It's a classic for a reason
>>2842519Why did you bandaid the lighter
>>2842521It's leukotape, you wrap some of it around a lighter to use so you dont have to carry the whole roll
>>2842521He's an ultralight faggot who thinks the extra 100g of leukotape is going to be a deal breaker
>>2842530But it just makes sense not to carry the roll if it's something you're gonna use rarely anyway, im not an ultralight fag im just practical
>>2842525I have 2 feet of Gorilla tape wrapped around a pencil for when I canoe. Because I’ll never need 10 yards while /out/ing and the roll goes to hell in the bottom of your pack is you don’t store it differently than it comes from the store.
>>2842519Does anyone here use anything other than a basic bic lighter to start fires and stoves ?
>>2842538When I go camping I try to start at least one fire on my trip using a friction based method, usually with a fire bow. I do this just to reassure myself that I still have the skill and use a lighter for my other fires most of the time. I'm a smoker (cigarettes, not weed) so I usually cary one lighter in my pocket and a backup in my backpack, not necessarily Bic lighters though
>>2842548Didn't mean to sage, was still in the namefield from another thread
>>2842530I don’t think you’d even heard of leukotape before reading this thread. >>2842534Not only practicality, but to save space. Bulkiness matters, especially with an awkward shape like a roll of medical tape. >>2842538I sometimes use a fero rod, but only for fun.
>>2842519This but with the longstem neck
>>2842519>wide opening - pocket lint won't get stuck inside metal guard thingy>refillable - can be regularly topped up and never die on you>can swap whole core out or only change flintbetter in literally every way
>>2842534Plus, like, what if the whole roll gets lost or dirty?
>>2842653rods good for rolling joints too!
>>2842653I've loved and owned clippers for many years.I have replaced a few flints in them as well.I do not need them to roll.I however have only been able to refill them to working conditions a handful of times. I get the butane put it in and maybe I'll get a half decent flame for a little. More times than not the refill won't take and my beloved clipper goes into the pile.Anyone else have bad luck with clippers refilling? Or is this my individual struggle with mental retardation
>>2842538I have an entire fire kit I bring camping. It has multiple types of fire starters(wax jute, wax cotton, and fat wood) kindling shaver, fero rod(for shits and grins) and waterproof matches). I also have a refillable torch lighter in it, not a bic. But I also smoke, so I have a bic in my pocket at all times too. I buy them by the case, like you'd see at a shop. Cheaper that way, and if the shit ever hits the fan, they're top trade goods.
>>2843072I've had similar experiences with clippers. I've never needed to replace a flint before they clog. I'll refill them once or twice before they just stop working for some reason.>>2842653>better in literally every wayBics carry a lot more fuel. Which shouldn't matter if you can refill the clipper. But as I stated above, I haven't had good luck refilling them more than once or twice. And I'm using high quality, ultra refined butane.
>>2843088>go /out/ where there's ample birch>will never need more than a lighter or ferro rod to start a fire even if it's raininghow will west coasters ever recover?
>>2843121So, everywhere you go, you find birch? Or you only go where there's birch? I suppose this works if you want to limit yourself to birch only /out/ings
>>2843208 its not that I just go out when there is birch. I feel like it is more that the birch finds me and I find them. I feel like it is more of a mutual thing. Something drags me to them and they always seem to rise in front of me
>>2842534But it looks hella badass when I post pictures of it on nu-/out/!!
>>2843219Birch please
>>2843208I only go /out/ where there's birch. They're ubiquitous in Ontario where I live.
>>2842538I use a ferro rod or flint and steel for the most part. But I carry a bag of dryer lint and a touch lighter for when I’m lazy.
>>2843270Got a picture of your flint and steel setup?
>>2842538Bic lighters often break when I try to use them. I also like the fact that I can start a Zippo and the lighter will burn hands free. If conditions force you to use damp tinder to start a fire being able to put the lighter down within the tinder until it catches fire is very handy. I carry the Zippo, a small vial of extra lighter fluid and extra flints.
>>2843072>>2843091You need to remove the remaining air inside it first. You can do that by pressing the valve down with a match or by pressing on the top side. And you have to hold it upside down while filling it so the new gas enters the lighter and not the compressed air inside of the container.I refilled various lighters that way (not just clippers) and I had no problems.
>>2842519I've never used leukotape. How many feet of it does the average man need to wrap a knee or an ankle?
>>2844559You aren't supposed to smash the bic on rocks to make sparks
>>2842538I use a refillable jet lighter but carry 2 bics.
>>2842538I typically use Vaseline coated dryer lint, lit either by lighter or my magnesium sticks
>>2843072I have replaced the flint on my fav clipper dozens of times and refilled more than 50 times. It's a gift from a friend and I maintain it. The worst thing that usually happens is your top valve is clogged or the flint doesn't seat right so your sparks don't catch. They will last forever, make sure you as others said drain the air (flip the lighter upside down when filling)
>>2844559>Bic lighters often break when I try to use them. You're an ogre or something? Unless you have hands the size of tennis rackets, I don't really get how you can break a lighter.
>>2842519its so embarrassing to admit but it took me an unreasonably long amount of time to figure out how to ignite a bic haha. i have really poor hand eye coordination or something
>>2842525>>2842530>leukotape>Google it>Flesh colored variation of sports tape for significantly more than the price of the black stuff
>>2842538I maturbate vigorously with charcloth.
>>2842538For the weight of a large ferro rod you can carry over three BicsFor the size of a box of 32 matches you can carry a BicInstead of a Zippo that leaks you can carry a Bic
