Went fishing for the first time since September, I guess this counts. The river hasn’t done down yet from the rain so it took some challenge to find a spot that looks still but oxygenatedI managed to find a bunch of gar hiding not far from where I snagged this lil guy but I’ll be damned those boys don’t give two shits about any of the bait I had. Granted I’ve never fished or even seen gar but I thought I’d at least try with the spinners I was using. Gonna stop by that spot with some crank and rattle bait next time

When looking at potential fishing spots what do you guys do in terms of pre scouting the areas? Do you look at free online depth charts + Google maps? I fish from the bank so I don't think depth charts would be much use to me

You can also pre scout areas you want to fish by going out on low water days to find submerged cover to then fish later when the water levels are back up.

Tying a good fg is tedious and I'll give my whole routine to explain whyRod up in a holder so I can use the flex to hold tension, braid wrapped around non dominant pinky so I can tie with my other fingers. Mono in dominant hand do the over/under to get anywhere between 10-20 wraps- this will depend on the specific lines being joined- then I'll do 2 half hitches, tighten with my teeth, then slide and roll the fg so it's all right and clean, then put on gloves so I can wrench it down until it darkens and impresses the mono. Gloves off, tie Rizzuto finish on the braid, gloves on, wrench until it darkens, and then trim with nail clippers. Takes a full 5 minutes.Pic is 8lb mono joined to 6lb braid, I usually use 20lb braid, I've done it up to 100lb braid to weedwacker line for shark rigs. I do this once every dozen trips or so. What are the best cheap jigs for Keitechs or any flimsy soft plastic? I've used screwlocks and the standard type with a nub. I'm thinking wire keeper, but I'm not sure it will work well or if there are any favorite brands.

Thanks for the comments guys. I went with the alberto and I am happy as it resolved my issue of feeling the knot (double uni) through my guides. Perhaps the fg is 'better' but I'll stick with Mr. Alberto for now.
