I used to hang around here about 15 years ago. How's this place doing?

Here's some of the last negatives I got, shot a couple weeks ago.

>>
>>4452612
OP here. Actually you're right, even with X-Transformer, after the final sharpening there's still some traces of the Fuji worms.

It's not a problem unless you're inspecting at over 200% and on prints larger than 5x7, often even 8x10.

That being said, yeah, I see it. It's an inherent issue with the Fuji sensor but not a dealbreaker. When I can I'll move on to Sony for scan.

Also, as I should expect, it's kinda funny to see people here still treat relatively minor issues with such passion lol.
>>
>>4452607
I bought the softest cheap brush I could find in my local arts & crafts store and that seemed to do 90% of the trick. The remaining (including bits of leftover remjet etc) still have to be manually cleaned.
>>
>>4452643
Why Sony? I get it's better than Fuji but it's second worst of all lol. Even MFT would be better. Nikon, Panasonic, Sigma, Pentax, even Canon are better.
>>
>>4452646
That's a very interesting tip. So far the rare times when I shoot ECN-2 I just take it to a lab. Do you use ECN-2 chemistry or crossprocess?
>>
This could have been a nice comfy photo thread and look at what trip fags do to it. Why does it have to be like this?
>>
>>4452647
I must confess I haven't researched too much about this and maybe you're completely right. It just seems from the scans I've seen, Sony does a great job while having FF sensors available for relatively cheap (e.g., A7III). I'll definitely do more research once I decide to upgrade my scan setup, though.
>>
>>4452647
Dear god do you ever stop being a dishonest brandfag and take a photo? are you posting from jail? are you bedridden?

>>4452643
Fuji worms are not an issue with fuji, they are an issue with cheap raw developers. Try capture one, or darktable/ansel/rawtherapee with markestein 3-pass demosaicing. If you have to settle for lightroom the enhance feature deworms your images. You don't need to replace your camera over a sharpening artefact.

Also, for de-dusting get an anti-static brush or wet mount your negs (huge PITA and touchy about the glass used)

I always get cine film developed in ECN-2, but I send it a reputable lab that does dip and dunk.

Still, it's near impossible to remove 100% of the remjet. There's always at least some spec left. I can't wait until remjet is gone and AHU cine film becomes the norm.

>>4452654
I really like the workflow of NLP, but I'll try what you said, thanks for the tip.

Also, I had no idea anti-static brushes existed. I'll look into it now. Thanks.

>>
>>4452651
attention is what they crave. hide ignore and enjoy your day
>>
>>4452676
Man, I debated forever between the Nokton 1.5 II and the APO-Lanthar.

I'm now so glad I went with the Nokton. This thing is basically 99% of a Summilux, such an excellent lens.

After the M3, I realized I really like Leica rangefinders and at some point I will try to afford a M6 or even an MP, but I definitely don't feel the lust after Leica glass anymore after this one.

I'll gladly rock a M6/MP with all Voigtlander glass whenever I have the chance.
>>
>>4452689
My favourite lens I've ever owned is my 50 summicron but holy fuck the Voigtlander and Thypoch lines don't make me crave anything else from Leica, I'm more than happy to use them for the bulk of my lenses.

give the m5 a chance, it's the redheaded stepchild and i like it more than my m3/4-2 honestly. bonus is that it tends to be much cheaper lol. negative is that less parts and less people willing to repair if anything should go wrong. never used an M6 cause i aint a rich boy like that so i don't know how it compares to that one desu. but as you say ultimately the glass makes more difference than the body.

That looks great. When the opportunity arises I'll definitely consider the M5, same as I'm also currently considering the M4-P.

I just need a good rangefinder viewfinder that can get me good framelines for 28mm. If that's met, I can don't care for in-body metering. I'm fine currently metering with my Hedeco lightmeter.

that meter looks pretty slick, but pricey compared to many of the other voigtlaender clones and such. i got a reveni one only because i sniped it on ebay for like 15 bucks (i'm sure that seller was seething but he listed low no reserve). But i don't love it, it's small and works but even with all the buttons operation is clunky. looking to get a better one. or maybe a spot meter.
my camera's meter works but i have tto buy one of those battery adapter things.

>>4452718
Yeah, there's pretty much no option for meter unless you go super clunky. The Hedeco is the smallest and honestly it's pretty accurate. But it comes with a cost.

The Hedeco has a few ergonomics problems but the owner solved them all with free 3d printed files and so far I have no complaints.

I'd love a M6 with a working meter or even just a plain modern M-P, but that's a few years away.

>>4452719
Thanks. In the analog color world, Rerolled Vision3 is currently pretty much the standard nowadays. Twice as cheap as even Kodak Gold or Ultramax with over twice the performance.

I can't develop it myself, though, so I do everything but the development. Worth the extra cost considering the whole effort that goes taking off remjet. Once the AHU films hit market, I'll probably get my own kit and start cross developing in C-41, doesn't seem to lose that much compared to ECN-2.
>>
>>4452721
Fuck that's pretty. I have an M6 but I've been lusting after an M3 or an M2 lately.
>>
>>4452735
If you're shooting 50mm, nothing will ever compare to the experience of 50mm on the M3. That huge magnification viewfinder is really something else that in 20 years of experience I have'nt found anywhere else.

For shallower focal lengths, yeah, you can forget about it. I would personally classify the M3 as the best 50mm camera to has ever been manufactured.

I still want to shoot other shallower focal lengths, though.

Nigga actually spent fuckin Leica M3 money and ponied up for the newer better Nokton, went through all the bullshit of shooting cinema film and getting the Remjet backing off just to take snapshits of the backs of people's heads while he was on vacation and scan them in with a shitty Fuji camera designed to mimic the very Leica he is shooting, fuck sakes dude.

Masters of photography shot on the equipment you have, there was a time I would have blown 50 black dudes in an alleyway and given myself AIDS to put a roll through an M3, and you wasted it on uninteresting vacation snapshits I could have done on a fuckin cellphone.

You were here 15 years ago during some of the best times on /p/, we had PhotoshopR and Alex who taught people how to edit photos in LR and PS, so much knowledge was dropped here 15 years ago and you didn't learn anything. We had Alphon who would shred everyone's threads and then go back and show you how to be better and where you could have done differently. You were here during the golden years before it got invaded with Dollar Tree trolls.

I hope you at least had fun.

>>

I always work on the colors a little bit on NLP, but only small corrections to fix shadow/highlight/mids tints that the conversion may have picked up wrong.

I don't go through actual Lightroom or Photoshop controls for anything color or exposure related.

The colors on 50D (and 250D to some lesser extent) are just absolutely phenomenal 90% of the time with the auto-conversion.

I don't miss Portra one bit ever since I switched to cine films.

Owning a leica isn't a big deal. It's just a camera. Cameras are not awarded by the communist party. All cameras are luxury toys purchased with accumulated capital. Appreciate it, man. As I mentioned, self-scanning is still a skill I've only start to practice recently so I still have ways go to, which is honestly something that excites me. I do feel satisfaction out of the fact that you noticed improvements, thanks.

>This one is much better than the others.

I agree, that's my favorie of the bunch. I actually talked to that fisherman for over 30 minutes (while I took that pic) and he mentioned his late sister was a photographer and he mentioned he had a bunch of old analog cameras from here I should check out.

I went there just last, and while the stuff he had was great in theory (a Nikon F3 FM with 35, 50 and 105 + a Olympus OM-1 with a couple lenses), ultimately the stuff was in such bad condition it can only be used for parts, and also all the lenses had the most amount of fungus I've ever seen in any lenses.

Still a great story and social connection to make out of a day street shooting.

My scanning setup is a D800 with one of those Nikon slide scanning attachments on the end. 36mp gives me a ton of scalability and with a manual focus Nikkor 55/2.8 there's no fucking around with focus or anything just set it and forget it.

Might be something to think about.
>>
>>4458316
I mean, a D800 is a full-frame camera compared wih my Fuji XT-4 which not only is an APS-C camera, but it also suffers from the god-awful Fuji Worms algorithm or whatever the hell it is.

Whenever I have the chance I'll definitely swap to a full frame (DSLR or mirrorless) camera, that's for sure.

It's just I can't seem myself spending money on digital equipment right now when that budget could go towards film or other analog gear.

Just shoot RAW for scanning

>Fuji Worms algorithm
i don't have firsthand knowledge on this but i've heard that it's fuji raws going specifically through lightroom that can produce worm artifacts. apparently captureone lacks this issue

lightroom is on the same level of worms as c1 is nowadays. use irident xtransformer, dont use the native sharpening - photoshops smart sharpen works better
>>
>>4458325
The Fuji worms are strictly a sharpening thing
You can minimize significantly it by simply not using adobe default sharpening
It goes away entirely simply by using LR's enhance feature
It also isn't as present in other software sharpening defaults
>>4458331
If you're still getting worms then, you are doing something wrong, or it's not actually worms you are having an issue with

Picrel is Lightroom defaults vs LR enhance with defaults
This was also years ago things are better yet
I use to do Iridient to LR, but hasn't really been needed in many years

Ignore the haters op. This place is not really a place to share actual opinions and images.

I like pretty much all the shots. A lot of them do look a bit like just random holiday shots, but they remind me of when my family would look at old projector photos for birthdays.

One of my friends recently bought a Leica M6 after having the M11 for a bit. I wish I wasn't a broke and could afford stuff like that too.

Some very nice depth rendering from that Nokton. I have the 50/1.2 myself and it's excellent adapted to digital. If I were shooting with an M body, the 50/1.5 would definitely be a top choice.
>>

Thank you, appreciate it.

I just can't stand SLRs anymore (and I have an amazing Nikon FM2) after the Leica. I'm no fanboy but the rangefinder is so nice to use, and everything just operates so smoothly.

I have in my future plans to get a non-ttl M6 as well, and perhaps after that a new M-P.

I do miss shooting 35mm.

Also, I find it kinda funny how some people here are assuming I'm on vacation since these are literally just on my hometown. All these photos were taken 5-10 minutes from my flat. I just live here.

That Nokton is insane. I read many reviews but was still damn impressed by it.

I do have a kinda beaten up Summarit 50 1.5 for times when I want to go the extreme opposite direction, though I get myself going for the Nokton 95% of the time.

No hate is warranted for a film leica. Film leicas make sense.

If you are to shoot film, leicas are the only cameras for which replacement parts are still being made, repair techs are still being trained, and replacement lenses in the mount are still being produced (by 3rd parties even).

They're also actually better made than their more expensive digital shit.

You're still mald that you don't own a real Leica? LMAO

No but I did get a Leica M3 without the Red Dot Tax(tm)

i dont understand your salt because one, leicas are for the long haul and have a stock of parts that will be there long after the last gear/spring in a zorki snaps and the last soviet lens is unusably moldy, and two, they're not even that expensive and if you sold every piece of gear you do not genuinely need and have to force yourself to use, you could have one good film camera for life.
>>
>>4460459

That's a Canon 7s, I gave up on Soviet rangefinders. It's not salt, Leica M cameras are fuckin dope. The Canon 7 does the same thing and costs about 300 bucks and you don't need to spend out the ass for M-mount glass. It's got a huge bright VF that is on par with the M3 and I can change framelines for 35, 50 85/100 and 135 and it's parallax-correcting too. You can get away with 28 if you count the very edge of the VF. The meter on mine is also dead-nuts calibrated and works very well.

Soviet lenses are good though, as long as you find a good copy made during the Khruschev years. I will admit, with what I spent finding a good copy of each loens I probably could have just bought an M3 and been done with it. I went through 3 85/2's to find a good one and I still had to open it up to make it perfect. Most of the rare stuff I got from Fedka and that was where I found my good 85.

Most of the time they just need grease which isn't hard. I have a Leica IIIb system too with a full set of Leitz lenses, I went with the 7s because I could keep my fully-sorted KMZ set with lenses from 20 to 135 and just put a better camera body behind them. The IIIb is nice too and with the 35 and 50 I can fit it in my pocket.

Besides, why spend the money for a Leica when these exist, which are German, and have *very good* Schenider and Rodenstock lenses.

OP here. I'm really glad you're happy with your soviet options but what you said only made me even more glad I went for a Leica in the first place.
