How do I become one of them rangers like Aragorn?
Reading The Lord of the Rings some of my favorite parts are the ones with Strider's show of skill.
I love how he is completely aware of his surroundings and is able to instantly read footprints and use herbs and quickly make himself and his companions unseen and escape danger. At times he seemed more in tune with nature than even Legolas.
I have seen quite a few threads on here of people being scared of the dark and I feel like if one had good old Strider's skill and knowledge he wouldn't be afraid no more.
Aragorn wouldn't be startled in the middle of the forest by some bear, he would know about that mountain lion following him for the last 2 miles. He wouldn t get poisoned by some mushroom or die of hunger because he knows what is good and what is bad to eat. Strider wouldn't get lost in the forest since he has been drawing a 3d map in his head this entire time.
How do I become more like Aragorn, obviously he has had 80 years of experience but what books would you recommend and things to do in the forest to become a little more like him

Go outside. One of two things will happen: you'll just know what skills you need to practice next, or you'll realize it sucks and give up your fantasy.

remove yourself from the website until you're at least 18 years old, which will be in 6 years

Nu-/out/ redditors malding over a poorly worded but good question as usual pretending that this isnt just a kazakhstanian under-water spearfishing forum instead of their personal little circlejerk safe-space for their epic banter thats too edgy for reddit.

Take a basic hunter safety course and read up on animal tracking. You'll pick up the print identification skills on the scouting season.

>Hed recognize a mountain lion tracking him for 2 miles
Incredibly unlikely. They're real sneaky and would have no reason to cross in front of someone they're hunting. Thankfully they're not aggressive and super skittish so theyre not much if a threat desu despite being larger than leopards. Honestly if they had a different temperament they would've been hunted to extinction.

>Identifying herbs
This one is really hard. There's a lot of good literature on the subject but searching wild edibles + your area is the way. I recommend linking up with some botany groups in your area since a lot of plants look really similar and can kill you quick.

So basically tldr, be a botanist that hunts. It's really that simple/obtainable honestly.

Is this where we can indulge our embarrassing fantasies? How can I become more like snuffkin and arthur morgan? I'm American. I just want to be a vagrant and not get stabbed or raped

i always dress as snufkin when i go to the liquor store, i'm a walking milf magnet

The more you use a skill like navigating, the better you will get at it.

But how old mentally? Most of the fictional character Aragorn's skills are either notfuckingpossible or just basic fitness and woodcraft

snufkin was genuinely just a hobo

easy
>get born with Numenorian blood
>get raised by elves
>befriend a wizard
>hone your skills for 90 years

For identifying plants. The best answer is just to get one of those "identifying x in <your country/region>" type books. It's just much nicer and succinct. There are these dictionary books that are meant to broadly key a shitton of plant species, but once you start doing that you realize that nature is constantly raping and shitting out new species everyday so there is little point. Also weighs a tons. Just learn about the useful plants, then keep one book mushroom, herbs, geology etc.

Practice make perfect. But people do things because it is necessary for their survival. Maybe in the medieval times or in the Asian steppes someone would know how to hunt and forage, but in the modern world people dont need to learn these skills to survive
