Criticism pleasePictures aren't turning out as I'd imagined, how differently would you have shot/composed/edited this scene?Shooting wide open sure didn't help but it was dusk and I wanted to make sure I could freeze the train in motionUtter /beg/ so I wouldn't even know what I don't know
>>4472754haha get baited it's a D800
>>4472758>how differently would you have shot/composed/edited this scene?I wouldn't have shot this meaningless trash in the first place. >i need to freeze ze trainwhy? why did you feel the need to freeze the train? why wouldn't you keep it motion blurred? are you retarded? are you trying to produce clinical images?why the fuck did you feel this scene was worth taking a photo of? it's meaningless piss and you wasted electrons for this
>>4472758Try standing on the tracks for a more dynamic pov>>4472778A well executed clinical photo is better than a nophoto.
>>4472758Half of everything is luck. A better time of day coinciding with a train pass. A clear sky to accentuate the reflection on the water. There are also things that are out of your control, e.g. the wall being too high and covering up a large portion of the train, the cement truck and runners in the photograph who distract. I tried pulling in attention to the train cockpit, but you can see how the runner and truck distract from it. I would re-visit the location and try to snipe out a view point more to the right to try and shoot a more "oncoming" viewpoint of a train—this is the sort of in-situ solution you must consider when you get to a photoshoot site and realize, for example, that the wall is too big and will cover up the subject (in this case, the train). The photo you provided is more of a clinical, historical snapshot of a moment in time at a regular ol' place. No singular focus, horizon line is right down the middle, not quite symmetrical enough to stand on its own. No foreground-to-background differentiation, the focus here is just "look, a view of outside," like it might as well just be the view from an office window. You must think of something, and try your best to accentuate it and give it a soul, so to speak
>>4472758its nice and sharpm, the symmetry in the reflection is always cool but it looks a bit off for some reason.the river provides natural leading lines to draw your eye toward the centre of the image but your subject (the front carriage) is off to the right.it feels very gray and the ligthing is pretty meh so come back and retry at a different time.there is a lot of negative space in the image which some people like but i think this just isnt the picture for it.try playing around with crop and grid lines turned on and see what different framing you can get from it, maybe different aspect ratios will help.it wont be the best picture but it should be enlightening.Personally, its a cool idea for a picture but like you said what you're imagining isn't what comes out when you capture the photons, keep practicing and you'll get there, i find cropping pics really helps you see framing that is already there but you couldn't see at the moment in time
another crop i tried>>4472791i'm not >>4472790 but interesting how we came to similar ideas. And don't listen to those guys calling your stuff slop or whatever they're not constructive so why would you even care what they think
>>4472793Nice hahah. I'm the anon who cropped the one similar to yours. I didn't even consider leading lines (from the river/bayou here) as a form of composition. Thanks! Always learning something new
>>4472793Waaaah it's so fucking blue! Make it stop!

>>4472641>>4472645>>4472657>>4472784>>4472811Comfy
>>4472816>Maybe a teeny bit overexposed?Well, I didn't have a graduated filter with me so I prioritized exposure of the sands. Sometimes you just have to blow out the less important details if you can't control them, but I did try to recover as much as I could.
>>4472834I disagree with that anon, it is exposed perfectly well
>>4472798this looks about right
>>4472839Very nice. I would have wanted the skirt to be fully blacked out but it’s not bad. How did you light this?
>>4472870Thanks! I tried to edit it fully black but couldn't manage to do so. And just natural light on a cloudy day and editing, anon.
>>4472745Sound's like a (you) problem.
Here's one from the gardens I didn't intentionally overcook.Kind of enjoying laying off the greens and leaning into the cooler light of the afternoon.
>>4472795lol, doesn't look like i touched the colours or exposure in darktable, was only focussing on the cropping/framing. wasn't not focussing on the colourscape/palette either. But since we're talking about it, I actually think the green of the verge is really strong and distracting
>>4472839sweet lighting. i like how a side of the skirt is lit and there are some faint highlights here and there, making it an almost-silhouette. framing feels a bit awkward, like it should have been either wider to get the whole skirt or tighter to center the contrast >>4472883neat
>>4472626pleasant
>>4472592I don't think this is "shit" its actually really nice, but it doesn't feeel like a photo, it feels more like a background to something

>>4472972That is her natural skin tone.
>>4472966Would have been great if her right eye was sharp as well. The others are too intimate; too little questions. Nice style though
>>4472990Can you expand on "too little questions"? I'd like to know more of your thoughts.Focus is a long and ongoing problem due to the wavelength shift, for which I compensate, the narrow DoF of 4x5, and the models never staying still. I've got some tests in the pipeline to dev and I hope I can fix it soon.
Is it fall where you guys are?
>>4473117It's barely starting here in France, there isn't really any colour yet but I'm looking forward to it
>>4473117Damn that's stunning anon. Wish it got that nice here
>>4473117It is. Nice shot. Realy nice colours. I may have gone for a bit more rail instead of the sky, if I was you. Do you have more than one version of this?
>>4473022A good story, as a good photograph should be, does never reveal itself too quickly. It's like a well composed piece of music. It gets your attention, leads you somewhere, maybe elsewhere, maybe gets back, and then reveals itself. You have to take a small journey to understand it, maybe take several turns to it. If it is too blunt it may loses its point. Except for Punk. And I wish I could specificaly point out, what the bluntness is (for a lack of a better word, I don't mean it harshly), that I felt in those two photos, but I can not really bring it into words. It feels like manipulation, but manipulation is subtle. All the best for your future work.
bucketlist check. what a bizarre place. wish i could have gone inside but its now all locked up and i guess not really safe anymore
>>4473269What is your subject>>4473117Very nice, good color and leading lines>>4472967Excellent

rate and hate. I don't know how to edit photos.
>>4473339a bunch of nothing>>4473341I really hate this, people who want this kind of photo are the same who have a sign that says, live laugh love, in their house not your fault anon, hope the clients paid well at least

>>4473347full of cow-ards
>>4473344>pukingknight.jpg>>4473347now you're talking, pretty fun photo, could invent some bs about the 3 horizontal layers in the background etcNot amazing but fun, enjoyed it
>>4473345I offered a free shoot to expand my business but they gave me 200 bucks which will help fund my gear debt>>4473350kek definitely not the content that's usually posted here
>>4473348oh, I get it lol.>>4473350thank you, anon.
I never shoot food, but there's a competition going on here so I had to
>>4473416It looks like snot. You should think about adding artificial light.
>>4473301>planesI tried photographing some planes last night at sunset. Photographing a very small fast-moving object was harder than I thought it'd be.
>>4473424fantastic
I'm upset his mustache is wonky. Also, holy shit minature photography is demanding when you don't have controlled conditions. Lighting was fair but not great, and I was pushing super high ISOs just to get more than a millimeter in focus. Bokeh whoring was the only way to keep ISO down.
