You do have enough /out/ friends to form a rope team, don't you anon?
anime is for losers
anime is for winners
>>2828585Is she from Laid-Back Camp? I just started watching that.
>>2828585This is on my bucket list, I was hoping to do it this year but I can't get anyone to go with me and its probably a pretty stupid thing to do alone. I am wondering if I should just go for it and try to find a group who will let me tag along with them. But I am pretty anti social and Idk how Norwegians would react to a random foreigner begging to tag along with them.
>>2828585I don't really have the space for a fully kitted out winter set-up, and I don't want to freeze my balls off at night
>>2828788do you think glaciers disappear in the summer?
>>2828790Do you think glaciers are warm in the summer?
>>2828785Why does this have to take place in Norway?
>>2828813IYKYK
>>2828785Does Norway have alpine clubs? Ours around here organize tours on glaciers (and they offer courses for beginners as well)
>>2828821>Does Norway have alpine clubsAmericans be like
>>2828585There's no glaciers on the east coast and I refuse to make friends.
>>2828813I live in the UK, Norway is cheapest for me to get to. >>2828821being coddled by guides seems lame, i'd rather go alone and risk being swallowed by an crevasse then getting cucked by a tour guide.
>>2828785>>2828830>I am wondering if I should just go for it and try to find a group who will let me tag along with them.Option 1) Join a climbing club, once people know you're competent you'll get invited to higher commitment trips (including multi-day glacier)Option 2) Hire a guide (lol)
>>2828585I live by the beach and desert.
>>2828585>You do have enough /out/ friendsI don't have enough friends as it is. I camp and survive alone.
>>2829920Option 3, don't be a pussy and just solo it.
>>2828585erm, akshully...
>>2830364do you carry dual ice tools in case you fall in a crevasse?
>>2828585>Wiping your ass with snow>No campfires>Freezing cold nights sleeping in snow dugouts>Crevasses >West coast mountains home to nigger-tier animals like grizzlies and cougars
>>2830970based retard
>>2828785I have been to Norway and they will react very badly to that. You will probably die as that landscape does not fuck around.
>>2830970No. Ice climbing your way out of a crevasse fall is a fantasy. You very likely won't have the space to even swing the tools.
>>2831496>he doesn't carry a tree log for solo crevasse rescue
>>2833291ngl this seems super based
>>2830364this is depressing guys. is it really retarded to go solo? what if you are extremely careful? i'm going to the alps soon but so many things that i want to do require crossing or traversing glaciers and i will be alone, it's shit
>>2833533You will probably be fine. Especially if you are a following a boot track up a popular route. However you may also randomly break through a snow bridge and die.
>>2833533> i'm going to the alps soon but so many things that i want to do require crossing or traversing glaciers and i will be alone, it's shityou'll be fine anon
>>2828585Sybau unc
How hard is it to find climbing partners in the PNW? Are they really that unfriendly?
>>2828585Because glaciers in general but especially in my area are under enough stress, even without people camping on them, thanks to the high energy lifestyle people. Also I have little to no business there, what is there? Inhospitable conditions. There's a reason why so many peaks have only first been ascended in modern times: It takes a certain degree of affluence for people to become bored enough to do things that are naturally pointless or detrimental even. People that came before had no time for such nonesense and enough to worry about, even in relatively hospitable conditions at the mountains foot.
>>2837693>Because glaciers in general but especially in my area are under enough stress, even without people camping on themlmfaoPeople camping on glaciers do not affect them in anyway. They are giant moving bodies of ice.
>>2833533It's suicidal. We have 3 deaths a day, every day in the Italian alps. Get gear, learn to climb, join a club, work your way up, never go alone. All routes have difficulty levels assigned to them. They're accurate and they're there for a reason (you not ending up in a coffin).>t. sick and tired of these helicopters when I'm /out/.
>>2837695The precious ice must be saved and preserved
>>2828585>born in south america>one of the only countries without any high altitude mountainFuck this shit I'm going to Argentina or Bolivia and chew on coke for the whole day
>>2837714>Get gear, learn to climb, join a club, work your way up, never go alonei did all of those already, i just want to do without the last thing. is it possible? i have plenty of experience mountaneering, just not in glaciars
>>2837757Already answered >>2833538
>>2837714We should just stop rescuing people. Let them die.
how does cold hardening work ie your tolerance to cold temps if you underdress for cold you just end up getting a bad case of cold i doubt getting annoying cold again and again helps you get better
>>2828607where?
>>2838558Sleeping in the cold increases brown fat production = higher metabolism = better cold resistance
>>2828585I don't have many friends and I live in the desert.
