Stop getting your news on the US from state ran eyropean news agencies, you have nothing to worry about visiting if you're White. Though you sound like a little pussy bitch and couldn't handle camping in the western US anyways.

I really hate deserts.
>>

>hot ass scrubland and rocks.

Boooo. Gay. I'd rather have forests of any kind and grassy plains. Hell, I'd even take temperate lakeside/river areas or sub tropical to tropical ocean front areas.

Deserts are places that you visit a few times in your life for the novelty factor. And then you count your blessings that you don't actually live in such an inhospitable, lifeless, arid, baked hellscape of an environment year-round.

Do I really need a gun for polar bear or can I just wear jingle bells and carry bear spray?
>>
>>2849401
In AK the correct answer is always both. Environmental conditions can make bear spray ineffective. The tundra gets very windy.

It’s less socially acceptable to be packing a bear caliber sidearm in the lower 48 so up to you on if your comfortable getting some looks. If I’m in dense woods where it can’t get too windy, I’m totally comfortable with just bear spray. I’d say unless I’m in the Montana/Wyoming griz country area, I’m not going to bring a sidearm.

Bear bells are useless. Bears don’t necessarily register bells ringing as being indicative of humans nearby which is the whole point. They’re too similar in frequency to things like bird calls. You definitely don’t want to surprise a bear so talking loud and making noise is always good. Bells aren’t the right way to do it though.

Sorry I didn’t specifically answer your question. If you’re in polar bear country then hell yes have a .44. That said, unless you live up here, I hazard to guess that any situation where you are in polar bear territory, you’ll probably have some kind of armed guide with you. In that case I wouldn’t worry about having a gun yourself. Definitely do at least carry bear spray. It is extremely effective when the conditions allow for it to disperse as intended.
