What do you guys do for food on backpacking trips? I'm specifically soliciting advice on healthier prepared (as opposed to pre-packaged) meals that are filling but light on the digestive system, I am poor so can't afford freeze dried whatever, just need some recipes that won't make me shit my pants since I have IBS and am poor and retarded.

I do mostly 2-4 nights out at a time and my food is usually some combo of:

Breakfast:
Granola or oatmeal.
Dried fruit
Nuts
Instant coffee

Lunch:
Parmesan cheese
Peanut butter
Tortillas or bread depending on length of the trip
Proteins (see below)
Refried beans pouch or similar shelf stable things. I found decent shelf stable tamales.

Dinner:
Rice or pasta side. I put them in a tupperware or a snacker bag (silicone heat save bag), boil water, and dump it in. Then I either have a reflectix koozie for the tupperware or just a piece of it to wrap around the bag while it heats up for 10-15min. Can honestly just take regular pasta and seasoning.
Bag of dried veggies (I buy the #10 cans of dried veggies for soup mix and such)
Proteins (see below)
Hot chocolate packets
Herbal tea (Warm beverage without caffeine or sugar)

Proteins:
Dry salami or pepperoni
Beef jerky
Spam pouches
Tuna pouches

Other:
Various fruit bars and granola bars. Nothing special, 3 dollar a box aldis ones are fine.
Bag of pretzels(I crack them and let the air out, leave on top of pack)
Anything else that can be consumed on the go without prep. At least something every hour or so.
Electrolytes. I like the Liquid IVs but the Nuun ones are very cheap, like 25-30 cents per tablet if you buy a box or under a buck if you buy individual tubes. If I'm sweating at least every other liter.

Basically during the morning and day I breaking camp quickly and minimum time spent prepping food during the day, no more than a knife to spread or cut stuff. At camp I will sometimes start heating stuff up, set up shelter, and then it's ready by the time I'm done. I want a bigger meal so my body recovers overnight for tomorrow's hike. In cold weather I can get more creative because things won't spoil especially on the first night. Talking whole ass hoagie with the fixings.
