How does /out/ feel about Arkansas/Missouri or the Interior Highlands?
Calciferous biome, endless water, rolling mixed wooded forests. What's your opinion?

Fall was absolutely gorgeous this year, probably due to the rain and extended heat. Ouachita """mountains""" are actually amazing and beautiful during the summer/spring.

I'm quite interested in visiting but I'm still sorting out where the best views are and I want to use my time wisely if I visit since, for me, it will be a 15 hour drive each way.

i went two springs ago. ill probably go this spring. the weather is pretty great late spring. the water is still cold but its probably cold all year since its spring water. the only bad thing i can say about it is the sand in those rivers is so sharp and weird feeling i have to wear river shoes. its like ticklish but also painful?

Most of the Ozarks are eroded plateaus of limestone/sandstone/chert/dolomite. It's why there are so many natural springs - the geomorphology has been shaped by rainwater (slightly acidic) over millions of years creating the caves, hollows, and creeks in the region. Next time you step on a spikey rock, pick it up - there's a good chance you'll find corals, brachiopods, snails, or crinoids. The entire region was a shallow submerged warm ocean millions of years ago.

eroded plateaus are my favorite!

You’re gonna get even fuller. Look at how fast NW Arkansas is growing. I bet you can guess where they’re all coming from

What are the best views in the Ozarks?

No cell service for urbanites to enjoy nothing but logging...

>No cell service for urbanites to enjoy nothing but logging...
same as much of appalachia (+ strip mining)

People from Texas and California according to statistics are driving most of the growth there

There are rivers in dark blue, larger bodies like reservoirs created by dams or wider sections of rivers in light blue, and the arkansas mississippi state line in white but the actual mississippi is much messier than a single line so it looks tangled. All makes perfect sense

Centex here long considered driving up for a weekend or week to hike or shred some mountain bike trails, any recommendations? Other than the obligatory kys fuck off etc

People from California that move to Texas and then get filtered so they move elsewhere.
>>
>>2853418
Arkansas is much more of a filter than Texas

NW Arkansas contains the HQ of Tyson and Wal-Mart, they literally pay people to move there

West Virginia's GDP per capita overtook Arkansas recently. Outside of northwest Arkansas, most of the state feels very forgotten and dilapidated. West Virginia's nature is more beautiful IMO, even though Arkansas bills itself as the Natural State. The forests of the Ozark Plateau tend to be very scrubby and much less impressive than those of Appalachia. Summers are also much hotter. But the Ozark people are quite friendly to visitors, unlike West Virginians (who tend to be sullen and suspicious of outsiders poking around).

I don't care to travel to these parts of the country, I'd rather spend my money in my community. Unfortunately we get a lot of tourists in my part of the country which I wouldn't mind if they were better behaved.

> The forests of the Ozark Plateau tend to be very scrubby
there's PLENTY of scrubby forests in appalachia, especially where they were sloppy with quick-logging in wind-exposed areas/ridgelines

> But the Ozark people are quite friendly to visitors
seems nice!
>who tend to be sullen and suspicious of outsiders poking around)
don't I know it, it's also more this very superficial niceness that vanishes the second you do anything cross to them and then they turn into a whole nother person and flip out at you with no in between

anyways, where 2 go in the Ozarks?
