I cooked bread on a cast iron today. It was not very good.

What happened?
I've done skillet cornbread before and that worked out OK.
>>
>>2851861
It was too dense, and the salt wasn't evenly distributed.

I had the same issue with bread that I cooked in a dutch oven. I wonder if it's the mix or something.

who else here /cup noodles/ for thanksgiving?

Making bread with fire is a lost art. My best friend's ranch has one of the old wood-fired ranges in it, and attempting to make decent bread in the bread box is kind of tricky.

I cooked an apple pie in a Dutch oven on a campfire this weekend. It kicked ass.

I can't eat them anymore after living off mostly them for a summer. Overdid it, you can say, and now they're just instant heartburn.
Happy Thanksgiving, Anon.

Sounds like the salt killed the yeast.

Here's my little folding grill.

I should buy a new dutch oven. I fucked up and didn't buy the one with the flat lid. It works great for soups on the stove though.

Was watching old Good Eats reruns, and Alton started cooking a flank steak directly on hot coals with no barrier. Anyone ever try that before? I feel like the meat would get caked in ash.
>>
>>2852704
Seems unnecessary when we have sticks laying around.
>>
>>2852704
You have to blow away the ash right before setting the steak on the coals, but like >>2852709 said, there's no point to it unless you have literally nothing to put the steaks on except the coals.
>>

His reasoning was it stops fat flare ups by eliminating the circulation between the heat source and the meat.
