> be me> Practice charting time.> take a lot of time taking measurements around my basement.> Take measurements back to charting table.> Absolutely fucked. > Repeat measurements repeat charting.> Still fucked.> Drop pen in frustration > North changes.> That was several hours of my life.

I do this as a job, it's called surveyingDon't use a compass inside a building, if you need a bearing reference get a point outside and find it's bearing to a point inside, ideally straight north, and then turn that angle using like a protractor under a string line to get the bearing of your first indoor line to the next point
>>2854435I did shit myself this morning. Anyways. Even at my best I am still not really nailing it with this thing. It's fun as hell though.
>>2854443It's really just practicing the steps. I know they compass is getting pulled all over the place. It is shocking how far off I still am no matter how careful I am when doing it. If I had steady instruments I would be closer but some of these are of by 2 or 3 feet. I plan on doing the radio towers in town next, but I am not sure if the mistakes are exagorated on the smaller scale or if they will get worse when I go to a large scale. i really hope the relative accuracy goes up with scale.
>>2854443waaait wait wait waitso let me get this straightOP posts on /out/ and essentially OP wants to create mapsfor the purpose of which OP probably got a compass delivered using amazon primeOP then tries to, using a compass, draw a map of his domicile, fails, throws a fit and gives up?Pottery.
>>2854478>OP learns somethingLOL! What a loser retard.
thought it was a fart but it was a poo. thanks for making this sharting general
>>2854478Honestly figuring out your pen is not aluminum would be annoying as hell.
>>2854433Went out and started trying to find the distance of some radio towers I can see at night. All my measurements are less than or just at 1° I might need a different compass to get fine readings.
Circumstance of a circle of a with a radius of 1 mile, then decide that number by 360. I thing I was taught it's a ruff 175 feet. If the best resolution you can get is 1 degree than that is like the minimum inaccuracy you will see when using radio towers that can be many many miles away. Your pocket compass isn't for charting it's for navigating. Given a good map that same compass can give you your location with greater accuracy.
Daily reminder that George Washington started the French and Indian war while "practicing surveying".
>>2854809Daily reminder that wood toothed nigga named his last ditch defensive point "fort nessisary" with the only locked door being on the liquor shack.

>>2854433Sorry for off-topic but where can a European get himself a legit Cammenga 3H compass? Everything seems to be fake including """their""" Amazon store.
>>2854809He was part of the British regiment that fired the first shots of the war at the French.
>>2855515Not off topic at all. Idk but now I want to look into that question.
