Hi /out/ TLDR: I want to know all about making drinking water.
long story: I am gettin a little into prepping. I don't really like the scene because it's full of faggots thinking they are Rambo and spending loads on equipment. but I also think I should know a little about what to do in an emergency. I can't rely on public services.
in order to get into, I thought about the most probable scenario in my case. that would be urban survival. and I thought that the first and most important thing I should know is how to make drinking water. how to make sure I can get clean water, or clean it myself.
Any advice is welcome. Discussion too, but main point is drinking water.

There’s a bunch of ways to acquire and purify drinking water, and they all have their own advantages and disadvantages, but choosing the right one is pretty specific to your resources, location, and living situations. You can have people only miles apart where one fella just needs pathogen and sediment removal and the other needs to run a vapor still and be careful to safely discard their heads and tails because of chemical contamination.

Faggot.
>>
>>2844569
Oh shit it is a paywall article. I didn't think NOLS did that. I deleted that shit. Anyway, boil your water.
>>
>>2844572
OP said he's in the city, boiling doesn't remove chemical contaminants which will be a huge issue for him. Distilling is probably the way to go.
>>
>>2844573
Depends on if he rents or owns, and what his local climate is like. A cistern is pretty cheap.
>>
>>2844565
by what you say in this post, I began to see there are different contaminations. rocks, chemicals, bacteria... and they will need different treatment.
so maybe I should begin not by how to make driking water but which are the water contaminants, and then how to take rid of them.
>>2844572
yeah, I knew about boiling. and puting a little bleach on water. but I want to know properly. what, how, why.
>>2844573
fortunately I live near to the sea and spring waters. but I'm taking note on this.
>>2844574
I can't do this.

also it's the first time I post on this board, I see it is a slow one.
>>
>>2844598
If you live near spring water you're good, you can boil it to make extra sure but you don't really need to. You have to distill sea water.
>>
>>2844598
>and puting a little bleach on water
Don't do that you will die.
>>
>>2844605
yes, I guessed that one because of salt. you have to evaporate the whole thing.
>>2844606
I don't know the propper proportions but i'm am talking about a couple of drops for liters or something like that, not making a bleach smoothie
>>
>>2844612
There is no safe amount of bleach to ingest, do not do that it will kill you. Even a small amount is enough to permanently damage your heart lungs liver and kidneys. Look it up if you don't believe me, just please don't do that.

Find a spring or dig a well

I rather not.

Retard

any resources on this matter? I'll read/watch it myself and ñearn how to make drinking water

Pick up a book instead of asking 4chan retard. We've been cleaning water industrially since the 1800s and there's tons of information on how it's done. You sound like a astupid jeet to be fair though
>>
>>2845651
water usually comes out of the ground in the form of springs. If you don't know how to dig a well, find a spring of fresh, clear flowing water and drink from it.
some people also boil water if they're nor sure about its cleanliness. you will have to make a fire then
>>
>>2845651
If you haven't done at the very least a basic Google search, you are asking to be spoonfed. If you're not willing to put in any effort to figure out how to do it, you aren't gonna do it.
>>
water falls down from the sky. it's called rain.
>>
make a system of lead pipes and lead river water through cloth to filter it throughout your city.
have everyone dump their shit and clean their clothes before the distribution point of course
>>
>>2844564
For urban survival just buy a big solar battery bank and a countertop water distiller. I usually buy bottled water but in emergencies when I still have running water I use a kitchen sink filter going into a Zero brand water filter pitcher that I keep in the fridge.

Simply not true.
About an ounce per 500g of water is fine.
(I’ve been adding that to our filtered and purified spring water for years. It gets added after the purification process, before flowing into our storage tanks for use in the house)

>puts bleach in "our" storage tanks
>"Heh, welp, at least there's no added calcium like that shiddy tap water!"

Oh man I hope you are correct. 28g of bleach in half a litre of water sounds like a lot of POISON to be ingesting even occasionally.

500 gallons of water.
not grams.

we're not on muni water; this is water from our spring.
>>

My bad. Enjoy your bountiful spring water that is excellent to have.

The active chemical that does most of the work when you add bleach to water is hypochlorous acid (HOCL). It's a strong disinfectant that's also noncytotoxic.

You see, this is why we spend so much on weapons and equipments. If you're well armed and equipped you can always procure everything you need without ever having to worry about all this virgin loser shit

Why not drop a silver coin in your water instead of using bleach?

Well, if you want a redundant water source from your municipal supply, I recommend digging a well. You can hook it up to your plumbing and everything, or you can just throw a hand pump on it and forget about it. Just make sure you test it for hazards and treat it accordingly. Relying on rainwater is generally a bad idea, even if your area gets plenty of it consistently, since you'll often be limited by how much you can collect.
If you're in an apartment or something, just plan to hoard tap water.
