What is the most hardcore hobby and why is it cave diving?
I was reading about the guy who died in the sinkhole cave in Florida, I forget the namebut there were ALL these different theories as to how he died or where he isranging from that he got eaten by alligators, or that he was killed by the owners/workers of the dive shop for some reasonand he had figured out how to pry open the gate that led to the narrowest parts of the cave, and I guess every so often there's a restriction that's really narrow and you would need to squeeze through and maybe even take off your air tanks and maybe he got caught in thoseand the dive shop workers eventually opened the gate for him the night he disappearedand he made maps that were very detailed of the caveand he was from a rich family so he basically had the money to just cave dive but he wasn't officially certified and maybe he just pushed too hard and got caught in a creviceand one person wrote that they'd been to that cave and it was really boring and linearand the guy who worked at the dive shop wrote a long comment about the guy who died and how they knew himI like show caves with lighting....but cave diving is for crazy people
>>2854623>I like show caves with lightingI'm fine with natural caves but flooded mines and shit are freaky because they're so devoid of life. Just crystal clear deep water with nothing else. There's an abandoned flooded quarry that I've been to. Already uncanny when you get there because there's no mud, no aquatic plants or tiny fish swimming around. I waded out and it's two or three feet deep until a sudden drop off into nothingness. According to a sign there it dropped down to about 70 or 80 feet deep. Every cell in my body was telling me to get the fuck out of the water.
>>2854619its not it's solo alpine climbing
>>2854619naw, that's just shit (((losers))) say to keep all the mad loot for themselves.
>>2854687t. cave
Robinson helicopters
I'm certified GUE and do cave diving.I feel like its not that hardcore its just one of those things that if you fuck up and not take shit seriously, you die which encompasses a lot of overhead diving anyway (decompression diving, wreck diving etc.Alot of the danger can be avoided by not doing dumb shit (going into Sumps, not using a guide line, not managing air/gas supply, intentionally restricting yourself in squeezes and getting stuck and not using redundant light sources etc. It's just expensive as fuck (re-breathers are like $10k) not to mention the time and training. If you feel like your getting an adrendlean rush shit is going bad already.
>>2854619kiddy shit, my hobby is more hardcore
>>2855410Experience and expertise mean little https://youtube.com/watch?v=e4qOLMyiaCU
>>2854623You’re talking about the Ben McDaniel incident at Vortex Spring. Whole thing reeks of foul play.
>>2854974Yeah at least you don’t have to worry about mast bumping in a restriction.
>>2855410A fellow GUE diver? On 4chan? I’ve never seen a more precise diagnostic tool for autism. On a serious note, what this anon says absolutely checks out. You have to be absolutely clearheaded in a cave, because kneejerk panic and an inability to solve problems will kill you fast as fuck in a cave when an issue occurs. Open circuit is still an option for cave diving, though, but becomes a huge pain the ass and wallet when you are doing deeper dives and selling your kidney for trimix. Get into this diving seriously enough and a 10k JK becomes a hefty but profitable investment.
>>2854703found the (((looser))), sitting on his pile of loot (((he))) refuses to share
>>2854619Going outside and talking to women is pretty scary
>>2854619its base jumpingt. cave diver
>>2854625Sounds like a great place to play Alien Overlord and start experimenting with terraforming.
>>2855779There was a really cool video of two guys jumping from the Stratosphere in Vegas but they took it down for legal reasons and not sure where you can get the whole thing. The basics of it:>2 guys gut a giant teddy bear, pack their chutes inside.>take elevator to the top with the girlfriend carrying the teddy bear.>go into bathroom, pull out chutes, gear up and do a mad dash for the outside.>climb over railing before staff realize whats going on, jump and float around the strip.>land in parking lot, cops are already there waiting.>do not pass go, go directly to jail. They gopro'd the entire thing but all the clips I find nowadays just cover the elevator and bathroom, they stop after they climb the railing and jump.
>>2854619Wingsuit in the mountains seems like the ultimate experience. Like what beats that?Base jumping are more like adrenaline junkies pushing their luck, same with idiots climbing and doing parkour on skyscrapers. You're playing with death.Cave diving, very dangerous if you're dumb, push your luck or just unlucky. Extreme caving in tight spaces is also crazy, at least there's a higher chance of rescue and survival than diving.
>>2855501Gue is a cult but they have relatively cheap training for conventional tech diving and at least they know their shit.Whats culty about them is they obviously push their gear HARD and no other experience or training counts. I litterally was told to take my gear, LAR (modifed) rebreather, my aqualung, Zegal rangersband BCs, CSAV and regulators into the dumpster. Nor that my PADI, SSI or Navy training counts (Our way is the only way).Eitherway I dont give a shit what "clan" people are part of when they teach just that the teacher is good and. It a shithead.GUE has this super standardized way of thinking to minimize risk with exponentially depreciating gains. Thats find but there is no such thing as a one size diving solution for every dive thats retarded.I.e im not going to use an extended hose coiled around my neck in a non-cave over head dive, same deal with using tec gear or techniques for taking meme photos in 30ft of tropical water at beachside resort.
>>2856028>GUE is a cultYou’re entitled to your opinion but this makes me wonder if you paid attention in fundamentals. There’s a method to “most” of the madness. Equipment standardization makes diving way safer whether in open water or in an overhead environment- when everyone is on the same page your dive is much more organized, safer, and enjoyable.PADI and SSI suck ass with their standards. I’ve taken classes under both agencies. It’s pay-to-play and egregiously substandard. Doesn’t mean I agree with everything… heliox on OC for a 105ft dive is prohibitively expensive and retarded in my opinion, but the idea behind it is to minimize the effects of nitrogen narcosis with severe task saturation.
>>2856028Trimix I mean
>>2854619I'm a certified master diver, and diving in general isn't dangerous at all as long as you know your own limits and know proper techniquebiggest reason why cave/wreck diving is so dangerous (and I was guilty of this too) is that there's a very strong pull to go in those places before you're actually skilled enoughopen water diving is very pretty, but for the more adventurous people you'll very quickly as guides to go into caves and wrecksthe biggest issue is when those people decide to fuck around and find out on their own
>>2855499The whole thing is nonsensical. The evidence heavily suggests that he wasn't even in there. He was definitely murdered and his body is stashed somewhere but why?
>>2856949The staff at Vortex Spring at the time was quite sketchy. Read up on what ultimately happened to the (former) owner as well as the nonsensical staging of tanks in the cave that Ben “placed” there. Too many coincidences and a plethora of circumstantial evidence for me to buy into the narrative. Not even Edd Sorenson could find him in that cave and no evidence of a decomposing dead body when the water was tested in the days after his disappearance.
>>2856942Dive industry also largely treats proper open water curriculum as a joke and does not set up divers for success. I have met and know instructors and “divemasters” that do not even have a rudimentary grasp on buoyancy, trim, or propulsion.
>>2855863>rescue and survivalTFW
>>2854619putting yourself in stupid situations where in the end its your own stupidity or a simple equipment failure that kills you isnt hardcore. it got a certain bravery to it but more a total lack of risk assessment. they dont actually know how dangerous their hobby is and they do it for fun. true bravery is different, its when you know its dangerous, you dont want to do it but have to anyway.
>>2857021kek
>>2857047Wrong. Appropriate cave diving involves a great deal of training and built-in redundancy (lost line drills, meticulous gas planning, etc). Nearly all of the fatalities you read and hear about are a consequence of poor judgement and lack of said training.
Free climbing is probably more dangerous. That being said simply operating your car on the highway is statistically more dangerous than just about anything you can do
>>2857072isnt that exactly what i said? they dive for fun and theit deaths are due to poor planning, in most cases adhd adrenaline junkies not following procedures. imagine jamie and hyneman diving during mythbusters.
>>2857081Your post insinuates that you see all cave divers in that regard without separating the goobers that go into a cave with no training.
