I am looking at a 10 day trip. Post your staples, your ideas and your critique.

I think my breakfast is solid. I call it an oat bomb.
>100g rolled oats, 20g whole milk powder, 20g desiccated coconut, 20g brown sugar, 10g chia seeds
That's almost 750cal for breakfast. Prepared before the trip and ready to go as individually stored 170g dry mix in a zip bag.

Lunch looks like this
>2x 6inch flatbread, 100g dry aged salami, 60g hard cheddar cheese, 20g crushed pumpkin seed, 10g chia seeds
That's a 1000cal lunch, 6 inch bread because it fits in the frypan better meaning I can make a quesadilla by sealing both together with cheese, or I can make two smaller wraps. The crushed pumpkin and chia seeds end up in the melted cheese. Proper dry aged salami so that it lasts the trip and the cheese should be dry aged too, 'sharp' or 'vintage', cut in half and vacuum sealed. I am going with pumpkin seeds as they beat most nuts pound for pound and crushing them doesnt turn them into a butter type thing.

Dinner;
I am unsure what to do here. It wont be a heavy dinner it can be smaller than lunch. I am still pondering this one. Whatever I decide on will likely be a mix of the things I am already carrying. Possibly a mini pizza using the 6 inch flatbread.

i've only done 3 or 4 days but some other things i've done:
canned lentils
ramen
regular pasta with tuna can and tomato sauce
always carry energy bars, nuts (almonds or whatever mix you like) chocolate and some candy for snacks
sandwitch but out of real bread, with good things inside. there is no word in english

Yeah, this is an important question.

How many of those 10 days are you gonna be hiking and how many just camping?
If you're gonna be on the move for the majority of the time then I'd be reaching for peanut butter, macadamia nuts and the most calorie dense dehydrated meals you can find.
If you're driving or hiking for just a couple of days then setting up camp you have a lot more flexibility.

If you're planning on carrying all that every day for 10 day backpacking, forget about it.

This oxidizes the milk fat, presumably. Which is bad for you.
Nonfat milk powder is harmless however.

The add-hot-water dehydrated meal packs are a staple for a reason imo. Is recommend them.

I invented the oat bomb because I went through a bad financial situation and I'm pretty autistic which is actually a benefit here because I like routine. It took a bit to get used to but that is what I eat for breakfast everyday now lol.

It is an off trail hiking trip where I am looking for rare orchids. I am expecting to move at a pace of 0.5k per hour which is 0.3 miles per hour. Not hard hiking slow moving and examining plants as I go. The total weight with food is just over 20% of my bodyweight but still under 25% it will be a hard one but I believe I can do it.

I have not factored in dinner to my total weight but I am expecting to supplement my food with foraged goods. I will forage the berries and leaves of edible plants that are known to me as a snack. It is realistic that I could harvest 500g of berries per day.

Really? If you say so.

Even assuming the nutrient density of something like raspberries or blueberries that would still only be ~250cal/day.

10 days of dinner will be a not insignificant increase in weight.
A bag of walnuts, brazil nuts and macadamias is about 650cal/100g. That's going to be your lightest option but I'd balk at eating 150g of nuts for dinner 10 days in a row.

Although this means my salt intake is pretty high. I will be sweating but not exhaustion level. Maybe actually.. higher cheese content + pumpkin and chia seeds with a 40g of salami.

Obviously I dont want to spend all day picking berries but in this area the blackberries have taken over I have this hook harvester + a thin sheet so I can tear them off pretty quickly.

where is your oil?
simply add a bunch of olive oil to everything you eat, or tallow but I suppose it's somewhat messier.
oils are really easy to add to meals without making them taste bad, especially healthier oils like some good olive oil
get something that can soak up some oil, like your oats, add 60ml of oil to your morning oats, it will taste fatty but it's not bad at all, olive oil is quiet easy on the stomach and tastebuds
some peanut butter with high peanut content will also help out(I like 80% peanut content more than 100% peanut content, 100% is too oily and it makes for messy eating)

a roman soldier would often make do on bread, wine, and oil

also consider jerky, it's not extremely calorie dense but it is very nutrient dense which combined with carrying a lot of oil is easy peasy good nutrition

Okay so everyday if you don't just lay in bed and move at all you burn around 2100 calories. For me I always try to run atleast a slight deficit on trips like this so your probably good if you can float somewhere between 2500-2700 a day with the activity level you've explained. Obviously you can run a deeper deficit for 10 days so don't worry if it seems unattainable I would just suggest trying to get atleast 2500 as you'll likely feel better and stronger for the entire trip that way.

Also desu at 23bmi you could also eat a bunch the week before you go and get closer to 25bmi so you have more baseline to waste off.

If I'm going on a long trip I take meal replacement shakes. Might as well take the diet variety in fact, lose some weight while camping. They certainly feel like I'm eating something, not drinking something, and are packed with vitamins/minerals. I can chuck a bag of it in my pack and have 14 full meals for hardly any space/weight. Then when I return I look like the picture of health from the nutrition, exercise, fresh air and good forest sleep.

I keep thinking maybe I'll try military rations but no real need.
