>>2866250Self made gear is cool.I remember my first camelpack was a detergent bottle with a hose length coming out of it to my mouth. It tasted soapy no matter how much I rinsed it haha
>>2866312I get smell/taste out of lids by letting them sit out in the sun, likely the UV destroys whatever bonded to the plastic/rubber.

Got it today, it looks pretty nice. You can load it up with coal and there's space for some small flat tools. It also just fits right into 30cm wide vacuum bags, so you can make it waterproof as well.
>>2866441have you tried cooking on it yet?
>>2866443Maybe tomorrow or Sunday, idk.

>>2866443I tried it out. Main issue was getting the damn briquettes to burn, it looks like only one was doing its job properly. The other pieces were half-assing it at best. The heat wasn't stellar, but enough to grill two sausages. The meat afterwards (2x) cooked as well, but without any grill flavor. It seems like the airflow isn't so good. I'm considering making a small grate to put in the coal tray so there's room for ashes to drop and the starter to burn without being smothered. Maybe I should mix coal and briquettes, or bring more. I later blew on it with a small portable fan, maybe I should have done that right away.I conveniently broke an extensible back scratcher some days ago, so I'll bring it next time to have something to blow air under the coals. Some way to level the grill would also be good, a couple of tent pins should do the job (I used twigs this time).Coal issues aside, it's good. Didn't warp or chip, cooled down quickly. Will try again next time it's sunny.
