Shot on a Bessa R2M with the 35mm f/2 Ultron and a mix of Fuji 100, Provia 100, and Portra 400.Developed at various labs in Tokyo and Osaka, scanned by myself.
I feel like this is the best /p/ thread of the year. Timeless, amazing photos. Darumas and BIC Camera are my favourites
>>4490892Sorry, it was Yodobashi Camera instead
>>4490881Really like the composition on this one.Loveley set OP, I can tell you really enjoyed yourself, such a wide breadth of pictures mate.
>>4490843Nice shots but you dont need to downscale so hard. You get 4mb and most of these are only 150~kb. Would love to see some more of the detail in these.
>>4490914>I want to pass your pics as my own OP, please ignore the rules furtherTranslated by Bing!
>>4490923>>4490779Everyone hates you
Comfy, thanks for sharing.
>>4490892>>4490893Thanks anon, Katsuoji was such a nice place to visit despite the influx of tourists. I also spent way too much time visiting every BIC and Yodabashi camera I could find to try and look for Superia Premium but with no luck. All I could get was Fuji 100.
>>4490903Had a tough time trying to compose and focus quick shots with a manual rangefinder especially since I couldn't frame up anything perfectly due to wearing glasses. Seeing the low-res previews provided by the labs in Japan I was pretty disappointed with the composition of my photos as I'm still getting used to 35mm but I used it as a learning experience and I'm pleased with the final results after coming home and scanning everything myself.
>>4490850I think this is my favorite of the set. The busyness of the shot works with the overall narrative, rather than against it as it does sometimes in the rest of the images. The old man, not many years left in him is reading a book, surrounded by paintings. All this old media, which in time will be completely forgotten, as he too will be, as the world moves on, increasingly digitized. It's an aesthetic shot, perhaps not the most visually impressive as a few of the other ones at face value, but paired with its context and subject matter, it is the strongest, imo.
>>4490971>a fuckton of hot airit's an old fag trying to sell wall art.
>>4491009Art is whatever you make it out to be.
why did I know it was going to be a good thread when i saw it was a bessa and not a leica
>>4491009low iq cope
Damn anon, these are all pretty great. I'd say my least-favorite is >>4490884 and my favorite is >>4490888. The composition of the trees, sky and statue is on point. Nice trips, too.Which ones do you like the least and most out of all of these?
>>4491088Thank you anon, much appreciated. I think my least favorite in terms of not being necessarily interesting would be >>4490884 or >>4490887The one I wish I had better composition of, probably by having a 50mm is >>4490860. Don't like how much of the scene the buildings take up. My favorite of the set as of now is probably >>4490843, absolutely love the colors of Provia 100.
>photos of nothing>:(>photos of nothing,japan>:O
>>4490844>>4490846>>4490849>>4490857>>4490873>>4490883>>4490888OP you did a wonderful job on your photos and I'm very jealous of your trip to japan
>>4491126Thanks anon, it was a very fun trip .
slide film aaaaaaaaaaaaa>provia, velviabased based based
>>4491124this but unironically
Really nice set OP. The photos from my visit were attempted to have the feel that these do but you really nailed it. This one >>4490857 is my favorite. The composition really does something for me
>>4491339Thank you anon, feel free to share some of your photos here! Some other people's threads from earlier this year really helped me with inspiration for mine.
Oh shit, I just remembered what >>4490888 reminds me of and why I like it so much.
>>4491417It was my first thought too. I almost commented on it but decided to beat off instead, I keep a tight schedule.
My wish for /p/ is for you to throw away every single photo of people's backs, they are not photos, they're cursed objects that should be ground up and tossed into a volcano for good measure. They're so offensive to me now, I hate seeing them. Happy new year all
Great photos OP. Film is nice to vibe and enjoying the composition.>>4490868>PleaseIt's interesting the role politeness seems to play there. No fence/cage stopping you like the pedestrian overpasses here, just a sign basically asking you to be respectful of society.
>>4490843Is it mostly the lens that creates that rich colour to black look?
>>4491564The lens does have some nice contrast to it but I think it's mostly thanks to the film stock and lighting.
>>4491413Sure I'll drop a few of my favorites in attempt to not taint your thread
>>4491614
>>4491615
>>4491616
>>4491615>>4491616Good stuff anon, really like these two.
>>4491647Cheers. I think it's about time i tried getting into film photography
>>4490843I bet this lens would be amazing in the open sea on the middle of the pacific because the ocean is really dark blue therehttps://youtu.be/PX5umu8ymeE?si=5XPQ9a6QrDATmu8Q
I live in Japan, am long out of the honeymoon phase and find most Japan pictures pretty boring, but I do like yours.
>>4492075Where did you move from, gaijin? I was supposed to visit in April but started a new gig so should wait. The plan is to pick up a Grand Seiko while I'm there, then hit up some camera stores.
Film photographers make me sad, Its clear you are very skilled and good at composition and lighting too. But the horrendous quality and terrible DR of that provia slide is killin me. Especially the terrible compression. Jagged power lines are killing me.My philosophy is to always have more than you can chew and remove it in post. Art is ofc all about framing and removing distractions. That crop of mt fuji and the shrine destroyed by three white haired karens makes me seethe, but i assume it was a unavoidable error. But hey if you are happy, who am i to judge. We all have our preferences
>>4492182>The plan is to pick up a Grand Seiko while I'm thereBased. Which one are you getting? I'm holding off until I can justify/afford buying the SBGA413 before getting my first GS.
>>4492182Germany. Been here for a decade or so now. It's nice, but you also get used to it and I don't find it as exciting to shoot anymore. For me, it's trips back to Europe where I find every second building fascinating now.I don't know about other brands, but Sony's are way cheaper here than abroad. The downside is that the firmware is only available in Japanese, but you can use some tool from GitHub to unlock English.
When I was in Japan last year the price difference of electronics wasn't that much different, though I wasn't really looking hard (mostly bic camera and random stores) Food and drink was cheap though
>>4492182>>4492290>>4492293Samefag harder ambush
As usual, beautiful set. You are a consistent great photographer. My preference goes to the ones with people in it.>>4490843Does your film make everything red, or did you happen to be in luck ?>>4490844You can almost feel the delicate touch.>>4490850France mentioned.
>>4490852Nice composition, I love the impression of natural submersion over the signs of human activity. >>4490855This one is a time capsule from the nineties.>>4490867This one is perfect. The clothes, the colours, the composition.
>>4492362Meds.
>also be in Japan roughly the same time>pics mog all my soulless amateur stuffFUCK. beautiful pics btw
I went into this trip with Greg Girard's "JAL 76 88" in mind for inspiration, but I also discovered Fred Herzog's "Modern Color" before I left for my trip and must have subconsciously drawn inspiration from that more so than Girard. >>4492365Thank you anon, much appreciated!I think I got lucky with the lighting that particular day, and paired with Fuji Provia 100 made for some super saturated colours. >>4492366>This one is perfect. The clothes, the colours, the composition.I keep coming back to this photo more than any other one I've taken and really do think it might be my favorite. >>4492575There's no such thing as professional whatever the fuck this photography is called, I'm as much an amateur as you are anon. Feel free to post your Japan pics here, would love to see them.
I don't spend any time on /p/ cause I don't like sharing my photos with anyone, but I recently came back from a vacation, during which I felt very satisfied, photographically. I want to get that feeling again in real life, but I'm simply not that great of a photographer. How do I get over the emptiness I feel?
>>4491124i don't know at what kind of a mental state you need to glaze japan like this, weebs are just pathetic.
>>4493072do whatever gives you that satisfaction and disregard what anyone else thinks
>>4490843Nice picsI like taking pics in asian countries too. Feels good bring out expensive girl without the fear of someone robing you.
>>4493333
>>4493334
>>4492290You know, I've tried really hard to avoid choosing a favourite... at that price point I think the decision has to happen on-wrist. I want the whole experience of being sold one in person.>>4492293I'll only be looking at vintage Nikon gear while I'm there, I'm all set as far as modern stuff goes.
Thanks for the inspo, OP. I am in Tokyo right now. I’m not confident enough to shoot film yet, but I brought my 6D + 50mm to shoot with. Pic rel, took it the other day.
>>4493700soulless compared to film im afraid. in 2026 you MUST shoot film, digital has been ai-sloppified
>>4493701I agree with you, both ironically and unironically. And another pic - An exercise in under exposure. I wanted to emphasize the darkness of the scene.
>>4493707>An exercise in under exposureah stop with this pretentious shit bud
>>4493700>>4493707Good stuff anon, excited to see what you come up with. My first few trips to Japan I shot on digital (Canon 1300D + 55-250mm) and had a really fun time being able to have the flexibility of a digital sensor. Film is way more constrictive, especially depending on the camera, but is rewarding in its own way. >pic relatedDigital photo I took in 2018 and a film pic I took in 2025 while on a bus in Kyoto and got reminded of the original photo I took
>>4490883>>4490885>>4490952>>4491568My favorites. I find water so fascinating and mesmerizing to look at
>>4493712Sorry, it’s an act lol I meant to convey “I fucked up exposure and called art”. I actually like the look though so going to try it with intent now.>>4493713Thanks, and wow, love the colors in the film pic. I don’t know shit about film, but I see its value here.Pic rel - missed focus, but successful composition, in my opinion
>>4493722god japan is lame lol. wow a garbage bin and some flowers. ebin
>>4493728>Garbage bin: :|>Garbage bin, Japan: :OThe meme repeats itself ad infinitum
>>4493728I mean, fair assessment. What can I shoot here that isn’t meme? Or is that something only I can decide in the moment? Not trying to be intentionally dense, I appreciate the feedback.
>>4493809Martin Parr did Japan photos without them being meme Japan photos >rip king
>>4493809More a critique on the board and general public that you can take the most mundane photos but if you do it in Japan they get stiff as a tent pole.Travel snapshits are fine.
>>4492366Its not a time capsule its Osawa camera in Ebisu, the best film developers in all of Japan. They still use a Fuji SP3000 to scan pic rel
bonus points if anyone recognizes this
>>4490843it's very nice. looks 1960ish. good retro coloration.also explain picrel
>>4490914dont you dig the retro'esque of it?
>>4494164its obviously coffee
>>4494101>Osawa camera in Ebisu, the best film developers in all of Japan. That's a weird way to spell Naniwa Camera in Shinsaibashi
>>4494200>Naniwa Camera>chain store >bestlmao
Very nice OP, make all mine from my November trip look like dogshit
>>4494202Everyone's their own worst critic, I'm sure your photos turned out great. Did you shoot on film or digital?
>>4494202NTA, but literally me nonetheless. I'll post some of the shots I somewhat liked
