Caught my second endangered mussel. Yet to catch a single fish jigging because I'm a rookie. Kind of annoyed but I can't be mad.

>>2878829Sounds like you've got the right idea. What retrieves are you trying? My go-tos are usually a steady swim retrieve, a lift and drop retrieve, or a snappy retrieve. Sometimes a steady bouncy retrieve does well. Id also probably be using a white curly tail but i don't think it matters that much. Also, if you're getting follows, a slight downsize might convince a hesitant bite- in a pinch you can literally just cut a centimeter off the nose of your grub to make it smaller.

Do you think my fluoro leader being about 10 inches could be an issue? Sometimes I've seen fish check out the spinning metal part where the braided line meets the fluoro line.

Today was the final day of my trip. Late start again. Fishing was slow and difficult. However, I got this big bow to bite. My PB. I thought it was a 20, so I went to crazy lengths to measure it. Turned out to be only 17. It got dark, and it sounded like a human baby was nearby. Kind of creepy.

With my desire to learn baitcasters undeterred from birds nests, I picked up a Pflueger casting combo today, a PRESLP701, for about $110.7' one piece rod, full cork handle (like i like), medium-heavy, fast action. Came with the PresidentLP reel, 6.5:1. Havent done much besides finger fuck yet, but it feels smooth. The lock tab is a bit stiff, gonna carefully disassemble and get some better lube in before i spool it up.Gonna use the 15# spider wire braid i got handy, and the birds nest i trashed the other day will get used to practice alberto knots with a roll of old ass trillene i found hiding in the shed.Pflueger reccs i start with 20# braid, but for learning (and catching stickfish) 15 should be ok.
Only catch today but any day on the water is a good.

Looking more at boats, I can see that they are definitely not worth it for me. I mostly fly fish in areas you can only wade. Boats are just so expensive and require so much upkeep. It would be nice to go out on a friend's boat once in a while, but there's no way I'm going to think about buying one for a long time to come.

Tell us more and post pictures. Unless it's an Amazon rod, you probably got a great setup. Fly line is a lot more important than people realize. It could be worn out and needs to be replaced.

i just recently got into carp fishing because of stories of elders eating carp back in the daymy great grandpa fishing about anything he could to put food on the table and my grandma eating carp among other thingsmy cousin's great grandpa fishing carp at his lake cabin and having a U shaped deck with a carp enclosure in the middle, having a deal with the local fishmonger and butcherso i got my first solo carp at 7.5kg on my penn 710 greenie, made filets and will try a bunch of recipes for my culinary culture
also had a pretty ok setup, the change of pace was nice, i think i get why brits are autistic about carp
