>>2855608Funnily enough, unrelated to OP, but I was on a short hike the other day, kinda one of those "hills near the suburbs" natural areas / parks - just an easy way to get outside for a few hours - it was about 10F out and I ran into someone wearing these. They were black, the African immigrant variety, fwiw.
>>2855589You can't leave town without a rifle. You can't get a rifle without a permit. It is much easier to just hire a guide than get a permit, unless you already live in Norway and have a gun permit.
>>2855608White after Labor Day? You're trying to get the man killed! He should wear these classic mountaineering boots instead.
Oops forgot the pic
>>2855589get a bear gun, its even mandatory if you leave the city. if you got some kind of proof that you are gun capable or eligible in your home country you can even rent them at the airport but they will be old krags in 6,5, they still kill a bear but the guys truly living in the wild there carry 308 rifles and 44 mag revolvers as backup, minimum.
>>2855589multiple space blankets, use ethanol or methanol for stove not gas. bring snow shoes, air mattress, light shovel to make snow walls, flares. How long are you going hiking
>>2855668>snow shoesyou dont bring nor need them in the cold north, you use skis. somehow this knowledge hasnt spread around the world but snow shoes has? i live in an area that get svalbard level of snow, i own a set of snowshoes but i rarely use them if ever. last time was me snowmobileing into some lake to ice fish, i quickly learned that it was easier to move around without snowshoes.if you ever done winter war training in the mimitary you know this.snow shoes are a meme.
>>2855589whatever you do, don't bring snowshoes
>>2855589sunglassesor headtorch
>>2855589I saw a youtube video about this place. They have "no guns inside the store" signs on every store because everyone has guns because if you don't have a gun, a bear will eat you. The guy making the video didn't even venture out of the village because there were warning signs that bears will eat you if you go past the signs. There are no trees.
>>2855697why not?
>>2855815a coworker of mine did a few tours to the desoltate islands surrounding svalbard, norrway got weather and radar stations there. he where dog sledding on his time off one day and got tired of the krag rifle on his back hitting his head on every bump, so he took it of and put in on his sledge, and right there the dogs took off and ran home with the sledge, rifle and all his gear. and he had to walk home in icebear land, unarmed, no gear, nothing. it was just a 5km walk or so but plenty of time to get eaten by ice bear.yes svalbard has these signs at stores and its one of few if not the only airports where you can rent a gun.
>>2856033Wow.
>>2856035i dont really enjoy telling other peoples stories here, they should be telling them themselfs but they are boomers who can barely read a newspaper on their phone. im lucky enough that i work with some of them boomers and when its suited i tell their story. that guy btw, his tour was at hopen radio (google maps it) with some detours to bjørnøya, jan mayen and svalbard. and he didnt tell his wife about it>im going for work>when will you be home?>in 14months...for the stories and experience, you should look up such guys and listen to them.
