largeformat chads, monorail users specifically, what is your tripod setup? I have a chunky set of legs, and currently i've just been bolting it straight to the monorail which works, but as you can imagine is limiting in terms of any sort of adjustments, outside of fiddling with the legs. I guess, what heads have you found work for your big chunky cameras? Looking at one of picrel but i don't want to buy a dud.
>>44709912 way + level tripod is good for most things and is very stable with big camera. I prefer it over a geared head, honestly. Gitzo makes a pretty good looking one. The sinar ones are very good as well. Or you can get a geared head, but my only problem with them is they are heavy AF, and they put your camera up pretty high off the base of your tripod, so you will get less ridgity with them than a low profile 2 way tripod head. I have a arca swiss cube. That leofoto looks like it would be pretty wobbly with > 200mm - 300mm bellows extension.
>>44709942way as in rotate and up/down tilt? I see those advertised as “monopod heads” but I suppose that would work. And really I don’t need the third rotation. I’ll have to look into it. The leofoto seems decently priced and ok reviewed so it’s still a contender for me>I have a arca cubeBruh.
>>4471004Correct. You can get something with a better weight limit for the same money if the head is simpler. The main advantage with geared head is that you can easily level horizon. You only need to get your camera framed up roughly because you can use shift and rise to precisely frame your subject with a view camera.
>>4471018Not really related to tripods but you seem like one of the 4x5 chads I was looking for, is there like a “90 degree” hood or something for when the camera is placed low? Crowching and kneeling down to focus is a big pain in the ass for those positions lol
>>4471050there is Sinar bino reflex (I really like to use it) but other brands I think also have something similar
>>4470991Bolting it directly to the tripod is fine but you will have too much fiddling with legs to set it properly on uneven ground. I have sinar 2-way and Gitzo G1507M 3-way (both are fine and very practical)and Manfrotto 405 3-way gear head (this one is slightly heavy but allows precise adjustment)
and there is a China copy of Sinar 2-way headpeople say it is very good
>>4471100>it’s just my EDC walkabout camera no biggie
>>4470994hmm...did you put sinar copal shutter into wrong position?
>>4471107I was playing with a 35mm film back, so I just had it back there because I could. Lol
Graphic View I here, I used a Manfrotto 3xxx the big fucker I can't remember the model number it has a Slik ball head and the hexagon mount plate, the model number is under the padding on the legs, I padded them to make it easier on my shoulder to carry it like a rifle. My monorail is full movement, tilt+swing and rise+fall so I have no real problems there with movements.
>>4470991Sturdy but portable aluminum tripod + big ball head cause I had em before. (Benro Travel Angel and Benro #2 ball head which I got believing was the right one for that tripod, turned out it was bigger and overkill for anything but large format. Happy mistake. Those were relatively cheap when got em.)
>>4471320You manage ok with a ball with such a big camera? Seems like it would be imprecise, ball heads are bad enough with my EOSR. Maybe I’ve just never used a good one.
>>4471364Do not get a ball head with an LF camera.
>>4471364>>4471365That ball head moves very smoothly with adjustable friction. Not ideal but worked good enough for hobbyist me. If you do large format for living you should get a big ass large format studio tripod for your studio.
>>4471423Ive only ever used shitty ballheads, and great other heads, so maybe I'm biased. If you're working in a studio you get a stripper pole for your camera.
>>4471425I don't need thisI truly don'thowever…
>>4471442Exactly how I feel about it. Tripods are enough, but they really get in the way a lot. Those camera stands are really expensive and hard to ship, so it is a bit easier to deny myself the luxury of owning one.
>>4471425Bro I’ve never even seen something like that it looks insane. Some kind of industrial equipment? I want one lol. Plenty unused space in my basement
>>4471497It's called a cambo UST camera stand. Cambo makes some of the best camera stands of this nature. They're made for studio photography.I found one on ebay for 1400 bucks that comes with an 8x10 camera attached to it. Local shipping only, but I'm in the same state. Maybe he will do me a solid. The 8x10 camera is probably worth about 800ish bucks, so I could have a really good deal on my hands.
>>4471499Plaubel is better
>>4471543Oh cool, a camera stand expert! From your personal experience using both what makes the plaubel better?
>>4471543and it can be fount for a good price on kleinanzeigen.de
>>4471547>what makes the plaubel better?you can't compare Holandeze crap with German technology
>>4471552The one in your picture looks like it has way less movements and is a much simpler design. I mean a tray is pretty freaking dope, but I think another mounting point is probably better.
>>4471425Shitty tripod head is shitty be it ball, tilt or whateverhead. Get a good quality one of the type you prefer which is rated about 2x the weight you intend to put on it, and it will do the job.>>4471425Yes, that's the studio camera stand. (I admit I did not remember the correct term.)
>>4471543and there is also Swiss FOBA

>>4471563Holy fuck it’s enormous. I want it harder.
