I've read how the rainforest was actually planted by natives. They would deliberately plant trees with fruits and flowers that fostered special birds and I guess food sources for themselves. They walked 1000 miles with seeds to disperse and plant. I guess the best you can do now if you're not a billionaire is something similar in your local business, start planting useful trees for the next generations. One of my local townspeople bought some rough land and plants +1k trees on it every year. That's good for local wildlife, rain, erosion control.
