any fellow third world photography aficionados? how do you deal with the fear of your gear getting stolen? what kind of precautions do you take?
>>4473689I grew up in the third world and lived in ghettos here in the U.S. before moving into much safer areas. The key to staying safe is to spot the danger looongg before it gets close. Over time you can figure out who is a potential risk, and who is just a normal/boring person.
>>4473691>spot the danger looongg before it gets closeany practical tips? I get the "stay away from dark an lonely streets at night" and "stay away from "shady looking people"
>>4473689You need to develop a dark aura
My first photography teacher told me that if I couldn't at least photograph my surroundings, I wouldn't be able to photograph places where I'm not "welcome."I grew up and live in a pretty rough place in Mexico, and I have to tell you, the advice that teacher gave me was true. Start by photographing your family, your neighbors, the dogs in your neighborhood, and little by little you'll gain confidence. You'll also learn to anticipate their reactions. You'll know when someone doesn't want to be photographed without asking, you'll know when you're in danger, you'll know when it's safe, you'll be able to differentiate the friend from the villain, and all that practice in your surroundings will come in handy anywhere you are, from the lobby of an expensive hotel to a neighborhood that's poorer and more dangerous than the one you live in.So just go and ask your neighbors to let you take a picture. If they say no, try again next month, and so on.That teacher's name is Jesus Villaseca; He was also born and raised in a tough neighborhood so he knows what he's talking about. This photo was taken at the Altar of Santa Muerte in Tepito, Mexico.
I survived Colombia with my Fuji
>>4473724>Fujidid I make a mistake going for the Sony A7IV over the Fuji X-T5?
>>4473732nobody zooms in far enough to see that xtrans is blurrier or sees your sd card to know how often the focus missesswitch back if you want nothing external will changeits just you, and you getting poorer for no reason every time you do thisswitching between similarly sized cameras is always pointless
>>4473689Everyone on /p/ is a third worlder because they think spending a few grand on camera gear is impossible to afford
>>4473732Probably not. Sony makes top of the line products and has a lot more support for its system both in terms of hardware/accessoires and on the software side. I'm sure coming from Sony a Fuji will feel very clunky and outdated
>>4473732Sorry anon. I hope you enjoy editing every image you take from now on.
>>4473689>any fellow third world photography aficionados?shot for a publication in a black neighborhood in mississippi, so yes>how do you deal with the fear of your gear getting stolen?it was all insured. a black guy with a gun asked to see my camera and casually walked away. said thanks lil nigga. bid him good day, took a picture of him with my cellphone once we had a little distance. filed police report, insurance claim and got a new camera soon after.>what kind of precautions do you take?insurance and a fixer. i can't stress how much having both will help when shooting in prominently black neighborhoods
>>4473693listen to your gutand don’t fucking talk to anyone for any reason
>>4473689Be massiv cunt
Why would a hobbyist take expensive pro level camera to area where is fear of your gear getting stolen? Just buy a cheap used. Pictures will be as good.
>>4473732NoYou will simply escape jpeg shooting retardation earlier. No more playing with camera settings outside of the exposure triangle for you. No DR200/400/800 toggling in your future. No fiddling with dials meant to slow you down and make you miss shots if not larping as a 50 year old zone focusing leica user. Just set it to raw, exp comp -1 and shoot.>>4473855Shooting raw is the norm for photographers. It’s faster when it matters and takes less than 2 minutes per image. Only fujifags think its scary because they spam snapshits of backs of heads winogrand style and xtrans raws make computers lag.
>>4473895i would have shot him desu
>>4473895>insurancemight be worth checking this out, how much of the original price can I expect to pay for let's say robbery and accidental damage?
so here listen, basically there is nothing that interesting at least to me in this cursed place that feels worthy of dropping 1k usd or even half of that or even 200 usd on a second hand shitter from ebay, to just take a picture of it, that's just it, I spent so much time thinking about this trying to figure out what would be a good camera to buy, but after wasting so much time looking for shit on ebay I decided to keep taking snapshits with a compact camera, whats out there worthy of photographing ? at least on this city not a lot, a couple of buildings, some streets and old houses that are getting replaced with shitty shoebox apartment buildings, nature sure but its out of the city and I am not some retired old fuck that can just spent the whole day chasing birds with a 300mm lens and a tripod. >>4473724see this guy right here, he probably spent the whole trip taking pictures of sharty old colonial towns or some poor bastard selling souvernirs, I have seen these types, they even carry TWO fujis to document their trip to some boring shithole, maybe that's interesting for you as a first worlder but I can't be interested in that when that's part of our daily life.
>>4473895>and a fixerYou throw hyposulphite at thugs?
>>4473732No, in fact you picked the less bad one of two meme scameras. Fuji is easily the worst camera brand in the market.
