This summer I hiked with my brother in small mountains but he was slower than me so I had to stop once in a while to wait for him. The next day we went for a bigger mountain and the problem became even bigger cause he had sore muscles from the previous hike. I had to wait for him very often and even take 0.5 l of water from his backpack because of his backache. Summiting the mountain took us about 30% longer than it's supposed to.

The difference between us is that I love running and I'm skinny while he hates running and is skinnyfat.

So how do I make him hike faster? Should I encourage him to run at least for a few days before a trip to the mountains so his legs don't get sore from being used?

Just enjoy time with your brother asshole. Do your speedruns on your own time.

Speedrunning nature is a niche activity. Most people actually want to go slow and enjoy the views, rather than treat it as crossfit-with-trees.
So reduce your expectations and focus on being together. If you push him too much to do prep, he's just going to flake because it's not his style.

Eat more.

Find someone else to go running with, and enjoy the time with your brother. He's not doing anything wrong by being less fit than you, you're being an asshole by pushing him when you're obviously the more experienced one.

What does he eat? I think pasta the day before, and beef jerky the day of, is best for performance. And electrolytes. He's probably dehydrated.

But an actual answer, >>2841452
Cherish your time with your family, OP. They won't be there forever.
