if you got the chance to go /out/ing for a week in a carboniferous forest, would you take it, or would you not have the BALLS?
>>2835731absolutely!
>>2835731Yes. But only if I can carry my rifle and side arm. A lotta nasties in that period looking to chow down on me as a snack. Oh, and some bug spray.
>>2835731Thats all made up god created the animal kingdom about 4000 years ago.
>>2835737Blood sucking insects didn't evolve until the mesozoic. In all likelihood there wouldn't even be any parasites that are capable of drinking a human's blood around in a carboniferous forest, making bugs an absolute non-issue.
>>2835731Looks like my yard.>neighbor put 3 alligators in his 85 acre "pond" to eat the beavers.
>>2835731okay, hear me out, if it were me, i would, it would be a suicide mission for sure but, would.first, oxygen levels, not gonna be fun, i know what higher altitudes (less oxygen) does to a human, i dont know what oxygen levels of like, 35% compared to 21% would dosecond, fuck it would be rad as hellmy gameplan, assuming i get at least some kind of gear? a knife to sharpen a stick? guess i could find a rock that would work for that.hunt, kill and eat something, as long as i stayed away from water it should just be giant bugs and salamanders right? these bitches have never even seen an animal capable of throwing something.essentially i would just dick around as long as i could before something kills me, like, was venom that could kill an adult human even a thing yet? die to some infection...and then just walk in the doors of Valhalla, Pearly gates whatever the fuck you believe in, to meet my ancestors with the coolest "oh, you killed a walrus?""hear me out... story ever"
>>2835911Jesus Christ this post is embarrassing
1. You would be running hot, maybe light headed a bit at higher O2 levels before you acclimate, everything will feel easier and less overall strain and breathing / heart rate would stay pretty low.Constant, sudden torrents of rain and lightning. Nowhere to actually walk, its all swamp/bog/forest land. 2. We only know what was fossilized, so there are all sorts of potentially fucked up shit from that peroid, i mean, walking predatory plants, who fucking knows.Bell trap plants the size of a car, gigantic venus fly traps, who knows again. like .01% of the things that existed are fossilized.I really imagne most humans would die within 10 minutes for the most part from.1. Immediately anaphylaxis, any bite or sting2. Carnivorous plant/toxins3. Stunned for a moment as you watch something more or slither, too late.Imagine a giant bobbing moving insect with little puff balls vibrating from side to side, its captivating for a split second you are distracted/hypnotized, then its over.Gets me fucking hard. My pre-workout is masturbating about this time period.
>>2835914Come on Timmy, use your words, explain why...
>>2835753Good. Even better then.
>>2835731i'd absolutely take it, yet it wouldn't be without issuethe biggest problem is probably having to deal with the equivalent of crocodiles literally everywhereknowing amphibians were already quite dangerous, i'm sure insects were too, especially with their size & quantity; probably gonna have shit stinging & biting me at every stepbesides fungi, plants in general will be dumping spores everywhere, so allergies will be terrible
>>2835753The bugs were gigantic back then though due to the richer atmosphere. They could probably chew your finger off at least. Imagine a swarm of them.
>>2835733Cant afford to feed it anymore.

>all coniferous forestmy worst nightmare
>>2836185As I recall it was mostly spore trees back then. Conifers came much later. Spore trees didn't have solid trunks but a hardened bark and hollow center. Supposedly there was nothing that ate them during the carboniferous era, so their dead material kept building up until millions of years later microbes evolved to digest it, and that's why there's so many coal and hydrocarbon deposits from that era and thus the name.
>>2836214Fascinating
Sleeping bag, knife, ferro rod, rifle and revolver, flashlights, batteries, etc etc... Basically my camping bag. And just see how long I could go. Probably a week lmao.
>>2835731No, I hate bugs, especially large ones
>>2835911>using an entire years worth of commas in one postStay in school
since bugs have open circulatory systems, wouldnt a giant bug be basically invincible? youd have to drain like gallons of fluid to kill it
>>2836214spore trees sound even more horrifying than coniferstake me back to pre-logging, pre-indian era when deciduous forests covered America and lemme go see them - interestingly on the ridges it would have been basically all conifers anyways above 3000 ft
>>2835731Guy on bottom looks friendly tho
>>2836629Why couldnt you just shoot it in the head like anything else?
>>2836629it'd be like killing a really fast lobster filled with goo
>>2835731No. See: >>2836041Assuming I didn't get bitten and eaten alive, piece by piece, in my sleep by a venomous centipede or vored by a *megatoad; the world at that time period was extremely dense humid jungle in every direction (never mind the SPORES). Knowing myself I'd wander just a little too far from my time machine and get impossibly fucking lost. *Granted, seeing all those enormous amphibians would probably be super fucking cool. They're probably great eating too.
>>2838139Pic related are the mentioned amphibians. Everybody shits and pisses over the insects, which they're correct to do, but it was also a great age for FROGGGSSSS. Imagine the croaking, Anons.
>>2838139>>2835916Yes there was probably a lot more swampy forest and shallow seas but it doesnt mean thats all there was. There were hills and mountains, and presumably rainshadows caused by them
>>2838141None of these are from the carboniferous.
I guess it depends. If my presence would cause a butterfly effect, I'd stay away. If I know for a fact that my presence there is a vacuum and won't affect the timeline at all, then absolutely. I love dragonflies, and big ones would be neat. I wouldn't think the amphibians would be tough to deal with as long as I had a weapon. I'd probably bring:>bug spray>bug netting>large steel spatula for swatting>a very wide homemade butterfly net>Gerber sawblade machete>light axe head (can make a handle innawoods)>sharpening puck>magnesium ferrocerium fire starter (works in low oxygen)>beef jerky, jam, peanut butter, honey, Sailor Boy Pilot Bread (dry, long-lasting, rot-resistant, no strong smell, and Pilot Bread is tasty)>Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun with slugs>7x linen aloha shirts>7x khaki tactical pants with mag pockets (allows for carrying more tools and goodies)>10" leather jump boots>small hammer and nails to build a lil tree house and stay away from megafrogs
