Moving to Madison soon, so how would you guys rate Wisconsin? I did quite a bit of fishing there growing up, which was fantastic, but what about everything else? Hiking, homesteading, skiing, etc. I've heard are all pretty good there.

Where are you moving from?

Wtf why are there a bunch of piggly wigglys in wisconsin. Its a southern thing.
>>
>>2847133
Anon... wtf do you think Wisconsin is? They're getting a Buccees to.
>>
>>2847130
Dallas, basically anywhere else would be an upgrade /out/ wise. I know people are gonna say something about the temperature difference but I have never minded the cold, even hiking in below zero weather has never bothered me.
>>2847132
that's milwaukee, and even so I grew up in the south so I know how to handle your average nigger. Here they're more rabid than anywhere because their ancestors were too stupid to ever leave.
>>
>>2847127
>Hiking, homesteading, skiing
Lmao, guess it MOGS Indiana, Illinois and Iowa.
>>
>>2847127
Wisconsin is good, but there's a fuckton of people who use the outdoors, both Wisconsites and Illinoisans. Just find something to do and a place to do it. Expand from there.

>another texan clogging up other states
>>
is the driftless area hot in the summer? I wonder if it might be possible to escape the heat of the summer anywhere in the hills of wisconsin
I am also open to minnesota or northern michigan, but I don't really like glacial lakes I prefer undulating hills
>>
>>2847165
I my Driftless cabin right now, getting a slow start to my day. There is hardly any temperature variation in the summer between my far northern cabin and my main residence 3 hours south. It is a bit colder in colder months, though. Kayaking / canoeing and fishing is the most you can do.
>>
>>2847147
The winter wind might get to you after awhile, but yeah, almost any state is an /out/ improvement over Texas. Good luck, anon.

please go back

I used to track ruffed grouse in Babcock so I recommend drunk driving home from the Applebee's in Wisconsin Rapids and getting high off UP weed.

A bunch of drunks.
>>
>>2847371
But you have legal weed in Wisconsin
>>
>>2847540
It's boof weed though. If you go to da yoop that shit will have your brain bubbling like Bathsheba's cauldron. Da yoop also has the best hunting, hands down, in the whole world. Maine, Montana, Wyo, not even close. The scenery and the prevalence of wildlife in da yoop is unbeatable.
>>
>>2847544
If the yoop cold in the summer? I want to have cold/mild weather hikes in mid-summer without having to cross into Canada if possible. And I want to stay east of the Mississippi.
>>
>>2847544
>Maine, Montana, Wyo, not even close.
Explain. Can you hunt elk? big horn sheep? Speed goats? Bison? Mt lions? Wolves? if not, then...
>>

Buccees won't beat kwik trip in wi. That said, most midwesterners call wisconsin the south of the north.
>>2847127
Wisconsin is great for /out/. I lived in steven's point and hudson. Madison is okay, some great fishing nearby and good hikes. The best hunting is more out west. I love the st croix river valley of MN and WI. The hunting is pretty good, so is the public land because WI lets you hunt on some private land if the owners forgot to pay taxes.
Best whitetail in Wisconsin is going to be the Mississippi river valley, east of MN/Iowa.
North WI is great for the lake views and pine forests. The Oak Savannahs and river valley of the st croix is stunning. There is some great geology in WI and I love the ice age trail there. MN and WI also have some amazing foraging for anything. Mushrooms, fruits, veggies, wood for crafting, etc. Just not a lot that will get you high.
>>
>>2847571
>>2847127
My main advice is make /out/ friends in WI. Especially land-owners. I'm a land owner in MN just a short walk from WI with some hunting land. I made my /out/ friends doing manual labor jobs and later some higher paying blue collar shit.

along the coast of lake superior can stay chilly even through the summer.
>>
>>2847575
Yes. It's beautiful. MN has a better north shore. Duluth and Superior have gone to shit sadly. Nogs shouldn't exist in prime out territory. Rich liberals are worse for the environment than poor republicans.
>>
>>2847575
I don't really care about lakes though. I mean, they are pretty enough irl but they don't really photograph well - water is too uniform.

>>2847577
poor republicans mean your land gets turned over to logging companies and strip mines and developers so they can build cheap timber apartment stacks and strip malls
im not sure that's better
>>
>>2847626
>they don't really photograph well - water is too uniform.
North shore of superior is very photogenic
>>
>>2847626
it's a whole coast, like a sea. You don't have to photograph the lake itself, there's lots of beautiful trails and forests growing on its shores.
>>
>>2847544
>Da yoop also has the best hunting, hands down, in the whole world. Maine, Montana, Wyo, not even close.
you've never hunted out west, have you?

Does Wisconsin have any river gorges (however small) where you can get a view down the length of the gorge?
>>
>>2847798
The Dells?
>>
>>2847798
I'll give yer a view of the length of me gorge alrigh
>>
>>2847544
do you eat raw hamburger?
>>
>>2847889
Anywhere in particular within the Dells? The Dells looks (from minimal inspection) to be like Hocking Hills where its slot canyons so you can't really get a longitudinal view without a drone.

Lived in Madison for seven years
The Ice Age Trail is neat. The most spectacular landscapes will be found where the rivers cross the Driftless Area, like Spring Green and La Crosse. The northern woods are great for fishing and just being in the woods by yourself. Kwik Trip kicks ass, they're all over the place and have cheap, hot food all the time. I didn't spend much time near Lake Michigan but it's certainly there for you to explore.
>>
>>2847378
Fuck you the moccasin bar has the worlds largest Muskie in it.
>>
I have Wisconsin relatives and they are an eclectic bunch of functional alcoholics. I brought my cousin to a bar in Fort Collins for a beer pong tournament and he got denied because he was accused of being a ringer. And truthfully he actually was. Dude doesn't miss.

At my fraternity he brought a case of Kessler whiskey and made us old fashioned and whiskey sours from bottled sundrop. Even muddled the sugar, cherries orange and bitters. He was the last to pass out and up at 7am, beer in hand.
>>2847571
Wisconsinites are nothing more that Cajun Canadians. They have a unique dialect, friendly as fuck, live in woods and farmland, live beer cheese and maple syrup. Canadians of the deep south.
>>
>>2847127
The best skiing if you are in Wisconsin is at Mt Bohemia in the U.P. near Lac La Belle. Lots of lake effect snow from lake superior. Its all glades though and no groomed trails.

Granite peak in Wausau and snowriver in Michigan are also pretty good for midwest skiing if you are looking for large acreage and groomed trails.
>>
>>2850488
there was a big controversial article in the NYT about that place last winter I think
basically the article is a glowing puff piece
and then a lot of the reviews suggested the resort itself was dangerous and that the owners deliberately skimp on maintenance (people who actually live in the area) because they are cheapskates and the "but at least its not groomed!" thing is used as a cope to offer a poor environment
>>
I live in downtown Chicago but was raised in Da Yoop (by wolves no less) and have my Plan B there which came in handy during the St. Floyd riots and covid hysteria.

Folks point to the harsh weather and wilderness, but the true issue in Da Yoop, especially in June, is the bugs. Mama biting insect requires large amounts of mammalian blood to keep her brood alive. You are the food source. It's horrid, painful; they drive moose and elk to death avoiding them. And then there are your new best friends, the ticks ...

Unlike anywhere else, for sure. 'consin is a picnic in comparison, in fact, it's pretty darn comfy. God's Country. In a word, Kreusening
