Could (you) manage to climb a slightly muddy hill without needing rescue?>Social media posts often show the Highland cows and panoramic views, but rarely reflect the physical effort or preparation required to reach them.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjrz972lg84o
The mighty Butser Hill, dare (you) attempt it?
The hill is covered in gorse and conditions can change rapidly. I'd recommend we all sit this one out.
>>2859920I work in one of the harshest biomes and had to get rescued from the cairngorms one time.
Worse case use wire under my boots for traction otherwise no boots and drop weight/be prepared to get muddy?

>>2859921Looks like it would need a base camp, a several attempts in a good weather from different sides and prior altitude adaptation since its 889ft but its totally doable by an experienced team.

>>2859921You laugh, but some londoner who sees a funny clip on tiktok and decides to go with sneakers in the late afternoon without checking the weather is doomed without knowing it.

>An annual Fell Run called the Butser Hill Challenge involves running up and down the hill three times.>Despite challenging conditions, the individuals were swiftly located using the what3words app to narrow down their location. So they had phone coverage, on a hill one hundred and fifty metres tall, people run up and down three times, and couldn't find their way down? That's really not very cleverly done of them.
>>2861072>Butser Hill Challenge>South Downs National parkIt asks so many questions like how but I guess you can get lost on the big chalk if you take the wrong path somehow?

>>2860859This is 100,% what happened. One of my favorite day hikes out here in Oregon is hiking out to Tunnel Falls. It's maybe 12 miles round trip (I usually go further down the trail to find a quiet place to sit and eat whatever snack I brought, so 15ish for me), but it's pretty easy. The last time I went, the TikTok kids had discovered it; there were kids sitting in the middle of the trail at the falls, which effectively blocked the trail, since it's so narrow (see pic, they were sitting to the right of the falls), forcing me to essentially step over them. On my way out, I passed a very out of shape woman, maybe a mile from the trailhead, who asked me if she was almost there. It was late enough in the day that I didn't think she was going to make it to the falls, and if she did, she's be returning to her car in darkness. I ended up giving her the rest of my water, because she was already out, and she mentioned that TikTok brought her here from New Jersey.
