Seems useful for larping. Wonder how else I can use it while/out/. Please share success stories, resources.
what's a good phone for it?
I use it sometimes but only just the map functions to check things. For navigation I mostly use my Garmin.
>>2848572you need an atak server running and other users connected to it to get any kind of actual usefulness out of it.idk what functionality you expect to get out of it solo that isnt better achieved with google maps or all trails or some other app. the whole point of it is collaboration with other assets.t. manage atak in the military

>>2848600I was considering getting a Garmin satt phone, but it's not worth it for me where I fish. However, I am interested in a portable navigational device. What do you suggest?
>>2848600Garmin GPS? Watch?>>2848609I don't use atak besides playing around with it to figure out it's usefulness. This post is helpful. I stumbled across the tech while urban exploring. Someone said it's good for detailed maps.
>>2848639Garmin sat messenger subscription only worth it if you use a lot. I thought about getting one for emergency use but it is better to get a PLB like Ocean signal rescueME PLB1 because it doesn't need subscription. But it is only good for last resort and you can communicate just indicate that you are fucked and need help.If you want a dedicated GPS device for out I don't think you have much option beside Garmin. The cheapest one you can get is the eTrex series. GPSMap series are more expensive but have more feature. The highest category is the Montana series but I'm not fan of touch screens. If you want the cheapest go for eTrex32x. It has altimeter and compass but not Bluetooth. If you need wireles comms, better antenna GPSMap 65s is the way. I recommend device with AA battery not integrated one. Attached a lazy AI comparison table.>>2848666GPSMap66st handheld. I use it for every kind of activity.
>>2848572I’ve used it for throwing a PDF ontop of the GPS maps so I could see my position ontop of the pdf, but these days I just use google earth pro to make a .kmz of the path and throw that into Guru Maps. ATAK has a lot of bloat that you don’t need for going innawoods
>>2848666the maps on atak are as detailed as the maps you upload to it, which you could use on any kind of topography app.
