east coast hikes are more hardcore than west coast hikes
>>2852174true
>>2852174I disagree, but I do concede walking long distances on concreate does have its own overhead that differs from hiking on real soil.
>>2852174>walks trails>buys their foodnot hardcore at all
true and giga based
>>2852216I jump over the fence onto the grass at the first chance, so much more enjoyable to walk even on spongy muddy grass. I've never enjoyed walking on artificial material to be honest.
hikes are hikes
>>2852174no
>>2852174>hardcoreHow would you know?
Where do people get altitude sickness in the east?
unless you are talking about solely mount washington then no, not really.
>>2852401This. Divisive tribalism serves only the masters goals.
>>2852402>>2852403>>2852667>>2852674you drive up to a 10,000 feet high parking lot and have switchbacks the remaining 3000 feet your winters are mild and you don't get hit with winds you're not hardcore
>>2852174Hiked for the first time in New Hampshire in September after only ever having hiked in Texas. Shit kicked my ass.
>>2852695>you drive up to a 10,000 feet high parking lot and have switchbacks the remaining 3000 feet That would be Colorado. Colorado is not the West coast, it is practically in the middle of the country.Try going to Washington. Have fun in the North Cascades.
>>2852674>has never hiked in the Adirondacks
>>2852674t. has never bushwhacked through an appalachian heath thicket>>2852725they seem unaesthetic
>>2852705There won't be a response to that.
Hikes as a rule aren't very hardcore. I think both coasts have rock climbing, but the west coast has yosemite, squamish, glaciers, big mountains, and volcanoes. I hear the AT is a worse trail than the PCT, but they're both hikes and thus are easy.
>>2852674Mt. Washington isn't really that bad as far as the trail is concerned. On a bluebird day you can cruise up ammo or jewell in a few hours, but the danger is the weather. I'd rate some of the adjacent trails in the presidential range as harder. Jefferson has some pretty steep trails, 6 Husbands and Kings Ravine particularly. Nothing I've done in the northeast really compares to going up katahdin via cathedral though. Pic is from Hamlin ridge but you can see the route up cathedral on the right side.
>>2852695>colorado is the "West coast">memetakejust tell us you've never hiked in the West instead exposing your retardation for all to see.
>>2853077How does the Cathedral route compare to Knife's Edge? I didn't find Knife's Edge that bad in terms of scrambling difficulty and sketchiness in dry conditions. Way overhyped. Have you done any of the "notorious" routes in Acadia?
>>2852695>your winters are mild and you don't get hit with winds>winters in the northern rockies are mild and it never gets high windsholy fuck. I guess I fell for it
>>2853137don't respond to trolls
>>2853130>How does the Cathedral route compare to Knife's Edge?Cathedral is extremely physical and much more challenging. I agree with you that knife's edge is overhyped, there was one shelf on the left side coming from Baxter to Pamola that was sketchy and the chimney of course but that's it. I'm not a rock climber and I know "scramble" is a technical term but as an outsider that's what I would imagine a scramble to be. If you're gonna give it a shot, some work gloves wouldn't hurt. It's easier than the chimney at the end of knife's edge but much longer. The trail goes right up those 3 buttresses you can see on the right.>Have you done any of the "notorious" routes in Acadia? Not yet.
>>2853167Nice, I'll have to do Cathedral if I ever find myself in Baxter SP again. This online scrambling guide piqued my interest on Cathedral and some of the scrambling routes in Acadia: https://www.newenglandwaterfalls.com/rockscramblesnewengland.php
>>2853196um are there any easy routes with good views that do not have scary stuff?~ 1000 ft elevation gain max plz
>>2853211I've heard good things about the Arethusa Falls and Frankenstein Cliff loop, but its 1600 feet of gain. Haven't done it yet myself, been keeping it in the back pocket for bringing some inexperienced friends. Osceola is a great easy hike, especially if you skip the second peak. Tripoli road is pretty rough though and its unplowed in the winter, lots of potholes and washouts too. The trail itself has a ton of exposed rocks so you need to pay attention but the incline is gentle. I almost choked on that trail this summer, inhaled a mosquito and gagged then vomited and couldn't breath for a few seconds.
>>2853211That's what the Mt. Washington, Mt. Greylock, Equinox Mountain, Mt. Ascutney, Mt. Philo, and Cadillac Mountain auto roads are for anon
>>2853243those are probably all seasonal and jammed with boomers
There’s a dead guy right now on Mt. Whitney. Whitney, which is in the lower part of the Sierra Nevada, is the tallest peak in the lower 48 states. People saw his body so it’s known that he’s dead, but at this point winter is setting in and the mountain will be covered with tons of snow so Search and Rescue has called off recovery attempts because it’s just too treacherous. Meanwhile the dead guys mom has been going on a bunch of hiking groups asking if anyone can find her son because “no one will help us”Is that hardcore enough for you?
>>2853335No that is not hardcore enough for me
>>2853335>Meanwhile the dead guys mom has been going on a bunch of hiking groups asking if anyone can find her son because “no one will help us”That's pretty irresponsible, she doesn't understand the risk that rescuers take. That body isn't going anywhere, so why rush?
