Do you swim in winter? the ocean doesnt freeze here but gets down to around 7 degrees in january/february at its lowest. today it was 9 and pretty comfy. i go multiple times a week and it has really helped me build up my cold tolerance for all /out/ activities. not to mention strengthening my immune system and easing arthritic and tendonitic pains.
>>2849494i went again today, it was 9.4 degrees and completely fogged in. i could hear a tanker out in the bay blowing its horn periodically but apart from that it was just me the birds and the water. lifes good bros.
>>2849494sad looking boobas, okay thighs thoughbeit
>>2849669thanks for your comment.
>>2849669they're small when it's cold
>>2849494I'd do a cold plunge but no swimming. I can see why you'd want to do this, even a cold shower can do wonders for the spirit, very invigorating.
>>2849666That sounds great.
I hate cold water anywhere other than my hands and face. I love cold and harsh weather, though.
>>2849494butterfaces
I've jumped in lake superior in March, it was pretty choppy too. Probably dangerous but we were sober and there were a few people there, didn't die so good times.
>>2849748it was! ill be going again next weekend~>>2849818i think theyre cute..>>2849827based, honestly the greak lakes sound way more gnarly than the north pacific in winter lol
>>2849883>i think theyre cute..You're wrong
>>2849965different strokes for different folks pun intended, anyway are you swimming in the winter or not otherwise gtfo my thread.
>>2849494ugly faces
Me and my friends go once a week!Great way to brighten your spirits
>>2849669here you go, anon
>>2850526better
>>2850526
>>2850542RuinedI don't mind the previous faces tbdesu, they're not pretty but also not unbearably hideous, and most importantly they look like cheap sluts who will let you do anything for 15 bucks
>>2850517hell yeah brother! i chickened out today cause it was raining too heavy but maybe tomorrow..
>>2849494>strengthening my immune systemThat's not a thing
>>2850620leave it to 4chan to have some pseudo-intellectual douchebag come out of the woodwork and school us with his massive wealth of medical knowledge. enlighten us oh wise one in your deep understanding of cold mitigation strategies
>>2850641It's like saying that XYZ will strengthen your eyesight or your sense of hearing. It's just not a thing. What can happen is that your immune system gets impaired due to various factors like stress, sleep problems, vitamin deficiency, etc. When that happens, you can get it back to normal by addressing the underlying issues, but you cannot strengthen it (nor would you want to).
I'm too scared to do a cold plunge, much less a winter swim. I'm convinced I'd go into shock and drown.
>>2850729I seent it enough times to not ever attempt itSeent it once and that was enough
>>2850729its a normal human response to gasp involuntarily when dunked into cold water lilke that hence why people drown instantly. honestly the repeated exposure has make it to where i dont even flinch when i dunk myself, its pretty cool
>>2849494yesterday was the first day this year that the air temperature (4 degrees) was colder than the water (9 degrees) also ive noticed my balls no longer involuntarily shoot up into my body when i enter the water, so we are making progress
>>2849494>Do you swim in winter?hell NAH
>>2850729>>2850739>>2851950This would happen to me. I've frozen up like that before from exposure to cold air for long enough, like my legs wouldn't turn kick in. I can imagine hitting that cold water and being instantly being too stiff to move haha.
So way back when I was in CEGEP a bunch of my women friends said "hey, let's do a skinny dip in December." So I figured "we build a fire at our beach, strip, run in, run out and get warm at the fire." Turns out building a warm fire on the 9th of December took longer then I thought. Being impatient, I figured "fuck it" and we stripped and ran in. The girls didn't make it past their thighs. I made it to my chest, turned around and time stood still. It took what seemed like an eternity to wade back out of the lake. The fire gave off no warmth. We dressed and made it back to my parent's place. It took about 30 minutes with my feet on the slate under my parent's wood stove to regain full feeling. All that and I didn't really get a good look at their nude bodies.
>>2851980thats what the kids call an epic fail hahasent from my blackberry
>>2851980tabernak!
I'd go swimming more especially that I'm older, but my mom died first year of college, I got a 36 on the ACT and my friend left me in the middle of nowhere to DIE
>>2849818Sometimes I love being faceblind.
>>2849494today it dipped below 9 degrees finally yet strangely the water felt more comfortable than last weekend. i was a little distracted as it was quite windy and it had whipped up a decent surf, the waves were nearly as tall as me so entering the water was a bit of a task. good times though
>>2851989To put it lightly
>>2850526made the faces better>>2850542imagerelated is how (you) do it
>>2850526>>2850542>>2852730so fucking creepy...
>>2849494>strengthening my immune systemYou can't do that. If you could just willy-nilly "boost" your immune system, you would end up with allergies and autoimmune diseases.
>>2852867look here folks, we have another certified medical doctor right here dispensing some official medical science facts for all of us.
>>2852907It's not possible, idiot. You can at best mitigate the risk of infection and make sure your immune system works normally.
>>2853066>You can at best mitigate the risk of infection and make sure your immune system works normally.thats literally boosting your immune system. idiot.
>>2853080>boost /buːst/>verb>to improve or increase somethingBravo, you can't even speak English.
>>2853080Not being malnourished isn't "boosting your immune system"
>>2853090based. that should be the next fishing general OP pic
>>2852867Don't try to use facts or reason on these people. They'd rather believe their bro science.
>>2853292>MUH HECKIN SCIENCE
>>2853292technically improving your immune system from a poor state to a normal state is also "boosting" it
>>2849494Yes, but I've been a bitch and haven't gone yet this winter. Coldest I've done is through a hole in the ice so probably around 2CBut that's psychologically easier than going in the ocean which is around 7C right now and gets down to around 2C at the coldest. It's such an amazing feeling.I don't really swim just float around and dunk a few times.Goals>better feet tolerance (not sure that's even possible, but they always go numb and it's horrible walking through the snow getting in/out)>better head tolerance (feels like a spike going into your head)I'm also really jealous of nordics that have saunas all over the place next to the water, then I would go in and out repeatedly.>>2850729>>2850730>>2850739Do it somewhere shallow and try to find a group.Definitely important not to dunk until you stop gasping and regain control of your breath.
>>2854081>Yes, but I've been a bitch and haven't gone yet this winter. Fuck yeah so I went in today. The water was about 7C. I was only in for a few minutes, just enough to stabilize my breathing and dunk.Any anons on the fence about trying it, watch this guys videos. This gave me the confidence to just go and try it. He says to start in the late summer, but since you missed that opportunity, as did I this year, you can just do it, it's just more of a shock and you might have to get in slower because of hyperventilating.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpIWRypczJ4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YLTFo7Ql-YThe biggest thing is managing the logistics of getting in and out especially if it's cold and windy. You can't get frostbite underwater but as soon as you get out it can be really bad and dangerous quick, so be ready to get dressed and get back to shelter quick if it's really cold out.>>2853292More efficacy than the covid vaxx lol
>>2853305>>2853307>>2854104Thank you for proving my point.
>>2849494Bump. How do you deal with after drop? (when the cold blood in your hands and feet starts circulating after you get out, and that drops your core temp)If I stayed in any longer than a quick dunk I end up shaking really bad until I get in a hot shower and so it makes driving home challenging.I notice most people are / do some combination of>fat>gloves and booties>spend most of the time only up to waist>in and out quicklyIs their some way I can counteract it and get the full experience? Maybe I'll bring a hot drink next time.
>>2854910i usually dont linger, i dry off and then immediately begin a brisk walk. i have to climb up a steep bluffs to get back to the bus stop so usually i have warmed up by the time i make it there. being fat also helps yes lol
This is going to sound absolutely retarded but the memories this thread brought back to me just now give me so much joy and I must share. I will try not to draw this out with too much detail. From the time I was about 12 or so me and my friends would often go disappear in the woods and hang around down the at the train tracks, sometimes wandering for the whole day, dodging authorities and exploring all the interesting ruins and infrastructure along the way. Very Stand By Me.The tracks largely follow a local river, and mostly through the middle of nowhere, and we always loved the river bubbling along like it has for thousands of years. Eventually one summer day we went so far from home and spent so much time /out/ that the sun went down and we had to make it all the way back in the dark, totally unprepared for night. That opened a whole new era of going out into the woods and tracks in the afternoons and evenings, which, as we got older, turned into drinking beers along the tracks sometimes all night long. Now, back to the river. One of my friends loves getting into water once he's drunk, and he started having these episodes where late at night, after a number of beers, he couldn't resist getting into the river in the dark, to enjoy the flow of cold water in complete safe isolation from the rest of the world. This eventually evolved into a "test of manhood" in which we would dare each other to disrobe in the middle of night in the middle of frozen New England winter, and dunk ourselves into the river and whoever could tolerate it the longest would win. We ended up doing this spontaneously many times over the years, and I literally always enjoyed it. The trick was to have no clothes on at all so you could put your dry clothes on afterward and not freeze to death. Once I froze so bad I lost my voice entirely, but it was still fun as fuck.I've done the test'o manhood in both summer and winter, but I've never done it sober.Pickerel.
>>2849494Where did their tits go? Did they freeze and fall off? And wtf is going on with their faces? Holee shit. They must have fallen out of the tree that is used to make the ugly sticks and hit every damn branch on the way down. Fuck me, that's rough.
>>2855637they're 14yo boys :3
