Pic related isn't bad, have used in the snow, it's light, compact, though it has a long startup time to light the charcoal. I've thought about making my own with lump charcoal (faster lighting, burns hotter) and maybe bigger trays if I can find them.. or just multiple trays. They're standard alfoil tray size so I can reuse the stands if I diy. But probably pita to get the fuel ratio right where it'll light completely.

I've looked into others like the everdue cube/cube 360, basic hibachi grill.

Saw the lotusgrill hybrid, got excited until I saw you have to change inserts to switch between gas and charcoal eg no lighting charcoal with the gas or using both. Classic is lighter and charcoal only and allegedly lights charcoal in 4 min which is great but then again, will the fuel be sufficiently burner off to be able to start cooking?

Do you guys have any preferences?

The alfoil bbq probably still necessary for some things, notably if I'm doing a short hike with a pack of equipment already and want a lightweight cooking option. But I definitely feel like I need a decent portable upgrade for all other situation

Those aluminum trays are always stupidly expensive when I see them at the grocery store. I went to buy one so I could make lasagna for a friend and it was cheaper just to buy a glass pan. I just gave it to my friend like that and told him to keep the pan.
