now consider that grizzlies normally silently watch you approach then charge completely unexpectedly
>>
>>2849660
is that real?
i thought bears normally keep to themselves, but can attack if there's young, or if they get spooked/nervous
i mean, i didn't think they went out of their way to stalk/attack people

i'm a retard, sorry for poor writing

cool but I live in europe and we already solved bear problem, ngl we solved all wild animals here

There is no weapon you can pull out and use in time to stop the bear as it is on that course thing. The fastest person may be able to get shots on it and the luckiest may even be able to kill it eventually. But it will still land on and maul you before it dies.
>>
>>2849652
Ah yes, because pulling a gun out of a proper holster and aiming is so much easier!

If you get within 20 feet of a bear to begin with you are a moron and have no situational awareness.
>>
>>2849683
You didn't solve it. You turned your entire continent into a shithole. That's cringe bruv.
>>
>>2849652
How exactly is the gun supposed to be faster? That's the point of the webm right?

I practice the shirt lift draw on the range at least 4 times a year. And bro did pretty good.
>>
>>2849709
i figured the point was more "if there's a big 600lb (or whatever) bear charging toward you, spraying it with anything won't help much, and a gun probably won't either"
>>
but it seems unlikely to have a bear CHARGING toward you in the first place

Grizzlies will hunt people if they're hungry. That hunger ramps up just before and just after hibernation. The less familiar a bear is with humans, the more likely it is to hunt them.
Polar bears will hunt humans at any time of year.
Black bears generally leave us alone, though they can cause problems if they learn that there's good eatin' in going through people's trash.

>is that real?
No. Griz want nothing to do with you. The vast majority of dangerous encounters are people suprising them or getting to close to their food or cubs. They are not very aggressive but they are very defensive.
>Grizzlies will hunt people if they're hungry
its extremely rare that a griz will attack and consume a human.

OPs webm is actually terrifyingly accurate. Bear fucked off back to the thicket and we dipped the fuck out but yeah could have been bad.

Jerry Miculek could empty a revolver into it and reload.

dog and the gun
>>
>>2849652
Surely a device like a clowns flower would work better? It would be worn facing forwards and you could keep the squeezy bit attached to your wrist for a quick squirt.
>>
>>2849880
I wouldn’t have been messing around in that thicket if I hadn’t had the dog but I was not anywhere where bears should be either. I’m guessing it’s mom drove him off and it was out there avoiding the big boys. If you look into the stats there are a shit ton of bear encounters involving dogs. I bring slugs with me now whenever I hunt east of the Snake River.
>>
>>2849880
>>2849873
No, the dog is what brought it on. This is a common scenario of bear attacks. Person lets dog offleash, they charge into brush and startle a bear, bear reacts and attacks dog, person gets involved either trying to save dog or because the dog brought the bear back to them, bear attacks person.
>>
>>2849970
still, assuming there's a bear out there & the person is unaware of it, wouldn't it be a better outcome for the dog to startle it than the person?
or is a lone person more likely to notice it beforehand?
if it's a common scenario, i wonder what would have happened in each case if the person didn't have a dog, that's all
>>2849927
i see
>>
>>2849973
if the person didn't have a dog the bear would have been scared by the human and left they likely would have never interacted.
>>
>>2849926
I’ve been wondering about some kind of pepper filled claymore you can strap to your chest like a suicide vest and deploy with a string pull like a reserve parachute. We had training IEDs with bulbs of them that made a little cloud of flour. Make it spicy and deploy on major impacts and that could do a decent job even if you get caught by surprise. No way you don’t get smoked too but it beats getting mauled to death.
>>2849970
This is accurate. We do have to share the landscape but I intentionally don’t hunt with a dog in the mountains for this reason. The issue usually arises when bears aren’t where bears are supposed to be. If some dipshit takes his doodle hiking off leash around Bear Lake…hey they should have known better.
>>2849973
In the scenario of human and dog walking down trail yes the dog getting eaten is better than a human but dogs and bears are way more likely to fuck with each other than bears and humans. Double edged sword.

I used to live in the woods with a bunch of black bears. Basically there's an old Indian trick where you just pretend you're mistaking them for family members so they don't get self conscious, like if you wander into a group of them just say "oh sorry didn't see you there grandpa" and then just walk away.

Best experience I ever had with them was one morning I woke up to a couple young ones playing tag and splashing around in the water on the other side of a small beaver pond I was camping next to. Worst experience was turning a corner on a trail and running right into a mom and her two cubs. They're basically big puppy dogs though. Grizzlies will fuck you up on the other hand.

is that a fuckin outward facing claymore on his forehead?
