I planted way to many fucking basil seeds. should I just yank a couple of the little fags out? or try to transplant them like this? I think theyre close to being ready to move to a pot but Im afraid they'll start dying from lack of nutrients/space in the little plot
>>2847679Yes, basil gets really bushy. Pull out all but the tallest one.
Thin it a bit then transplant, basil grows best in clumps
>>2847679dont pull them out, youll end up damaging the roots of the one you want to keep pinch them just above the soil without damaging anything under (you can use "sharp"ish tweasers to do this, i do)
If you let them go just a little longer, you could probably save all of them. Pull out the plug and soak it in some seaweed tonic (helps transplant shock) you could tease all the roots apart in water and plant them all out separately. They bounce back well when they're small and basil is pretty tough in my experience. You can never have enough basil, fresh green pesto spaghetti with home grown basil is to die for.
>>2847739>tease all the roots apart in waterThis.I root rose cuttings and sometimes I'll get 1/10 to root, sometimes 10/10. But im not going to use 10 pots so I just tease them apart after they start growing well.
>>2847739>>2847777oops. About 5 minutes ago I just trimmed them all down to the biggest 3. I do not know why I checked the thread after instead of before. I may be retarded. Still, they smell fucking amazing, better than any dried basil Ive used for sure, so Im gonna add them to my butter baste for my chicken tonight. I thought microgreens were vegan slop but the fact it took so little time for these makes me wonder if its worth investing in a tray to grow some on the side.
>>2847780I used to do beans sprouts in the fridge for salads.Real easy to do.
>>2847780>>2847941alfalfa sprouts, adds delicious crunch to any sandwich and the container refills itself in the fridge because they grow back.
true leaves are finally in, maybe 2 more days before I pull and plot. other herb seeds finally showing real growth too. not gonna lie, coming home from work and seeing how much theyve grown is kind of the only thing I have to look forward to in my life. I think I love plants. >>2847941>>2847970this sounds good but all the resources online seem to say you should grow them in a cool place but the fridge should only be for storing afterwards since its too cold, still Ill look further into it.
also once this thread dies ill move over to the /hgm/ thread like I should have posted this in to begin with. didnt lurk long enough. sorry.
