I want to talk about carrying shelter and water on a bicycle and starting with a plan, not a dream.

Stopped being neet after rewatching KLK and realizing I wasted my youth/20s. That’s fine, life isn’t over. Bought a road/gravel bike, got some biking sites and chatgpt for route suggestions, it’s time. Gonna see everything lower 48 state on my own power. I could never do this as a poor min wage wagie saving up for a cagie, but I can just do it now. So I did actually, I’m two or so counties over from where I started.

Now wot? Have any other anons lived the drifter life? How do I find good stealthcamp spots so cops don’t burn my tent and retard tweakers dont do me like kevin nash in the summer of 92?
>>
>>2820483
Have fun bro, it's going to be way more awesome than you imagine.

t. Bike hobo
>>
Good on you. Tell us more.

We all have at least the potential to make more money in the future, we can never go back and recapture time that is now gone.

What if you get too cold?

What if tweakers attack your tent with a baseball bat?

What if you get tired?

How will you pay for food?

Where will you store all the toilet paper you need on long routes?
>>
what? have you been on tour for in countries already and are planning to go to the US?
>>
>>2820496
oh COUNTIES nevermind. dont rely on chatgpt for route suggestions would be my first advice, actually put in the effort to learn and research the places you're visiting, it'll be more fun and you'll get to more interesting places. never wild camped in the US but prioritize sneaky above nice. not all camp spots are gonna be magical with great views. actually a lot of the time on a very long tour they are just gonna be places to sleep.
>>
>>2820499
Yeah chatgpt sucks ass, I swapped it for some other websites that show water sources and some nice bike paths. I’m just circling the cities and areas I know first, getting a feel for having my ass pounded by the seat, hoping i get used to pain and hunger before i set off into the Unknown Unknowns. I also have a small dilemma of wanting to learn more about new areas with research and prep beforehand vs. the feel of discovery and pleasant surprise. Hard to balance the two.

>>2820491
sleeping bag+jacket+staying in southern states come winter, i suppose

then I’m fucked, I am not a karate master, thats why stealth camping is the only possible option when in or near cities. Cities are just unfriendly towards homeless there’s no way around it

so far, on Test Day Number 2, I have to say, I think getting tired is just gonna be a constant. feel like the walking dead.

no idea im broke, spent my last monies on the damn bike

i have a small bag that has tp+wipes+bidet cap for water bottle on it. Panniers wouldve been legendary, but the ortlieb ones I wanted were 120 at REI and I don’t have 120

turns out cycling with 40 Pounds Of Shit is pretty fucking hard jesus christ. didnt even go uphill any and im destroyed

if im going to be doing this big homeless adventure i might as well start a jewtube and use the laptop to edit. need to dump a few jackets, raincoats and i think my spare pair of boots. the cooking pan too.

Best of luck. How old are you currently? I myself wasted my youth jerking off, ERPing, coasting on grades, and not really caring about getting involved in anything. Wish I could say fuck it like you have and just go explore. What state are you starting out from?
>>
>>2820483
Based, this is always a fallback for me if everything else in life goes to shit. One of my good friends was really into bike packing and I wish I went along with him before he passed away. I might do some motocamping on my little 250. The main thing for me is it really fucking hurts my ass riding motorcycles or bikes. Definitely getting a padded seat or those padded butt underwear for bicycling those help me a lot. Definitely start a youtube and let us know. I will watch.

Extremely early 30s in AL. Land is extremely flat but extremely hot and will only get worse as summer gets going, triple digits are a given. Your 30s and 40s are your last chance to have fun and explore before nkt being able to. I am a fat fuck but losing weight every day. yesterday I even didn’t jiggle when I jumped, and my moobs are all gone. only 40 more pounds till I’m in the 100s, its never too late bro just get a 200 dollar tent and ramen and go

>>2821847
I had to sell my 2nd laptop that I was using for editing at a pawn shop for money but that is ok. I will learn on the first shitty one. It is never too late. Every day I hate myself for not doing this earlier yet it quickly gets drowned by loving myself for finally doing it. It is hard and I am very hungry but I am alive.
Please buy a pair of used bike shorts and a padded saddle, they both saved my life because my ass was simply a giant flare of unbearable pain and now i’m big chilling.

doing full diy bikepack build. bike found in the dumpster, no brakes, no gear system (i'll just manually change it if i have to idc) live in ontario so shit is just mainly flat country roads.

basket build consists of a draining bowl thing, 3 hotdog skewers locked in with hose clamps. 30lbs weights as proof of concept. probably not going to carry anything heavier than that in it.

budged and bought a rear rack and i'm going to rig up some tarps for a frame bag and saddle bag type of thing.

yes it's retarded, yes i'm proud of it and excited to adventure on it.

just got this bad boi for the price of free.99 so planning to kit it out to bikepack. im employed currently, but i forsee a major calamity on the horizon (next year for sure, its been too long) so been looking into the vagrant life style. maybe fuck around and pedal my ass up north, then west. maybe end up in alaska, who knows. gonna try to get a go pro and make some videos, get a channel going. ifd i can pull down a couple grand a month off videos and patreon, get a sponsorship, i could probably ride till i die on the side of some backroad.

It’s not technically “wise”, but it’s my only option, I feel. I already waited 4 years for the government to deny my SSDI application. Nobody is hiring for even entry level jobs doing dirty laundry at a hotel or wageslaving at goddamn Amazon Warehouse. This is the play, mang. I’m going to travel to every single state without paying for gas. There HAS to be a job out there somewhere that a no-college former NEET can do. Hell I think people seasonally hire shepherds in Arizona or something. Think I heard of some farm work in exchange for pay and room thing somewhere on Plebbit. Not sure what it’s called but that’d be perfect, these past few weeks losing 40 pounds and getting outside reminded me how much I love nature

This is the only way a poor can provide for himself man, I really believe that. Dont have enough for a plane ticket, it’s do this, keep posting on YT, and pray to whoever is listening that it works

>>2822958
From my limited experience and from reading books; this sounds like a good way to get analed. And not from a cute femboy or a hot tranny. Stealth camping is the way man, you never know who’s a tweaker and who’s a traveling raper. Not even joking, I got fooled by the smallest cutest little lady outside a gas station. Alone is the way.

>I already waited 4 years for the government to deny my SSDI application.
Is this federal or do different states have different policies?
>Nobody is hiring for even entry level jobs doing dirty laundry at a hotel or wageslaving at goddamn Amazon Warehouse.
I know.
It is hell.
I face the same issue.
You apply for an entry level job that requires no experience, then they ask you if you have any experience to which you say no. Then they happen to hire someone who happens to have 10 years experience for that role (which pays minimum wage).
This society sucks.

However spending your savings biking around is going to put you into a really deep hole when your money runs out. Are there no recruitment agencies that you can apply to? Have you tried going to a church, community center or volunteer group? Don't get me wrong, I'm not christian, but many of them have food banks which can help you out with food and it's good to have some connections that may help you to get into work.

You can even join groups that are helping "ethnic" or "minority" people. By law they cannot discriminate against other races. Ages ago, I joined a Chinese one, they created a CV for me and helped me get a job, even though I'm not Asian.

PLEASE set aside enough money to buy a bus or plane ticket back to your parents house if an emergency happens. Stay safe out there anon.

You will get over this, my brother traveled far longer than me as a lone wolf and I only recently got him to open up to the traveling communities this last year. There's a lot of very good, if not superior people on the road. I spent a summer camping with a guy named CK who couldn't move without his body being in constant pain. He lived in the spot for about 3 years and had a deal with forestry. As long as you aren't a twink nobody is going to fuck with you, guys have a much safer time on the road. I've been working on a book about my experiences specifically because other people's books are full of bullshit, if I'd recommend one you try Hobo Sapien.

Stealth camp in a tent? Find some bushes and put down the sleeping bag. Always worked for me. Slept in some bushes next to a McDonald's drive thru, in the edge of a train yard, on top of sprinklers next to town hall (who needs an alarm clock?) ninja camping is easy, just don't over think it and wake up with the sun
>>
>>2823466
never know who’s a fucking creep man. Or a thief

And not even other travelers or native homeless, what most scares me is the zogbot pigs. One of then absolutely trashed an old man’s tent in Shelby County for absolutely no reason, guy was “giving him sass” and he felt threatened as a 250+ pound guy with a gun taser and stick, so he destroyed his living space. Consequence-free. I’ve been sleeping in random tree-d spots and behind industrial parks just to get away from humans, man, can’t see myself getting over it and just trusting anyone that smiles at me. We’ll see…maybe….

>>2823465
Federal, you’re thinking of food stamps/EBT as the state by stte thing. Which I could also use, except the registration is months long, and since their methods are outdated, if you go on Plebbit the entire subreddit is filled with stories of people having their benefits stolen automatically as soon as they’re filled, with no refunds or recourse. There is no social safety net in this country.
I have tried all of those things; most church groups only help women and kids OR just want to use homeless for free labor setting up tents in their megachurch parking lot in exchange for one(1) stale Pb/J. at least in my experience, the temp agencies just wanted to take half a minimum wage paycheck which wouldnt even leave me anything to save up long term after food/hygiene costs, and most local community centers/food banks have been closed courtesy of Kay Ivey. Or Reagan. Or going back far enough, the industrial revolution, but suffice it to say if you’re a poor male in america dont think anyone gives two shits about you, race/religion/mental health state are all irrelevant when it comes to poverty.
I do have 300 that I plan to use for emergencies only, but my surviving prent will be meeting Death soon and is in no shape physically or financially to care for a neet anyway. It’s time to take the baby bird route and either fly or die

appreciate the well wishes brother

Anon from >>2822505 here. I'm a piss poor, on welfare 28 year old degenerate here. Idk where you live but the drifter life here is not feasible in the winter. The summers are time to bust your ass. I don't know if you live near farm land - but corn detasseling is a piss easy way to get work and get free rides to and from work at drop off points (they'll put you on the bus with all of the immigrants to pull shit out of cornfields) for like 5 hours a day sometimes more. You can live a drifter life while accumulating funds like this between towns - corn crews are always hiring.

If you're seriously planning to cycle through the entire country then you need to go the fuck back home and spend at least 6 months training. If this is the state you're in pedaling over flat ground in mid-80 degree weather then you're going to be completely fucked going up the very many hills and mountains in the country, or in actual hot weather.
>>
>>2823472
There's no such thing as "native homeless", they're called homebums and they're harmless drug addicts. The only dangerous homebums are in places like Atlanta and New Orleans. You have no business being in those places ever, and should just avoid them. I've never had a bad experience with other travelers and I hitchhiked a whole circuit through the US multiple times. The only dangerous people I've seen have been normalfags and bikers, and they're very easy to avoid. Unless you're some kind of troon or faggot you'll be fine anywhere, you talk like a city slicker and I'd work on that first and foremost.

This. You should be able to breeze 15 miles, or you're off to a very bad start.
>>
>>2824596
Why? The point is to live on the bike not to make × many miles a day to complete line on map in × amount of time
>>
>>2823472
learn to do basic bike maintenance before leaving to your journey
you are gonna have a lot better time if you understand the basics and dont have to rely on mechanics and you save a lot of money in the process
get some spares to carry for the parts that wear or at least figure out what models your bike uses so if it comes down to it, you know what to look for
>>
>>2824598
So your plan is to sit in one general area and be a hobo? Just toss the bike dude and be homeless in a city like everyone else at that point.
>>
>>2824662
If your not riding in a straight line across the country doing at least x many miles a day then you should be homeless in a city? This is what you think? Why can't someone just go 15 miles down the road and spend a week fishing on a river and only do like 60 miles a month going along the river and then go a few hundred miles to somewhere else to do something else?

I'm thinking about doing part of the Appalachian Trail and if I like that, maybe upgrade to bike camping.
Like OP, I basically want to live outside like a bum so my only cost is food.
The question I came here to ask is, do you think it is feasible to do bike camping with an e-bike and have the battery bank in a backpack that I carry into a McDondalds and stealth charge over half an hour to an hour?
I haven't really done my research on ebike battery chargers as you can probably tell, but it seems to me that it would be extremely hard to travel with only man-power especially in mountainous areas.
>>
>>2824684
Listen, behind soda vending machines is a hollow space usually next to an electric outlet, you can put your battery and charger inside this hollow overnight while it's plugged in and it will charge your stuff secretly so you don't have to spend 6 hours inside a McDonald's,also mountains are small, you will have like 7 miles of steep incline at most, you can walk that in three hours with a good break at the halfway point then you just roll down the mountain although I've had headwinds so strong I needed to pedal down mountains before, it's easy stuff especially when you are not pressed for time
>>
>>2824689
>behind soda vending machines is a hollow space usually next to an electric outlet
This is an insane tip, thanks anon. No idea how you discovered this.
I asked chatgpt if I can charge a 1kw battery in under an hour and it said I could with special batteries and a special charger.
Your method seems better, but I don't know if every town has an outdoor vending machine.

I am out of shape, but I’m losing weight daily. I went from a pound a week to 2 or 3 pounds a week and can finally call myself not fat, now. I don’t jiggle when I jump except for under my arms and I no longer have mini-moobs. Highly recommend bicycling to anyone, vagabond-ing it or no.

That said,>>2824667

Also, ebikes are retarded and for lazy losers. Please do not try to larp-travel with a HEAVY, FLAMMABLE battery inside your bicycle because going uphill is hard. It’s gonna be hard no matter what but removing the challenge is just going to cheat yourself. Also ebikes are shit and break within months. Yes, even the expensive ones. I hate non- /out/ larpers. Spend a few werkends first pedaling a normal bicycle and get used to that before committing. I didn’t do that, so the muscle soreness is beating my ass, but it’ll get better slowly over time. Props if you can actually do it long term. I'm a camping hobo myself but I have an old f150. I have 3 different tents for the conditions, a few Walmart tarps and 2 actual good tarps. I carry 5 gallons of propane, 3 different sleeping bags, and a 35 gallon ice chest. Tons of different clothes, a medicine cabinet, you get the picture. I've been downsizing my gear the whole time too, but also expanding for every situation.

I've been living in national forests and BLM land for years and I love it. But I would have lost my mind in the first few months if all I could take is what could fit in a bike pannier and trunk. At this point yes I can live on 2 pairs of pants. But 2 years ago it would have been almost impossible and even now I wouldn't want to do it.

I think it’s pretty cool I would watch your YouTube shit. My favorite channels have been solo sailing fags and van life fags and stuff like this.

I think you should have another angle to it though. Instead of just trying to live a man needs a goal. You should be trying to accomplish something as you travel. >>2824806
a license is not stopping you from being free, you're still on records even without one, the only part that is "unfree" is the price of gas and insurance. good luck biking 4000 miles up and down hill and not finding some other reason that completely halters your progress

Funny enough, no. Everything just looks dreary and it's just abandoned downtown after abandoned city after gas station after crackhouses after abandoned steel mill. Part of that is just Bama, I suppose, but part of it is just being shite at navigation. I have just been recording boring cycling on the side of highway b roll and tent setup/sleeptime so far.

I'm the anon you called a larper.
When it comes to purpose, I am going to make a hobo youtube channel, learn to play a ukulele or charango, and use a tablet to draw at night on comics. I already know how to program so I might also use the godot app on my tablet to make simple 2d pixel games as devlog content for youtube and maybe make some ad money.
The biggest problem with my "gimmicks" is the added weight and need for recharging electronics.
If anyone asks, why not do these in a comfortable house; I have a crippling addiction to doing random shit on my PC and I'm hoping hobo life is such a shock to my system that it's like a full system restore to my psyche. But, I might just have ADHD or something or be a loser.
>anyone here plz brainstorm more "gimmicks" I should try, I would appreciate
>>
>>2825176
>I am going to
This is how you move forward from larp: never say I am going to. That shit fucked with me for years, and I kept putting it off and putting it off and suddenly I wake up and I've spent five fucking years playing league of legends conviniced that I was gonna be the next north american video games superstar. Just do stuff! Go out and start.

Now, as far as tablets, programming and such, you CAN do it, but you're gonna need to buy a few expensive power banks and also be near power outlets, which will limit where you can go, obviously. Probably gonna need to plug into a library or a hotel every 2 or 3 days, so keep that in mind.

Hobo Life, as you call it, is a shock to the system, yes, but it's also not a vacation. There's ticks outside. There's cagie drivers that think every bicycle rider is a target, because they are all retarded and talking to Shelley and Jamie on the phone about their next dunkin donuts trip. And, cant stress this enough, there's no air conditioning on the highway.

Please please PLEASE do an overnight trip in a tent, or 3 days in your local park's campgrounds, before just jumping full in.

I say this cause I jumped full in unprepared, and it's ruff. Do not do that.
If you have the mental fortitude to stick to learning music on a string instrument, as well as the initial capital to buy one, of course, playing music is a GREAT way to make money on the road. You're much more likely to get 20s and 50s thrown at you while playing some stupid boomer ACDC shit then you are just sitting on the exit of a highway holding up a shitty sharpie sign nobody can read anyway.

Best of luck becoming a non-larper my brother

Honestly, I wouldn’t say I even have experience, I haven’t even left my starting state yet. I want to try and be able to do 30-40 miles a day first before I go into real unfamiliar territory. I’m not even close but as long as I have enough inhalers, maybe i’ll get there in a month or two?

As for paths, I’m really disappointed. Every single “bikepacking” youtuber seems to constantly be in nature or on gravel. There’s no decaying urban centers it’s just them and birdsong and trees and greenery. I haven’t been able to find anything but normal roads filled with drivers. If I can avoid an interstate or highway I will, but a couple times it’s taken me too long to find alternate routes, and it starts getting too dark to see, and cant set up my shitty walmart tent, and so i’ve ended up bicycling on the shoulder a few times and being scared shitless every time a tractor trailer goes by at 80 mph. Even railstottrails and adventure cycling say my state has like, ONE transamerican line that goes thru the very bottom of it, but otherwise nothing. very not fun so far.

Where I stealth camp: I stole this method from a youtuber, but basically you go on google maps, you look for green areas, then you switch to satellite and see if the green areas is flat (for the tent) and isolated (so no Karens see you go in there and call the cops).

If it’s not a random forested area it’s behind shopping centers in the loading dock area. I tried sleeping in an abandoned building ONCE but there was superspiders there and I nearly cried when one jumped on my hand as i was taking the tent down. never again

If you're having trouble riding a few dozen miles on flat terrain, you ABSOLUTELY have to work on your posture (besides fitness, of course). Nigger-rigging some aerobars, or simply adding a cushion (i've taped folded-up socks to my bars and it worked well) for your elbows in the middle of your handlebars is the equivalent to adding a supercharger to a car, in terms of the speed buff. Re-arranging your gear for a smaller frontal area would help as well.
Try to be a 90 degree rotated tear drop (pointy side back), your body/wallet will thank you

>lucky
Luck is one thing but you need skill, to have an eye for such things

Also nobody cares that you're a hobo, you must carry yourself respectfully and communicate as such as well. If you're expecting to be a screaming psycho and get things, get a new brain, a hobo is not a screaming psycho, that is a mental patient that America is neglecting. That is not a person looking for freedom. They need help. A hobo is much much different. Do NOT let the world mix these two groups in your mind.

As for long stretches, you need to be in very good shape. You are essentially a hunter gatherer and ought to behave as such. You need a lot of strength and endurance. In Utah/Nevada you can run into 300+ mile areas with no resources, if you can't ride 100 miles per day with a weeks worth of supplies after having studied the area intently, you should not attempt.

Study maps. Study weather. You need to be informed on what you're doing.

There are professional ways to be a hobo.

>tfw applying to jobs 500 miles away a month in advance
>currently doing landscaping in the desert, out working fucking everybody and ride my bike 10 miles there and 10 miles back every day
>try to choose spots within 5 miles of national forest/BLM land and planet fitness and grocery store
>etc

Be smart. It's a hard road but if it chooses you it chooses you. I won't live any other way.

>>

>>
I am not the OP, but this is a good thread, and I don't want it to die, so I'm going to hijack it for its own good.

I was sold a carefree and fun lifestyle by influencers, and I feel cheated.

I got into biking. I gradually taught myself bike mechanics. I bought a wall-mart bike and fixed it up. That bike lasted two years.

I built my dream bike from scratch. I attached panniers and a rear rack. By this point, I've spent thousands on this hobby, including a tent, stove, and sleeping bag.

I love to bike. There's nothing I love more than biking, but I guess I'm a poser, because let me tell you something about bikepacking: It sucks.

Bikepacking sucks. It's the worst part of biking. I slept in the dirt with worms and voracious ticks. My tent one-man sucks, too. Don't buy the Lunar Solo. I'm 5'9" (yes inb4 manlet) and my head and toes rub the walls of the tent and accumulate condensation.

By the way, the solo doesn't come with poles or tent pegs, and you have to seal it yourself! I consider that to be an unfinished product.

I bought an MSR Dragonfly stove. You need to buy an additional grille to put on top of it, and a fuel bottle. It sounds like a jet and I swear it takes 20 minutes to boil water!

Everything is filthy. I wash my titanium pot and long spoon in purified water so that I don't get Giardia. The water is precious and it needs to be conserved, so nothing ever really gets clean.

Bear bags suck. Yes, we have bigass bears around here. You never really find a branch that can fit your bag. You hang your trash, too. Unless you want to go through all the work of hanging two bags, you usually end up hanging both right next to one another. Did I mention everything in this hobby is filthy?

...
>>
>>2835426

I have about 65L of storage in my panniers and bags. It's not enough. At best you might be able to carry a sweater and an extra change of clothes. You're filthy, too.

What they don't tell you is that if you like to do gravel, you're going to beat the hell out of your bike, and it will require constant tuning. It's fine, I learned to maintain my bike because I built it myself, but it's still an annoyance at best. At worst, you're going to have to constantly sink money into replacement parts and labor.

Biking is not cheaper than driving. This is a myth. Everything is expensive and they really screw you on parts.

Let's talk about camp sites. I pitched last month and had a weird feeling while cooking my instant noodles. I look over my right shoulder and there's this old dude just standing on a hill staring down at me. He's probably jerking off. I had to pack back up again and move on because I was worried about security. I should really carry a gun.

Packing up every morning and pitching every night is a giant pain. It's not carefree at all. You always have to think about where your next pitch is going to be, and how much food and water you have left. You start to get anxiety about all these things.

You can't just filter any water. It has to be free from viruses and chemicals. Not everywhere has water sources like that, otherwise you're always going to be looking for the next gas station, and you're basically a car.

Do you want to know where gas stations and truck stops are? They're never in the nice areas. They're always in the ghetto. You will have food and water there, but you can't pitch there or else you're going to get raped.

Bikepacking is anything but carefree. I guess you can call me a poser and a larper, but it's actually not really fun. I can't believe I spent all this money on gear. I think this whole hobby is just peddled by influencers making money by selling gear. It's not feasible or fun.

...
>>
>>2835427

I honestly think I'm going to quit bikepacking and just sleep in hotels from now on. Srsly. Even camping is fine. Staying in the same place for a couple days is easy. Moving on every morning sucks. It's tons of work. It's not fun.

Anyway, like I said, I'm not OP, but that's been my experience with bikepacking so far.

I looked into solar charging for ebikes.

It's not feasible. Based on my calculations, a portable solar panel will take about a week to charge an ebike battery, which will get you about 40 miles.

If you just focus on getting better at pedal biking, you can do 70 miles per day once your body has been conditioned, which will take a couple weeks.

You are a smelly hobo.

Germs are a real concern on the trail. Ticks are really nasty this year and lyme can be debilitating.

If you get Giardia on the trail, you're going to spend a week shitting yourself and vomiting.

Not to mention, you're going to have a hard time fitting back into society if you don't bathe.
>>
>>2835462
>Just get a tent.
I do have a tent, but I least where I live animals seem to be attracted to tents, not sure if it is the heat that one radiates or the smell, so they try to get inside the tent. Snakes also tend to hide under them.
>>
>>2835467
yeah snek do that and the parasitic bugs, so I've been told, actually follow the CO2 you exhale. But whatever it is, body odour, breath or heat, it's not really like you could do something about either of them.
But when you say 'animals' do you mean mammals? In my experience the only mammals who come to 'investigate' your tent are rabid ones and bears.
>>
>>2831194
WA Anon reporting in, its fairly nice up here. The weather is temperate, the infrastructure and parks are well-maintained and the nature is glorious - lots of forest and mountains all through the Cascades, just avoid the flatlands East of the mountains during the summer months because it gets up above 100F. Puget Sound is a temperate 60-ish most of the year, though we do get a lot of rain. Wild blackberries, edible mushrooms, and of course river and lake fish are available in various seasons and despite the memes of Seattle Chill, the people here are friendly and easy to get along with. Just avoid the capital city, Olympia, and Seattle proper - the suburbs are fine, and there are little towns of 500-ish people dotted all across North Washington.
>>
>>2835472
>But when you say 'animals' do you mean mammals?
Animals in general, I can't thing any other way to classify insects, spiders and snakes together. But now that I think of it, wild board and lynxes could be an issue if I ever leave the food inside the tent.
>>
>>2835477
No I ment that in the context of
>they try to get inside
which in my experience and to my knowledge is not a problem with mammals unless they are accustomed to humans, rabid or simply bears and dont give a fuck.
In my area it's rare for you to spot a lynx. And here at least it is not a real thing that a lynx is ever going to approach you, at most you see it far away, while it has defi ately noticed you a while ago and just decided you're far away enough so it can stay.
Regarsing the boar: They too are generally too shy to actively seek out a place with a human. They only ever get defensive when cornered.
Oh well, I remember this one hunter who supposedly knocked himself out and woke up to the sensation of a wild boar gnawing away at his leg. Never say never I guess.

you can go for alot longer without food. again bail if you didnt eat for too long but I don't see how that is going to happen - well unless irrational fear of stores
just apply fucking repellent, wear clothes and deal with getting bitten - doxicycline and youre good
bathe when you find a suitable body of water
also people dont even stink naturally, idk what people who stink did wrong but generally people dont stink after a week of sweating every day and no shower.
just dont drape your tent in bacon strips to signal bears

I'm not saying you're going to use electric power all day, I'm just saying that a solar panel will get you 5 or 10 free miles of ebike power, OR it will give you 10 to 20 miles of assist power, OR it will give you enough power to charge your devices/flashlights and have a fan for summer nights.
>>
>>2835523
Try it, let me know what you think.

I looked into it. Consensus so far on portable solar panels is that they're almost too much trouble to carry. Remember, you're adding weight and reducing your aero as well. I doubt they're going to give you even 5 additional miles of assist per day.

>Biking is not cheaper than driving. This is a myth. Everything is expensive and they really screw you on parts.
If you are to have those fancy bikes that are superlight, then that is true, it costs as much as using a regular motorcycle, sometimes even more.
>gas stations and truck stops are never safe
Same you could say about a fucking shopping mall, or just even going to a regular suburb desu, the big factor at play is mostly is the hour, which the worst ones are close to midnight and before sunrise.

Yeah exactly. I posted it on another board but in the same context very recently:
I know at least two guys whose mode of operating is:
Wake up somewhere. Need bicycle. Check classifieds. Maybe something for free, maybe pay 20 bux. Go get bicycle. Ride her onwards. Be somewhere else. Put it in classifieds at 30 bux, maybe lucky? If not keep it ride another place. Maybe eventually gift it to someone who needs it more. Repeat.
Like this they go through ownership of one or two bicycles a week and while I operate differently I understand the idea:
Never worry about it, be carefree, never fiddle with it or repair a thing, no attachement, comes and goes, gets you to the next place, like a train there there is no more trains but also at the speed of observation.
Why care about superbike if you don't need to be anywhere on time and are even a literal bicycle inept weakling. It's not like bicycles had vastly different intrinsic velocity. It's the rider but much much more so the fact THAT you are on a bicycle, compared to being on foot, and not what kind of bicycle.

Sounds amazing!
I'm in France too, I've did a few week-long bike trips throughout the country, but never more than two weeks.
I do dream of going fully into this lifestyle when I leave my job, but I have some questions.
Can you post the list of gear you are using ? (Bike, tent, bivy bag, etc...)
I have most of those already but I'm thinking of buying new, better, gear.
I would like to get a new bike because my current one is a heavy dirt bike, not practical for long distances. I've tried gravel bikes before and they seem great for this kind of project.
And do you plan your routes ? If so, how ? With physical maps ? Or phone ? Do you always bike ? Or do you sometime walk too, or take the train ?

Anyway, have a good adventure.
Maybe we shall meet on the way one day.

Hey friend pepper spray and a knife are nice for protection
Peaceful and aggro if you need it to create a diversion or something whatever I'm not advocating violence only peace
If you can fight the biggest animal reasonably you can walk around fairly relaxed
Albeit the biggest animal is a retard with a gun so that's unfortunate
It's a crap shoot
If you're close enough though what's great about pepper spray is that even if it doesn't hurt that much you still have a lot of trouble keeping your eyes open
And if you get it in their nose and mouth that's gotta suck
Plus you can probably make this solution if you had to in a situation where you camp in the woods in an area you can grow peppers to completion
That
Anyway some kind of a pump sprayer would be great
the knife to finish things off if you had to
Or maybe you could take a rock to the back of their skull
Honestly the spray is doing pretty good
And people might be content with peace or theft or whatever is afforded through this luxury more so than readily anticipated considering current gun violence demographics

Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't find it in the thread. What bike is that?
>>
I don't really get this thread. You guys are talking to a homeless guy, why ask him about applying for jobs and making a good faith effort and all that? They always say "I tried everything". Fine, whatever. At the same time, to the homeless guy, at some point he needs tools and tells people he's hungry, but he won't do simple shoplifting? I shoplift stuff I need or want just for the hell of it. I don't care about the moral or ethical argument because I am a thief. All of this just seems so pleading and harder than it needs to be. But enjoy your suffering. I'm sure it will be punctuated by moments of ecstasy and honest reflection, leading inevitably though to just another bike ride. Maybe you can write a book about it, I guess.

>Oregon coast is more hospitable
Yes, but it's also accessibility nightmare.
Beautiful but fuck *driving* on certain parts of 101 in bad weather, let alone biking or hiking.

>Now wot? Have any other anons lived the drifter life? How do I find good stealthcamp spots so cops don’t burn my tent and retard tweakers dont do me like kevin nash in the summer of 92?
I spent 6 months living out of a backpack, then a year living out of a van. then I bought some cheap shitty land where im garunteed to never have any neighbors, and now im building a tiny house.
I figure if I can get my housing sorted out then I wont need to work much if any

>that bike seat
How the fuck do biological males ride bicycles? I love the idea of pedaling around the country and living free, but fucking HATE bicycle seats with a passion. Those reclining tricycles seem like the best option, but they cost so much more.

Sounds like you picked a shitty part of the country to bikepack. My choice would be Michigan. You have 1) flatness, 2) dense forests, 3) beautiful lakes, 4) plentiful state parks where you can sneak a hot shower and fill your water bottles, 5) mild summer climate, rainstorms can be severe but rarely last long, 6) locals who aren't in the habit of harassing random strangers, 7) firm sand roads that lead deep into the forest.

You never heard of a water filter? Washing your dishes with creek water is not going to make you sick. Dry them out with your shirt if you're that worried. Many parts of America have few ticks. In any case, avoid thrashing through brush and weeds; stay in open forests.

Everyday bathing is as simple as pouring a bottle of water over your head and rubbing yourself down with your other hand. Do this on a daily basis in hot weather, every other day in cooler weather. Before bed is ideal.

Even in a van I averaged 30-40 miles a day vagabonding around states like Colorado and Michigan. 70 miles is excessive.
>>2835570
It also spares your shoulders from the weight of a full pack.

Shit, my local auction house wants $50 for a bicycle that's been sitting out in the yard for a year, all rusty and with rotted tires.

This is the key to all things, including relationships and parentling. You will grow more than you know.

Holy shit this thread is a gold mine.
I dont know if this is an elaborate gag you guys setup beforehand or if it evolved on its own or if you guys are serious but thanks for the laughs.
