>insert new film reels into my cam
>the insertion worked just fine, but I want to check if I can properly rewind it back to the stool or not
>*pull up the rewind knob and rewind it*
>"huh... why is there a resistance, there is also a and it doesn't seem to go back to its cartridge"
>suddenly there is a sound with my reel
>oh_fuck.png
>tried to manually removing the film reels with my own hand from the stool
>torn_film_reels.jpg
>"wtf is wrong with my camera"
>cut the torn film reels out and try to whole thing again
>ended up tearing the thing again
>WTF?!??!?!?.gif
>did I insert it in the wrong way?
>no
>is there a problem with rewind knob??
>no
>did I just buy a faulty camera with trash take-up spool???
>no
>an hour passed by
>suddenly realized that I just forgot to press the rewind button on the bottom of the camera before rewinding the film

yeah.

Everyone makes that mistake once.
>>
>>4457052
i have an old konica auto-reflex that only let me make the mistake once, the film actually held strong enough to grind down the brass gear linking the lever to the locking prongs inside the film chamber. it's such a stupid overengineered design and at the same time clever
>>
>>4457027
let me guess: it was not a nikon or a leica
because nikon is baby-proof and leica makes you kill yourself before committing such mistakes
>>
>>4457027
Not as bad as the opposite problem of inserting film, not noticing the rewind knob not spinning, and then wasting your time and energy shooting nothing until the advance keeps going to past your 40th frame
>>
>>4457117
I've done that and even went out of my way taking what I thought were cool pics off some cliff way off a road in the bush and pulled over somewhere near home to finish the roll when I noticed.

aren't you supposed to at least notice whether the rewind knob work or not when you advance the film?
>>
>>4457254

based

not based :(

>aren't you supposed to at least notice whether the rewind knob work or not when you advance the film?
Yes you are supposed to notice. I shoot a few rolls a year though and I was just looking at the shot counter seeing how many I had left because I wanted to use them up and it wasn't until I'd gone past 36 that I even thought to check that. It pissed me off a bit and there was somebody there to notice it to make it worse. At least I don't think I'll ever do it again.

>have 28-85 nikon, f2.8-4.5, pretty decent considering, one of the first ones with all the modern coatings
>go on a date with a supermodel
>go to piss, leave camera on the table
>return, lens doesn't work anymore
can't top that, she was probably satan incarnate

>devloping C41 for the first time
>done B&W before so only the chemistry and temp control is new otherwise it should be simple
>set everything up perfectly
>do a pre-rise as I normally do with B&W
>zone out for a second
>come back to reality when I realize I'm looking straight at undeveloped film inside of the tank
>put the lid back on really quickly like it was going to do anything
>finish developing trying to pretend nothing happened
>fogged and basically ruined most of 2 rolls
>they happened to be the ones from a vacation
still sad about it. won't do it again.

>First time taking out grampys old film camera, idk if it even works
>Take pictures at my summer job in uni, building awesome cabins for a rich family's compound with my boomer bro who's since passed away
>Not sure whether I've taken all the photos I can yet, or if the meter says I have one more
>Go to load the next shot
>Huh, feels like that was it after all
>Go to rewind following the manual I found online since I've never done it
>Hear the sound of my film being ripped perfectly in two as half winds into the canister, and the other half turns into pasta inside my camera
Made me so sad I put it on the shelf for 3 years. I got it going again though! Sadly I don't have pictures of my boomer bro or my summer building on the lake, but I'll always remember

Yeah it’s gear for idiots. If you’re a dumbass, stick with digital, you won’t hurt yourself. You should also wear a helmet when you drive your car.
