sheltered neet american newfag looking to travel to the netherlands for as cheap as possible. my impression is my best bet would be sleeping in a tent just far enough from civilization but i'm absolutely clueless about this shit. i expect it to be hard as fuck and uncomfortable for my babied suburban ass but i'm willing to face this head on and as stupid as it sounds try my best. any of you want to enlighten me on stupid mistakes to avoid like what kind of tent, backpack, sleeping bag, etcetera to get, what to watch out for, that kind of thing? i'm under the impression a visa isn't a problem since they let americans into the country no questions asked for 90 days at a time as long as they don't work. i'm considering trying to stay in hotels/hostels for a couple days and buying supplies in the netherlands but that might be stupid maybe i should just buy my stuff here before i leave. also i'd prefer to buy something from a brick n mortar store over amazon if possible

I've had to pitch up in some ugly places, like traffic circles and such, but nowhere is impossible and in the netherlands is totally doable. In the city's we have handhaving, which are people that couldn't become police officers so they are just glorified parking wardens who think they are special forces. They are often worse than police. If you want to bum it almost every city has a homeless shelter to stay during the night which costs around €6. They are loud and smelly but usually safe. Drugs and booze are forbidden there and they might check your bags. Depending on when you want to go, prepare for a lot of rain. Everyone around here speaks English so don't worry about that
