Potentially a relevant question: would the U.S. military extended cold weather clothing system a good way to get cheap gear that will hold up in pretty austere conditions?
>>2848831Good tent. Took it out again last weekend and got a dusting of snow. Pic related is from the eclipse last year.
>>2848404because i hate wage cucking with every fiber of my being
>>2848380>stable snow alreadyDon't make me jealous
>>2848380I went for a dry run last week on the outskirts of a small town. Here in the UK it's late "fall" now, but it was not very cold. Thermals, cotton clothes and a thin hoodie were fine. I forgot to buy firelighters along the way despite carrying a folded camping stove the whole distance. The ground was very damp making hard travel but I loved it. I considered drying some kindling with a lighter and then keeping it next to my body heat to make it fire-ready, but a fire was not necessary.Didn't buy the optional groundsheet for my tipi tent, couldn't fully relax outside of the inner tent because the mud ruined the vibe. Will try to use the groundsheet from another tent instead of buying a full fitted hexagonal one and then cutting a hole in it for a stove, etc.I now have a new hobby. To find nice little places to be, where I can set up a hidden little world amongst the overgrown thickets and bramble patches. I enjoy being alone in those places in the dark, it was a peaceful solace feeling that I need more of. In those green islands of nature between the fields I can live quite free, unbothered, with everything I need. And to carry it all on your back, under your own strength, what a great feeling.
>>2848992>North African clubs you in the head while you sleep
>>2848995They don't dare go into the trees, it would be the opposite of anything they would think to do. And if they did, they would be there with me haha. You don't fear random black guys while camping do you?

Bumping for the first day of meteorological winter. How many meteorological winter outings do you have under your belts, anons, and how many are you planning to do this winter?
>>2848404Money is stolen life from you. They give you some petty money for the life they stole from you exploiting you.Why does a sane person would want to waste his life by spending money?Only those who steal the lives of others, thr capitalists, only they have a reason to spend.money.

I'm thinking about doing a local trail (the last 1000ft or so are well snowed in at this point) I regularly do as a day hike, but as an overnight. There's some cool hikes in the vicinity I could do morning of day 2 too. But I've never been snow camping and I have one of those non-free standing tents. I hear they can work ok though. Do I need to do anything special beyond packing warmer clothes and a warmer sleeping bag? My quilt is 20 degrees but it might dip a little below that, will wearing my belay parka be enough to make the difference? Or is it smarter to use it as a blanket? (Yes, I am scared of a little cold)
>>2852266Long, warm underwear is usually the best for sleeping in quilts/sleeping bags. And you'll need a decent air mattress. Nothing's worse than having to sleep on a cold ground.
>>2848380I live in Florida, so winter is my favorite time of year to camp.
>>2852247Spoken like someone that has no money.
>>2848380there is no point in responding to any of your threads because you view anyone that even disagrees with you slightly as seethe.
>>2852320based and reverse-season pilled
>>2848380About to go in a couple weeks. Just gotta buy some food and grab some firewood -so the forest kikes dont rape me for burning forest wood. Got a hot tent and lived camping in it last winter.
>>2848380I'm scared of fucking up and not getting my camp set up, or missing something important, with the daylight vanishing.I have to learn solo camping during summer first.
>>2853910Go car camping first.
>>2853920Fuck outta here with that shit.

>>2848380I've been meaning to since it's been a few years and I just bought a new 0F sleeping bag. How do you cope with boredom, especially since the darkness sets in so soon, and being scared of the dark?>don't drink
>>2848380>be bong>dartmoor? exmoor?>what's the point?
It's been raining for 2 weeks straight here.Yesterday with the heavy cloud and fog was the darkest day I can ever remember. Even at high noon it looked like almost nught
>>2854036I'm rather about (you) being able to span a mental bridge between motoring and camping.I mean semantically it's not wrong, if you stay in a camp are camping, regardless of how you got there. But it just wont cure the gay.
>>2848831What tent is this?>>2848856this has to be shit though right? looks like a cheap pop up tent, not suited for 4 seasons.
>>2848380Sitting around in the dark is boring. 0-degree or lower bags are expensive and take up too much closet space for what little use they'd get.If you fuck up 3-season camping, you have a bad weekend. If you fuck up winter camping, you die.Ever wake up drenched in sweat because you wore too many layers to bed? That shit will kill you in the winter.
>>2853910Useless american, what are you doing on this board?
>>2848380cabins are superior
>>2848380It is the best. No bugs, life threatening insects with diseases. And prestine beauty of the snowy winter. But you need very expensive gear to fight off the cold. But it is the best.
>>2849042man those mountains are not steep at all today i was coming down an actually steep mountain slipping and sliding on pine needles making my own path and at any point in time could come across a 50m cliff drop without warning
I'm buying a hot tent. Wish me luck.
Can someone help me gear plan for an upcoming trip? Going camping for the first time in a while. Hiking for a few hours to a lean-to, spending a night or two then heading back. The only gear I have is a klymit sleeping pad (1.3R). I'm trying to do this on a budget and wondering what else to get under $250. I think I can borrow a bag, and won't need my own cooking gear.I'm thinking a nemo foam pad and one of those military sleeping systems (bivy+2 bags you can layer). Heavy as hell but together that's only $200. Legit or dumb?
Last time I went winter camping it got down to 10-20 f. I had a sleeping bag directly on the snow since I’m kind of retarded and it was much warmer and snow free at the base of the mountains (vermont). Still had a blast but I wasn’t prepared and could barely sleepIs a single foam roll under the sleeping bag enough to stay warm or do you guys also lay down pine branches et cetera?
>>2859158You are an animal lol. On snow I do a sleeping bag on an inflatable on a z pad. It doesn't matter what you pick as long as your r value is at least ~6. Multiple layers stack by addition. You done fucked up bringing nothing at all, no wonder you didn't sleep. You could die doing that man.
Finally got some cold and snow here
>>2859292why tf does it post the picture sideways?
>>2859294Something to do with the formatting, if you make a small edit to the photo like crop a tiny bit I believe it should post the right way up>>2859198Dying is a bit dramatic I think, but I definitely wouldn’t do it again
Lads I'm pretty sold on camping with a 12v heated blanket. Like it takes the edge off for sure and it's far lighter than a tent stove. I use a 100Wh power bank and it will power the blanket for the whole nightBut the problem is it's like a blanket for child, I thought about maybe getting another and sewing them together but either direction makes it too long or not enough.Does anyone do this? Any suggestions on a good blanket?
>>2848380>What, are you scared of a little cold?no but i can't spend fucking 500e on a decent sleeping bag either. maybe next year
>>2860648maybe put it inside a high r value sleeping bag around your core?
>>2848380I used to hate winter camping as a kid. When I went to university I stopped doing it completely and became a purely 3 season camper.Since last winter however, I started introducing it back into the schedule.Just went out for a weekend of camping on Lake Erie in -30 C temps. It was great.
>>2860799Yeah that's what I do and how it lasts, it seems to come on for 20 seconds and go off for a while, it has a temperature thingy in it.But my feet kinda die because it isn't big enough
>>2848380I have this idea to fight condensation by breathing in a pipe that goes outside the tent. But you have to wear mask and connect it to the pipeans isolate it. but the mask could be very uncomfortable.I don't know. One night is enough to get a frost layer on your tent wall from the inside. If it is cold enough and it does. not melt, you can scrape it but still you get snowy frost inside.
