does anyone have experience with a fully torn mcl? my acl is barely holding up but survived

it’s been like 4-5 weeks and i just got the brace because i didn’t have the time to get it checked and when i did an MRI at 3 weeks in i was like oh whoops and it took me one more week to speak to my doc about it

it’s so depressing to be at home without being able to do anything that’s more than a walk to the supermarket

Get a cadaver graft, PRP and stem cells. It'll be good as new

auston matthews is that you?

You can get exoskeletons for your legs that are essentially muscle assistance, but very strong. They can make it seem like you arent even lifting your legs.

With a fucked ACL and MCL this is a life time injury. I am guessing you play football?

my doc recommended me PRP so i’ll get that

i wont need surgery at all according to him

life time injury? really? that’s worrying. my doctor said i’ll be fine next winter when i do a good rehab

not football, i’m a park skier

fucked up a mute grab and stabbed twisted the ski right into the snow (fuckass bindings didn’t even release)

Torn ACL, and quad tendon.

Go slow, but don't let yourself lose flexibility. Do lots of gentle stretching to kelp keep motion in the joint.
It will take months if not years for things to feel normal. Even then, you'll have days where you need to wrap the knee or wear a brace.
I had to cut out a lot of stuff, downhill skiing (was on a ski team) and backpacking are over with.
That being said I've gotten more into slower things like fishing and car camping.

NTA

Generally, incomplete tears and isolated complete tears without objective instability can be treated non-surgically with early functional rehabilitation and usually result in full return to normal function. Some patients have chronic issues but they are very much in the minority.
The treatment of combined complete MCL + ACL tears is controversial. Different centres advocate different treatment protocols and the evidence is not clear either way. Some studies show better outcomes after surgery, others show worse or no difference. You could ask to be reviewed by a surgeon, if you haven't been already, so he can assess the minutiae of the injury and discuss pros/cons of operative vs conservative management but at 4 weeks post injury I expect most of them would just say 'wait and see'.

Honestly I think the other replies are overreacting, you're gonna be fine as long as you rehab it well. I had 3 knee surgeries from college sports (ACL, lclx2, meniscus) and I still do everything I want to do outdoor wise.
