Anyone ever build an underground shelter, bunker, cabin? Out in the woods? Tell me about it.I dug up a 60ft by 4 and a half feet pit to build a bunker/tunnel in and would love ideas.
>>2845645Looks cool, how big are you trying to make it?
>>2845645Can you post those dimensions again to be clear?
>>2845652Oh wow, major fuck up there lol, 45" wide x 2meter long with a depth of 4 and a half feet deep, I'm going to go lower when I come back but it maybe unsafe, the walls might collapse on me.>>2845648I'm not too sure, I just kept digging and digging, I just hope I don't hit a water table, I'd like to stick a plastic septic tank in there and backfill it, I found a 2 piece plastic septic tank And I'm gonna buy it this week.
>>2845645when i was 14 we dug a underground fort in my friends grandmas backyard. it wasnt very big but could fit 4 or 5 people. his grandma was pissed when we showed her it, she said iy could collapse and kill us. we dug it and just a few days with shovels and buckets
>>2845675She was right, I work in excavations and we use shoring cages to prevent collapse, collapsing walls are no joke, all that earth will absolutely crush you.
>>2845691I’ll double that. I do foundation repair and have been trapped during a cave in. Absolutely not fun and happens incredibly fast
>>2845645that's 100% going to flood
>>2845645bury a shipping container so it can collapse in on you.
>>2845645I helped one of my mate's build a root cellar/bunker by his hunting cabin. It's probably not what you had in mind for this thread though, seeing as we dug it out with a mini-excavator
>>2845665Godspeed. That's a good start too.
>>2845665To give you fair warning, plastic septic tanks (when empty) have a tendency to float out of the ground when the water table comes up. Mottled grey and orange/red/yellow colors in the soil are signs of a high seasonal water table. If it is a uniform brown/red/orangey color then odds are its well drained. Well drained soils often have sand and gravel under them, usually following waterways. Godspeed mole man
>>2845645The closest I've come to it is digging dirt out from this giant boulder that'd cracked in half and building it up with sticks as a little fortI think my dream home would be a kickass underground bunker with nothing visible on the surface but a little tool shed. Bonus points for if the door inside the shed was hidden.Could eventually build a little cabin and larp as if that's my home when in actuality I am the luxury tunnel man
