lowslide injuries- as for highsides; either you have an airbag vest or you aim for the sheepfold of plush squishy comfort and not fencepost impaling doom timelines

The 2016 MEA study proved that helmets never expire.
The study was of old used bicycle helmets, which are of course made of the same materials that motorcycle helmets are.

I don't know what the other two anons problem is, but you can absolutely get a 125cc pitbike with the Chonda clone motor in it that will never die and just put street tires on it. Don't expect any country to ever let it have street-legal plates, though. You would be better off just getting a Lifan with the same motor.

https://bartmotoco.com/products/lifan-125cc-kick-start-semi-auto-full-kit-motor-only

Compare to
https://arlingtonpowersports.com/icebear-ax125-pad125-v2-125cc-yx-pit-bike-with-electric-start-oil-cooler/

$350 125cc motor only adds about $900 when you slap a whole bike on it.

If you're willing to upgrade a little more out of the dirt poor turdie territory into some real Cheap Bastard territory, have a look at some of these.
https://www.belmontebikes.com/collections/lifan-motorcycles-1

The 200-250cc bikes are based on another Chonda motor they've been cloning since honda quit making it in the 80s. It's in this picture. LIfan gets theirs from Zongshen. Pretty reliable motor overall because nothing on them really breaks. You just have to follow the break-in instructions and you'll have a motor that, if it blows up, only costs $500 on aliexpress to replace.

Now some people are going to shit and scream (probably the two others who replied to you) and demand you buy a used Japanese bike. If you can get a used Japanese bike of similar horsepower for $2,000. Then sure, but I can tell you that if there is a used bike of any kind of $2,000 then you probably don't want it because it'll require a load of work to get to the state of these new Chinese bikes.
>>

I don't wear special bike jackets. I just layer clothing until I'm warm enough. Usually once it's really cold I have a hoodie, thermal jacket, and denim outer layer for a bit of protection. I'm not too concerned with sliding since the road is less likely to rip you apart in the cold and all the layers offer some protection. It gets around -10 here in the winter and it's done me good for years now. The big thing is your gloves. It's a lot harder to keep your hands warm than your body.

>>29125766
These chinese are unable to understand engineering beyond aesthetics. Everything they make starts to make sense once you understand this. Metal looks like metal so it's okay if it's pot metal. Everything looks like it fits together so the tolerances must be good. The bike looks vaguely like a honda so it must be as good as a honda.

when Changs started to do PTwin scooters & motorcycles of OKAY quality - the price immediately started to approach Japanese & European counterparts.
>>
>>29125786
You could argue this if they had ever made anything exceptional but they never have. They make disposable garbage because it's the best they can do. They cannot understand why their stuff is worse and even when they lie the lies fall short of where japanese bikes actually are.
>>
Chinks make scooters for decades at this point. Do you know a single chink model surviving till today, like any Japanese model has?

>They make disposable garbage
You wanna talk about the plague of microliter turbo engines eurofags do for cars chasing the emissions & noise regulations, and how tiny their resource is?

I'm not saying chink tech is great, I'm saying your reason for it being shit is wrong and stupid. It's just cost cutting at every corner. And there's no reason for them to stop because average consumer would rather have their car/bike cheap than expensive.

"Made in Italy" is basically a meaningless mark. Italian law says that just the last step has to be done in Italy to qualify. So many high end clothing brands claim to be made in Italy because they're able to manufacture the complete item in Bangladesh and then just stitch the label on in Italy to get the mark. It also allows them to dodge tariffs because Italian clothing faces lower barriers worldwide. It's nothing like "Made in USA" which requires "all or virtually all" of the item to be manufactured and assembled in America.

Btw I have no dogs in this game but as an eternal browser of used listings I consistently see Guzzis of all kind for sale with high mileage (eg v7s with 50k miles and v85s with over 70k). Only other brand with higher mileages is BMW.
Are they using more chinese critical parts than other manufacturers, and if so does it really have an impact on long term durability?
With that being said I do remember reading stories of some guzzis coming out of the assembly line as lemons. Amd again only other manufacturer with the same kind of issues appears to be BMW.

The 4 cylinder is gonna feel a lot smoother but the Ptwin has very even power delivery and great low end torque. A ptwin is also a lot lighter and cheaper to manufacture. Also easier to work on just by merit of having less cylinders and less moving parts.

Pretty much. The biggest difference is that the inline 4 is gonna pick up a lot more at the high end where riding is most dangerous and the ptwin is gonna die off around that point. The ptwin is also a lot easier to get moving since it has so much low end torque. The ptwin is just gonna be easier to ride as a new rider.

Inline fours have high revving funzone powerbands which take some getting used to
V4 and twins are more linear and their grunt is predictable
Inline 4 will get 6-12k and really scream and kick, nothing else really like it when youre shifting in the middle of it
>>
>>29127039
I feel like 4cyl power opens up at higher revs whereas ptwin torque is linear throughout all range of rpm
>>
>>29127067
Less noticable differences in a triple, more noticable differences in an inline 4
Both relative to twins

650cc pisser is like 50-70 horsepower
Inline 4 600cc is like 90-120horsepower
Way more top end
But the twin will be a gruntier torquer down low and through midrange

A 600cc i4 wont be much of an upgrade unless your riding time was with a restricted motor
Itll be a faster topspeed and crusing but not much difference other than that high powerband that takes getting used to

>sideswiped on freeway in merge
>45-60 mph
>no idea if other driver stopped, I ran and fell on the side of the road and got taken by ambulance
>bike def totaled
>left hospital hour ago
I still have all my limbs and was able to walk out of the hospital with some goofballs though, thankfully I only have some swelling and minor road rash on my hand
I'll be depressed and sore tomorrow though, esp if the driver ran off

I gotta get some tank pads so it can really stretch its legs, this thing loves cornering between 45-85mph though
I reckon when I get a full new set of tires it'll feel at home everywhere though, really gotta get some luggage set up to make this thing livable

There is a point, if you survive long enough you might respect someone doing something absurd on a lower CC bike, than what someone on a high CC bike might do.

>>
>>29127656
On the highway? You can't go under 115kph on the highway. You'd have to take a 100kph or 80kph side road.
Otherwise you'd get killed.
The solution is just to fully countersteer against the wind

How come you won "2 world wars"
>>
>>29127661
Dude, the average speed of a 110kph highway is 120kph.
I'm not worried about the oil field worker doing 140kph in his F350
I'm worred about the indian in his Altima doing 3 kph above the limit with no regard for life or anything because my government decided 3rd worlders are human

>>
>>29127664
I keep saying kph, I'm not American, I'm Canadian.
And yes, our government protects immigrants from their action to keep their immigration status.
Even if it means white families must die as a result.
>>
>>29127666
ok why are you talking kph when the guy in the video is doing mph? he's doing like 80mph when he gets blown off, gets back on the road and goes back to 77mph. I'm saying he should go 50mph if he literally just got blown off the road. Fucking leaves man
>>
>>29127663
Yeah I already know americans are reckless
>>
>>29127670
>ok why are you talking kph when the guy in the video is doing mph?
Because I'm not American...
Is MPH/KPH conversion not a commonly taught thing in your country?
>I'm saying he should go 50mph if he literally just got blown off the road
And I am/was saying that you cannot do that on a highway.
>>
>>29127674
No I don't care about kph because in the UK we use mph. Here you can go 50mph on a motorway because trucks are limited to 56mph so it's not uncommon to see slower than that.

If you just got blown off a road and then feel you have to go the same speed you just got blown off at, otherwise you'll be hit by a truck, that's pretty retarded desu. You don't ever have cars going that speed to save fuel?
>>
>>29127679
Okay well I'd say highway 1 and 2 have a philosophy of railways. You cannot go below the speed limit, only below.
In the video, he is for sure on a main highway.

It's why I rarely take the highway. I can barely got 100kph let alone the highway limit.
>>
Why even have speed limits on highways if "eveyone does 10 over for safety".
10 over what, the other guy? Ends up wiith everyone going 200mph down the lane, might as well just ditch the limits
>>
>>29127694
Congrats on understanding why nothing makes sense.
And why there's no reason highway 1 isn't an autobahn
>>
>>29126779
I bought a modular for that but ended up kinda hating it for riding. Airflow is bad so glasses fog easy. Pinlock works though.
I am honestly considering a clearance helmet to just ride without fogging and for better protection.
>>
>>29127453

>>
>>29127633
when I saw him approaching that trailer from behind while already having to lean the bike, I knew that he had no clue what he was getting into.
>>
>>29127656
Nah he can still go the same speed. Don't overtake giant bricks moving judiciously down the road at that speed, is the trick. The backwash from that trailer is what threw him off-road + the wind. Not the wind in general. Backwash can grab your bike and take you in any direction away or toward the center of the vehicle in front of you. It will push you away if you're next to it, pull you toward it if you're behind it.

If you’re in high crosswinds a truck will be driving slower than a motorcycle because they are also under a heavier tipover risk
>t. Rode 38-40mph on a country highway for about an hour during a harsh windstorm twice now
The whole “and get hit by a truck?” Thing is a ridiculous fear from people who don’t ride enough

Liberty Media bought MotoGP a year or two ago and wants to turn it into F1 with bikes so they're moving to Adelaide for a city street circuit next year
they're also dedicating more time each weekend to sprints and made more media circus shit mandatory for the riders, can't wait for the inevitable drama filled Netflix show just like F1

Just so you know, alberta's QE2 was where i exploded my crf450rl's piston q5 mins out of leduc lmao

Also, if the cross winds are so bad youre being blown into the highway median grass divider, you just might be going too fast and not countersteering and leaning into the wind enough
>>

Will do for next time. I was definitely within my comfort zone on the way to the event, at least. Its just unfortunate that it got dark really fast because otherwise I would have kept up with no issues.
