i thought bears normally keep to themselves, but can attack if there's young, or if they get spooked/nervous
i mean, i didn't think they went out of their way to stalk/attack people

There is no weapon you can pull out and use in time to stop the bear as it is on that course thing. The fastest person may be able to get shots on it and the luckiest may even be able to kill it eventually. But it will still land on and maul you before it dies.
>>
>>2849652
Ah yes, because pulling a gun out of a proper holster and aiming is so much easier!

If you get within 20 feet of a bear to begin with you are a moron and have no situational awareness.
>>
>>2849683
You didn't solve it. You turned your entire continent into a shithole. That's cringe bruv.

How exactly is the gun supposed to be faster? That's the point of the webm right?

I practice the shirt lift draw on the range at least 4 times a year. And bro did pretty good.

Grizzlies will hunt people if they're hungry. That hunger ramps up just before and just after hibernation. The less familiar a bear is with humans, the more likely it is to hunt them.
Polar bears will hunt humans at any time of year.
Black bears generally leave us alone, though they can cause problems if they learn that there's good eatin' in going through people's trash.

No. Griz want nothing to do with you. The vast majority of dangerous encounters are people suprising them or getting to close to their food or cubs. They are not very aggressive but they are very defensive.
>Grizzlies will hunt people if they're hungry
its extremely rare that a griz will attack and consume a human.

>>
>>2849652
Surely a device like a clowns flower would work better? It would be worn facing forwards and you could keep the squeezy bit attached to your wrist for a quick squirt.
>>
>>2849880
I wouldn’t have been messing around in that thicket if I hadn’t had the dog but I was not anywhere where bears should be either. I’m guessing it’s mom drove him off and it was out there avoiding the big boys. If you look into the stats there are a shit ton of bear encounters involving dogs. I bring slugs with me now whenever I hunt east of the Snake River.
>>
>>2849880
>>2849873
No, the dog is what brought it on. This is a common scenario of bear attacks. Person lets dog offleash, they charge into brush and startle a bear, bear reacts and attacks dog, person gets involved either trying to save dog or because the dog brought the bear back to them, bear attacks person.
>>
>>2849970
still, assuming there's a bear out there & the person is unaware of it, wouldn't it be a better outcome for the dog to startle it than the person?
or is a lone person more likely to notice it beforehand?
if it's a common scenario, i wonder what would have happened in each case if the person didn't have a dog, that's all
>>2849927
i see
>>
>>2849973
if the person didn't have a dog the bear would have been scared by the human and left they likely would have never interacted.
>>
>>2849926
I’ve been wondering about some kind of pepper filled claymore you can strap to your chest like a suicide vest and deploy with a string pull like a reserve parachute. We had training IEDs with bulbs of them that made a little cloud of flour. Make it spicy and deploy on major impacts and that could do a decent job even if you get caught by surprise. No way you don’t get smoked too but it beats getting mauled to death.
>>2849970
This is accurate. We do have to share the landscape but I intentionally don’t hunt with a dog in the mountains for this reason. The issue usually arises when bears aren’t where bears are supposed to be. If some dipshit takes his doodle hiking off leash around Bear Lake…hey they should have known better.
>>2849973
In the scenario of human and dog walking down trail yes the dog getting eaten is better than a human but dogs and bears are way more likely to fuck with each other than bears and humans. Double edged sword.

I used to live in the woods with a bunch of black bears. Basically there's an old Indian trick where you just pretend you're mistaking them for family members so they don't get self conscious, like if you wander into a group of them just say "oh sorry didn't see you there grandpa" and then just walk away.

Best experience I ever had with them was one morning I woke up to a couple young ones playing tag and splashing around in the water on the other side of a small beaver pond I was camping next to. Worst experience was turning a corner on a trail and running right into a mom and her two cubs. They're basically big puppy dogs though. Grizzlies will fuck you up on the other hand.

is that a fuckin outward facing claymore on his forehead?

>>
I fear mountain lions more than bears. Harder to see, will actually stalk you and will attempt to do so stealthily
>>
>>2851152
And will actually attack you unprovoked. Bears, for the most part, want a reason to attack. Mountain lions will attack with the reason being that they think they can take you (they can).

Are you that same retard who was posting this on /k/ the other day, or are you a different retard?
>>
>>2849970
This literally happened here in Canada just a year ago.
>Couple goes camping with their tiny rat dog
>Dog runs off into the brush
>Spooks black bear
>Black bear starts chasing the dog, the dog runs back to the couple
>Couple uses TWO whole cans of bear spray
>Bear just comes back and kills them and their dog.
Never let your dog wander off in bear country, also bring a gun.
>>
>>2851667
It was a grizzly bear and nobody knows what happened. The dog was found starving a month later or something. They were attacked at camp based on the fact the bear spray was discovered empty at the camp site.
>>
>>2849652
A bear will not attack like that. It will jumpon you at the end.
>>
>>2852255
Maybe it would be better to spray yourself so you are too unpleasant for the bear to jump on?
>>
>>2851667
how could they have determined that course of events if they both were killed?
>>
>>2850431
An animal can’t maul you if its brains are more hole than brain.
>>
>>2849652
You can't just carry bear spray around everywhere. It would be like carrying a 20 oz can of red bull in your pocket at all times.
>>
>>2849715
If it's black, fight black.
If it's brown, lie down.
If it's white, say goodnight.

>>
>>2852480
Clearly you don't know any of Seattle's hobos.
>>
>>2849784
Still most kills come from them being hungry and finding humans to be good eating.
>>
>>2852480
What? You can certainly carry bear spray around when you hiking. its lighter than a gun. They make chest and hip holsters for it.
>>
>>2852492
Incorrect. Most deaths from grizzly attacks are from people suprising them at close range and/or being viewed as a threat to their cubs or food. Very few humans who are killed by grizzly bears are consumed by them. The bears that do eat the body are the ones that get killed for their actions.
>>
>>2849834
sapient point
even though quite possibly
the spray he delivered in the time may
have been enough
It may not want to continue attacking
>>
>>2849697
The rule of thumb standard to achieve for concealed carry of firearms for defense against niggers in the USA is a 3 second draw to shot on target. The bear in that video charged the man in roughly 3 seconds as well. Granted, maybe only the top 1/3rd of USA shooters might achieve the standard and could've landed at least one shot on the bear before it reached them, and there's no guarantee a single shot will stop or deter the bear unless you miraculously dome it perfectly (luck more than skill, but maybe top 1% of USA shooters might be able to pull that off intentionally first try). Training to defensively shoot niggers is actually decent training to defensively shoot bears thoughever, both require low individual trust and high situational awareness along with time sensitive hand-eye coordination training.
>>
>>2849683
Wait until you find that retards purposefully imported bears in the southeastern Alps to play the little happy kingdom of the cutepie bloodthirsty beasts in the forest. As a cherry on top, handgun carry is illegal, rifles strictly for hunting and bear spray is illegal. They have already killed several retards in just a few years, and attacked many more.
Worthless imbeciles with a little bit of power are by far the most dangerous beast.

extremely dishonest comparison as the shooter already has his gun drawn and ready and is anticipating it's use, aside from the fact he is obviously a competitive shooter
Even the guy in the video you linked would not be able to draw and fire in that timeframe in a scenario where his firearm is holstered and he is caught by surprise
>>
>>2853716
is this supposed to make a point?
>>
>>2853748
Jerry could do it holstered too
he's also ancient as fuck so why not count that
>>
>>2853711
Yes, but attacking people was made illegal in the bear laws that were passed in 1976, so he'll be perfectly safe
>>
>>2853748
also jerry is firing a target pistol so he doesn't really have to worry about recoil, and isn't under the pressure of a giant bear charging at him. of course, neither is the guy with the spray, but his scenario is more realistic than a target shooting session.
>>
>>2851436
Italy, Spain and France have bears too. A couple years back a bear from Asturias even crossed border to Portugal. Per capita Romania is like top 3 for most bears in the world.

It's quite astonishing the lack of knowledge that people have about nature on a outdoors board.

Polar bears are the only ursus species that actively hunt humans afaik. The rest figured out that people are mean as fuck and we also have large caliber firearms to kill the shit out of them with. So, I guess all the other bears got the message and went ahead and fucked off.
>>
>>2849715
Black bears are huge pussies. I want to hunt a black bear with a Bowie knife because I know I would fuck that bear's world up. And I would wear it's head as a hat and the rest of it's hide as underwear and socks for the rest of my days.

Honestly if you are worried about a bear charging you head on in open terrain just carry a 12 ft pike so it impales itself. Or maybe a Shepard's hook so you can give the reach around and jab it in the asshole. I bet it wouldn't feel like coming at you then. Unless it's, you know, the other kind of bear.
