Do gay army shit and hate the issued rucksack. But I also do some personal outdoor stuff more and more frequently so looking at getting a new one for both personal and work purposes.
Anyone got recommendations? I’ve narrowed my current selection down to the Crossfire cf4, Eberlestock Terminator XL, or Eberlestock battleship but willing to take others that have similar capacity

I despise the army rucksack but you have to admit, you can stuff them to the density of a neutron star without them ripping. If I did the shit I did to my current civilian ruck that I did to my army ruck, like stand in it (on top of all my shit) and jump up and down while pulling the opening, it would rip into pieces. After years of doing that of course they'll rip but fairly new army rucks are strong. They just need better padding and a rack that doesn't stab you in your fucking back

cool thread. So here are my thoughts:

Battleship is clearly the budget item, it doesn't have side pouches which will hold items securely so it's out unless you're poor. Terminator looks very solid with the two rocket pouches and lower rear food pouch, that's more the style I'm comfortable with. CF4.... has more features, more side pouches, dedicated radio and hydration system ports. It looks kind of cumbersome but is probably the best dedicated mill system kit.

So personally based on my experience, you just need what is good enough. Terminator does that with less fiddly stuff, although the high peak extension of the backpack looks ridiculous. I would pick that one for general use hiking unless you have a specific dedicated role requiring the CF4, which is a great bug out option that also seems to be trying to do too many things at once. Also the Cf4 having zipper down the middle of the back means it will inevitably fail in the field and begin to unzip if you pack it in heavy. Which is inevitable as well

>cheap mode option: british army bergen. Costs less and just werks without the stupid tiny pockets the alice has

Bump: Someone help me with this, im trying to decipher the worth of the eberlestock pack listing.

Pic explanation: I was temporarily issued a CTS ruck for use on ex steadfast warrior. This shit sucks yo. Its not badly designed its just heavy and outdated. Shit is 10lbs empty. The ex was very rainy

P.S. The CTS ruck seems good if it was only strapped to an armoured vehicle to be moved around. It has huge storage and a huge valise compartment too. The only trouble is I'm in a light infantry unit.

Issued with an alice
